    Thank you. These posts are what this forum--all of us--truly needs. Wisdom and encouragement to fill our tanks back up with Christ and keep on going as we pick up our crosses and follow Him.

    I am not at all convinced by this Elon Musk. I expressed misgivings some time ago and the more I read about him, the less I like him. He got no votes, but he appears to be acting like he won the presidency. Mr Trump would do well to ditch him.

    I would not waste much time following the narrative about anything out there.
    it is all so sad.

    Smoke and mirrors.

    I feel there are great diversions going on. On all sides . . .just wait and see. Persevere, patience. Focus on Jesus.

    I read that Trump seems to be siding with Musk and against the wishes of the people who have elected him. He is reported as saying that he was always in favour of H-1B visas, although he is also apparently on record for saying that he was against them.

    This seems ominous. I'm beginning to worry that we are all being played. A Tweedlie-dum that was so bad that people were delighted to vote massively to reject him, might only have been replaced by Tweedlie-dee.

    Put not your trust in princes.

    This is attributed to Musk (obscenity warning):

    It’s no accident that Padraig bumped this thread. It brought me back to the reading from St. Paul. I suppose at the time I posted it was about the situation in the world. But now as my wife and I experience the cross of the accident it speaks very personally to me and encourages me. I know everyone on the forum has personal crosses. I pray that we all see them as the means to our salvation. That we not just accept the cross but with the spirit of Christ within us we can kiss and venerate our crosses. Peace

    Brothers and sisters:
    We hold this treasure in earthen vessels,
    that the surpassing power may be of God and not from us.
    We are afflicted in every way, but not constrained;
    perplexed, but not driven to despair;
    persecuted, but not abandoned;
    struck down, but not destroyed;
    always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus,
    so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our body.
    For we who live are constantly being given up to death
    for the sake of Jesus,
    so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

    So death is at work in us, but life in you.
    Since, then, we have the same spirit of faith,
    according to what is written, I believed, therefore I spoke,
    we too believe and therefore speak,
    knowing that the one who raised the Lord Jesus
    will raise us also with Jesus
    and place us with you in his presence.
    Everything indeed is for you,
    so that the grace bestowed in abundance on more and more people
    may cause the thanksgiving to overflow for the glory of God.

    I agree, this is really concerning. Musk seems to have infiltrated Trump's inner circle, and unfortunately Trump's weakness is that he can be swayed. Musk's biggest fear is that he will lose his cheap labor. These foreigners are hired by companies like Tesla and paid much less than the American employees that they replaced, many working up to 80 hours a week. They basically become indentured servants and this is exactly why Musk will die on this hill, it's all about money. Elon really showed his true colors over on X this week. His retaliation against anyone who dared to speak out against the H-1B visas was pretty pathetic. He lashed out, calling American workers lazy and retarded, igniting fury among MAGA supporters. Trump needs keep his campaign promise of bringing industry and jobs back to this country. Americans should not be cast aside in favor of cheap foreign labor. I hope Donald Trump sees to it that Musk stays in his lane, and refrains from using his social media platform as a weapon against those who disagree with him. No one voted for Elon Musk.

    This post reminded me of Fulton Sheen's wonderful autobiography, 'Treasure in Clay'. I am sure he did not intend it that way but it is clear reading between the lines that the man was a saint. He tells of many mystical and miraculous events in his life; he was a wonderful story teller.

    What he did not write about was his sufferings which seem to have been truly awful in so many ways.At one point he said that no one would ever know how much he suffered. It's so strange he did so very,very much for Our Holy Mother the Church and for America the country he loved. He was such a patriot. But although the ordinary people very much appreciated him many of the rich and powerful in the Church and the World did not. He had so many enemies.

    Of course he had his faults as we all do, but these cause me to love him all the more, not less.

    'It is not so much what people suffer that makes the world mysterious; it is rather how much they miss when they suffer. They seem to forget that even as children they made obstacles in their games in order to have something to overcome.'

    Fulton Sheen

    If Trump betrays his supporters over this, his party will be hammered in the Mid-Terms. Undoing many of his gains and giving the Democrats a life-line. All for the benefit of an unelected foreign opportunist. If Trump is that easily swayed, he is a false hope.

    Amen. This is actually forum favorite (I believe) Prof Jeffrey Sachs from a longer interview he gave at Cambridge.

    Unfortunately President Trump keeps sending mixed signals.

    He posts this on social media while surrounding himself with neocons, extreme zionists and warmongers (yes there are a few exceptions).

    But hope springs eternal.

    Time will tell.

    What about that old saying about it best to have your enemies urinating out of the tent...?

    He'll still be the man with the final say. If he puts the squeeze on Netanyahu, it'll be more awkward for the neo-cons and zionists within his administration to make a scene than if they were outside it. They would either have to share some responsibility or resign. If the latter, they'll be admitting they were wrong to join Trump and I think pride is a big part of their make-up.
