I’m currently building a tiny camper to pull behind my Honda Silverwing 600cc maxi scooter motorcycle. Instead of building a foamy camper I recently decided to simply mount a root top tent to the small motorcycle trailer frame I’ve already modified. I wanted to find a used hard shell roof top tent for this purpose. Even used, unfortunately, these are out of my price range. (I actually have some money to spend because a close friend just paid me for building his “van life” van from a former Amazon delivery van.) I’ve sent inquiries to several Facebook Marketplace ads now but haven’t got anywhere. (I don’t know why users post these ads then never respond to inquiries.) I responded to one last night. The seller even mentioned they were willing to deliver it. Since I’m up to my elbows in this van life build, I don’t have the time to travel to pick one up. The seller responded so I looked at her Facebook profile. (I don’t buy stuff from people who have an obvious progressive position on their Facebook profile.) The seller said they were a traditional minded Catholic right on the top of their profile and I mentioned to them I appreciated that in my communications with them. They responded that they thought they recognized my name from our MOG forum! They are also a frequent member here! (They’re free to comment if they like here!) So I’ll be buying a roof top tent for my project from a fellow MOGer!
Indeed! I’ve learned not to “look for signs.” But I’ve also been wondering if I was going to be wasting money on a roof top tent for this purpose and whether I should even be buying one. Then out of the blue, my friend, a fellow devout Catholic who I met while he was also volunteering for a year with the Marian Missionaries of Divine Mercy, paid me (handsomely) for building his van into an RV, even though I told him repeatedly not to. He said he specifically wanted me to spend it on something for myself I wouldn’t otherwise buy. Now I find a roof top tent at a price I can afford - from a fellow MOG member! I don’t look for signs, but I have learned to recognize signal graces. This is definitely a signal grace.
Sorry that it didn't work out Brian, but yes, very nice to connect with a fellow MOG member. I sent you a message.
No problem at all! Another one became available immediately and I am going to see it Sunday. My original plan was always for a hard shell roof top tent but I couldn’t afford any decent used ones. The seller came down on the one I’m looking at to a decent price we could agree on. It’s a Columbus, made by an Italian company called AutoHome. Apparently they invented the hard shell roof top tent in the 1950s and they’re highly regarded. Regardless, I still think it’s miraculous that I crossed paths with a fellow MOG member via a Facebook Marketplace ad! Looking forward to meeting in person some day!
