Hi, I'm just wondering could anyone tell me more about the brown scapular and also about Our Lady of Mount Carmel. I would be interested in knowing about the brown scapular as I have recently started wearing it. Thanks everyone.

Does Our Lady of Mount Carmel have a connection to the Brown Scapular?

Yes, the brown scapular is a stylized version of the Carmelites' habit. Wearing it is a daily and lifelong commitment. It is bestowed on you by a Priest. It leads to holiness through purgatory on earth. There is a connection with Simon Stock, a Carmelite.

  4. If you haven't already, ask a priest or deacon to bless your scapular and enroll you into it. It may be a small challenge to find a priest or deacon to perform the rite of enrollment. A nice Irish Monsignor enrolled my children years ago. Here is one form of the prayers of enrollment. Once you are enrolled, you never have to be enrolled again. If your scapular wears out and you replace it with a new one, it just has to be blessed, you do not need to be re-enrolled. Kiss your scapular frequently as small tokens of love and fidelity to Our Lady.

[The candidate for the scapular is kneeling. The priest, vested in surplice and white stole, or at least the latter, says:]

Priest or Deacon: Show us, O Lord, Thy mercy.
℟esponse: And grant us Thy salvation.
Priest: O Lord, hear my prayer.
Response: And let my cry come unto Thee.
Priest: The Lord be with you.
    Response: And with your spirit.

    Let us pray.
O Lord Jesus Christ, Savior of mankind, sanctify + by Thy right hand this habit, to be worn with devotion by Thy servants out of love for Thee and Thy Blessed Mother, Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Through her intercession, may they be defended from the hostile foe and persevere in Thy grace until death. Who livest and reignest forever and ever.
    Response: Amen.

[The priest sprinkles the garment with holy water, and invests the candidate, saying to each one:]

Receive this blessed habit, and call upon the most holy Virgin, that by her merits thou mayest wear it without stain, and be protected by her from all adversity and brought unto life everlasting.
    Response: Amen.

    [He continues:]

By the power granted to me, I receive you as a partaker of all the spiritual favors which, by the merciful help of Jesus Christ, are acquired by the religious of the Order of Carmelites. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, + and of the Holy Spirit.
    Response: Amen.

May almighty God, Maker of heaven and earth, bless + you – He Who has deigned to choose you for the confraternity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. And we intercede with our Lady that, in the hour of your death, she will crush the head of the ancient serpent, so that you can finally come into the possession of the crown and palm of the eternal inheritance. Through Christ our Lord.
    Response: Amen.

[He sprinkles the person with holy water.]

    This seems accurate

One of my first prayers each day:
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, sufferings of this day, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart; the salvation of souls, the reparation for sin, the reunion of all Christians; I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all members of the Apostleship of Prayer, and in particular for the intention recommended by the Holy Father this month.
