I'm sure most are aware of the attack today in Paris by terrorists. I'm sure we need to brace ourselves for more of this in the coming months. But what saddens me most is after reading about these tragedies online are the comments at the end of the story. You'll read comments about how it's the fault of the government for allowing these extremists into the country. But it never fails that the comments turn to hatred of religion because that's the root of all problems. Christianity is seen as the biggest problem even though I can't recall in the last few decades hearing of Christians blowing themselves up for God. You used to see more balance from both sides of comments in the past now it appears it's all atheistic and anti God. I can see the tide swelling for the erradication of all religions. It's such a tragedy for the loss of souls! I can see where only trusting in God is all we'll have soon. God Bless!
Savages, only a matter of time before it's in all countries in the West including the US. I highly recommend getting a concealed carry permit, and putting it to use so you are prepared to defend the defenseless against this evil
This video clearly shows the killers shooting dead a wounded policeman as he lay on the ground with his hands in the air. It pretty well says it all: Caution graphic
Fr Lombardi has issued this statement on behalf of Pope Francis: “Pope Francis joins the wounded and the families of victims in their prayers and suffering and urges all people to do everything in their power to stand against the spread of hatred and all forms of physical and moral violence that destroy human life, violate people’s dignity and radically undermine the fundamental goodness of peaceful coexistence among persons and peoples, regardless of nationality, religion and cultural background. Murderous violence is abominable no matter what the motivation and can never be justified. The life and dignity of all must be guaranteed and protected with determination, any instigation of hatred must be rejected and respect for others must be fostered. The Pope expresses his closeness, spiritual solidarity and support to all those who, in each of their roles, continue to strive for peace, justice and people’s rights, in order to eradicate the sources and causes of hatred at this painful and tragic time in France and throughout a world that is marked by tensions and violence.” http://vaticaninsider.lastampa.it/e...harlie-hebdo-vaticano-vatican-vaticano-38427/
I suppose it is necessary for the leader of the Christian world to be merciful and to avoid generalizations and stereotypes. At the same time, this message seems very measured, politically correct, and similar to current and former US presidents public statements issued following other Islamic attacks on civilians. ...A religion of peace....
Pope Francis is kind and forgiving. Sigh. Dear God teach me to kind and forgiving too. I do not find it easy just at the moment.
Today was a very sobering day here in Paris: following these sickening attacks, the city's 'Vigipirate' scheme is now on top alert, and the Lord only knows what may lie ahead from here on. There is clearly a lot of heavy weaponry in the Paris area and a large number of potential militants who could wreak untold havoc if they act in a coordinated fashion. To many - including the cartoonists themselves, who had received death threats in the past - this massacre came as no surprise. Sadly I don't have any sense that we're about to learn any deeper lessons from the Charlie Hebdo tragedy. Politicians here are trying to rally public opinion around the 'sacred union of the Republic' and 'freedom of speech' without realizing that these purely secular, ungrounded concepts are as problematic in their own way as religious fanaticism. The unspeakable acts of the terrorists were appalling and cowardly, and political satire has its place in public life, of course, but anyone familiar with Charlie Hebdo knows that the journal had been engaged long-term in completely pointless and downright blasphemous lampooning of all religion (take a look at www.lepoint.fr and you'll understand what I mean). That's not a capital offence, but it surely is senseless provocation in the current climate: unless the West finally starts to comprehend that a large part of the world doesn't view it primarily as a bastion of freedom but as a hotbed of moral degeneracy, then nothing will have been learnt from today. My question for the secularists is this - for all their talk about the sanctity of free speech, what did Charlie Hebdo's anti-religious campaign actually achieve? If someone had politely but firmly told them years ago to find more appropriate targets for their satirical talent, then a lot of families might well not be mourning tonight, although it has to be said that Islamic radicals don't take much provoking. One last point of relevance to this particular forum: that France would be attacked and that Paris in particular would suffer was been predicted on a number of occasions in recent alleged locutions received by Luz de Maria Bonilla in Argentina (June 18, July 16, November 5). You don't necessarily have to be a prophet to make a prediction like this, but ...
I feel the same, it's hard to feel compassion for them. But this is what the devil wants, he doesn't wants us to have mercy and pray for the opressed.
This is an aspect of the Storm which tempts me to fear: the apparent absence of God! When such lawlessness occurs on my doorstep, will I still trust in God? Father, into your hands, I commend my spirit! Psalm 10 1 Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble? 2 In pride the wicked hotly pursue the afflicted... 7 His mouth is full of curses and deceit and oppression; Under his tongue is mischief and wickedness. 8 He sits in the lurking places of the villages; In the hiding places he kills the innocent; His eyes stealthily watch for the unfortunate . 9 He lurks in a hiding place as a lion in his lair ; He lurks to catch the afflicted; He catches the afflicted when he draws him into his net. 10 He crouches , he bows down, And the unfortunate fall by his mighty ones. [But now, they no longer hide. We only have to go to Youtube!] 12 Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up Your hand. Do not forget the afflicted.
That cartoon is a mockery of the Catholic anti-gay marriage movement that took France by storm last year. The text says "The three fathers: The Father, the son, and the holy spirit" (the Catholic blessing). Isaiah 13:11 A Judgment against Babylon …10For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not flash forth their light; The sun will be dark when it rises And the moon will not shed its light. 11Thus I will punish the world for its evil And the wicked for their iniquity; I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud And abase the haughtiness of the ruthless. 12I will make mortal man scarcer than pure gold And mankind than the gold of Ophir.… The first caption reads, '100 lashes if you are not dying of laughter' The second: 'Love is stronger than hate'.
I think Peter highlights a very important aspect of this sad matter. 'Free speech' has undoubtedly become a religion for some, and a rather 'fundamentalist religion' at that. The cartoonists who died were certainly in that category and the editor had said clearly he was ready to die for the principle. In a strange way, they shared this aspect with their islamist killers. With regard to Pope Francis' response, although he is indeed kind and forgiving I found his words strong and severe against those who perpetrated this act. But his words were also directed at those tempted to respond in like fashion.
It is so sad what is passed off and hidden behind as "art", when it really should be labeled hate, and then to kill for what is passed off and hidden behind as art. It all leaves me feeling very hallow inside. It is all very tragic, and those killers are unleashed demons and pure evil. But those cartoonists are really misguided too. And they were willing to die for their "cause"...I don't know, I just feel very hallow about it. very sad, that is for sure.
This verse from Proverbs is wise and may be a lesson ( not that I in anyway do I see justification in the actions of these terrorists): Those who guard mouth and tongue guard themselves* from trouble. - Proverbs 21:23
