One of the wonderful things about reading the lives of the saints is that we get such a birds eye view of their lives and growth day by day. In our own lives things can seem so plodding , ordinary and day by day. But for the saints too that was how it was. Day by day, step by step. Perhaps that is one of the reasons St Therese is so appealing, step by step ordinary and plodding. No great miracles and wonders. Pure ordinary. This gives great hope.
I remember when he died over 30 priests came to celebrate his funeral Mass including a representative from the Bishop and he was buired in the priest's plot in the graveyard. It was extraordinary. He was a devoted Irish speaker so a teacher from his school organised his tombstone in Gaelic and there is picture of St Therese on it.
What a wonderful story in your family. What a simple good soul he was. God is so masterful in how he weaves our lives.
This is a beautiful explanation nsd! Thank you! I'm going to keep it and send it to my sister and daughter
No, Maryrose, not longwinded at all. A truly wonderful sharing. God has indeed set out special paths for each one of us.
non sum dignus, Thank you; a wonderful insight! Therese was unflappable. When privileged to attend a papal audience, the determined lass broke protocol and knelt before Pope Leo XIII begging to be allowed permission to enter the Carmel a year earlier than was customary. Such audacity produced a chorus of gasps! St. Therese, pray that we may possess the grace of humble simplicity!
