I'm thinking about getting CovenantEyes and an accountability partner. My addiction is more of a sexual addiction than a porn addiction, but there are occasions every now and then where pornography becomes involved. I do think that having an accountability partner, as well as a lot of the other features on CovenantEyes would help. However, I do remember watching a video series by Sensus Fidelium in which a priest recommends against having an accountability partner and advises prayer, fasting, and practicing virtue instead. I did to a certain degree like that suggestion for a number of reasons, but now I'm seriously considering this.

    Do it!

I honestly think that if a priest was advising against it he may not have fully understood what he was saying. There are pop up ads or similar things that come up on all sorts of sites even when you are not looking at bad material or not intending to go to them.

There is nothing wrong with using a technological aid to help you. The priests on Sensus Fidelium are good, but they are not perfect. Yes, prayer and fasting, etc. is important, but you need to use all available tools at your disposal to combat this. I think if accidental images are not tempting you it will help a lot.

Thank you, now all I need to do is find an accountability partner.

Just to clarify. I realize now I was confused when I read your first post initially. I thought you were talking about Covenant Eyes and that was the "accountability partner". I had never heard that term before and am not familiar with it. My advice was mainly to use a filter for your computer. Be careful if using someone else as an accountability partner that you don't lead them into sin by disclosing things to them. As I'm not sure of the term and exactly what it entails I might be inclined to agree with the Sensus Fidelium priest. Though it might be fruitful to try. A priest in confession might be kind of an accountability partner. Sorry for the confusion RW.

We bought CovenantEyes as a protection on our own home computer when our younger boys reached their early teens. If fact, it still is protecting me! Good idea!

You can certainly use purchased software to do this or you can also try using a simple, free DNS entry to redirect your internet traffic through a server that will filter it out for free. This will work on most any device. Of course this is an honor system meaning you can get around it if you are determined by changing it back but it won't allow someone to browse for inappropriate images etc without willfully going through the process to change it. It may just be enough to help change that habit.

It is what I have been using for my home and families phones. Read through this article, it explains it pretty well.

As far as an accountability partner goes I think that if that is what it takes to break the cycle it is a step in the right direction. These days, many people have been through this too so I think it is possible to not endanger others when reaching out for help, in fact it may help them to remember their own struggle by being there for others and passing on their own experiences.
God gave us these desires for good and He allows us the choice in how we use them. You will of course be tested, when you are try to remember that it is part of being the man God wishes for you to be to deny yourself things which do not glorify Him and you must rely on Him for this. He will give you the Grace you need if you ask Him.
