Strange happenings at a fire-tower…

Hello! I’m seeking prayers and if anyone has some, I’d like some information or insight as well.

today (or rather yesterday as I’m currently typing this is at 12:20 AM) me and my friend decided to have some fun after work. He picked me up in his car and we decided to drive up to this abandoned mansion we know of in the mountains.

we got to the mansion about 5:30-5:45 or so and walked up into it. Everything was rather fun and adventurous and we used this time to just talk and hang out as friends do. The house was abandoned a few years back after a massive forest fire had ravaged my home county and destroyed millions of dollars worth of property. We were exploring what was essentially just the abandoned concrete husk left over after the fire.

everything went how you’d expect. It was dark and we were exploring what seems to us as ancient ruins does to an archeologist. Even though it was dark, creepy and mysterious, we felt no tension or anything. In fact it was rather fun.
Our adventure was cut short however due to the presence of a black bear that had apparently made its home in the ruins so we back out and walked back to the car and left. This is not the experience we had that night. I am simply including it in order to show that the very same night we experienced what we did, we also had a very fun experience at an even creepier location, with an animal we both knew and recognized.

On to the real story.

After we had left the husk of a mansion, we were still in an adventurous mood. We decided to visit the abandoned fire-tower that had become a regular hangout spot for me and my friend after we had eaten dinner. Dinner went as normal, no strangeness there.

then we set off for the tower.

Immediately we both felt a deep sense of unease. A feeling we have never felt before when we’ve set off for the tower in times past.
The road to the fire tower is steep and winding, and the tower itself resides on the top of a very tall mountain, high above our city. Beside the firetower is a communications array, and the power supply for said array. This is all located very deep in the woods as well.

as we were driving up the mountain, I asked my friend a question… “Do you believe in ghosts?”.

“No” he responded. “Do you?”

I said “I do not, but I do believe in demons.”

he said “Me too.”

this was pretty much the only conversation we had up until we finally reached the mountain top and pulled into the carpark for the tower.

since we’re currently in winter, and since this tower is on top of a mountain, it was snowing a little bit and it was very dark out. As we were about to exit the car we both hesitated. I asked if he’d go first. He said he wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to climb the tower tonight since it was icy. I took this as an excuse to not go so I prodded some more. He came up with another excuse as well, that it was too dark and he didn’t want to trip going up the stairs. Now I knew he was making excuses since we both have come up the tower many times in the night and the frigid cold. I knew something was off.

then I looked up at the fire tower, and couldn’t shake a strange feeling. A feeling that something was up there we shouldn’t get close too. Then he said something that makes me shiver now as I’m typing this.

“Dude I think I’m seeing things”

“what do you mean?” I responded

“oh nothing maybe I’m just going crazy” he said, his tone nervous, unlike anything I’ve heard out of him before.

“What did you see?”

“I don’t know man but I think I saw something move behind that fence near the tree.”

For whatever reason this statement filled me with a deep sense of unease and a great desire to leave the premises immediately. I told him to please put the car into reverse and back out. the windows were fogged up so I, with great hesitation, rolled my window down and guided him back onto the road out.
we pretty much sped down the mountain as fast as we could without endangering ourselves and on the way down I started praying to God and saying Hail Marys and the St. Michael prayer.

when I asked him to tell me what exactly he saw he said, “I don’t know. It was big, like a huge man. It wasn’t a bear.”

I didn’t believe him at first so I kept prodding and asking him to promise he was telling me the truth.

“I swear man it was like, like a human but brown and smooth. Not like a jacket, not like skin, not like fur… not like anything.”

This deeply unnerved me.

“I don’t know what it was.”

I believe we both knew what it was. We just didn’t have the desire to say.

on the ride back to my house, we continued to talk about it and try to come up with reasonable natural explanations for such an event. We even pulled into a local supermarket to try and reenact what had happened. Nothing worked and nothing made sense.

We were both deeply unnerved with what we had seen, and we both prayed. While I eventually came to be at ease and rest about it, my friend is, even right at this very moment as he is making it known, unfortunately still very shaken up by the experience.

I had gone to confession today and was wearing a crucifix around my neck, my friend is not a Catholic thought and I fear for him for that reason.

I am asking prayers for him at this moment and I ask for prayers for this whole situation. Feel free to ask questions and I’ll do my best to answer.

I think sometimes Shamanistic from pagan cultures (in your case Native Americans) draw down demons and they take and tend to keep particular forms. My guess would be that this is happening here.

Needless to say it would be best to stay away from this place in the future because I am sure you won't. It might be a good idea to wear a sacramental for a while. The St Benedict's Cross is good just in case it followed you down. But a good Catholic has nothing to fear from demons. Just maybe scare you a little.

wow! Just what I was thinking (my dad even suggested it may be an “Old god” of the mountains)

funnily enough after I went to confession I found a San Damiano Crucifix necklace at the church which the parish administrator said I could have. I wore it all the way from the church to home where I am now.
I will continue to be praying. My friend just texted me and said it feels like something followed him home and it was hard to drive, like a bull breathing down his back. I prayed rosary for him. He also says he has a strange desire to go back. I am very wary of this prospect.

 

It would have taken on a form attractive to the Shaman that he or they would have expected, maybe a bear, a wolf or whatever and since it would have been a lower order demon have kept it. Remained fixed in that form. They are more of a nuisance than anything else. At least to good Catholic folks who live their Faith.
Sometimes they change forms a little and the Shamans, on that account, used to call them, 'Shape shifters'. They were know across the world from ancient times, even by the Druids here in Ireland.

 

It’s possible you may never see this creature again. The whole story reminds me of the Sherlock episode of hounds of something it’s called…
Really creepy for sure. If your friend goes back, which I hope he doesn’t he should take an exorcist priest with him.

I was confused by one part regarding time frames. Were you at the mansion all day until dark and then went to the tower?

 

No I got off of work at 4, I went to confession at a local chapel at around 5 and then my friend picked me up to go to the mansion around 5:30.

By that time it was already fairly dark out and once we got to the mansion the night had solidified itself. After we got done exploring the mansion it was around 6:30.

we ate around 7:30 (we got stuck in a terrible traffic jam) and then left for the fire tower around 8:15. I think we got there around 8:45.


As for my friend bringing an exorcist priest, I highly doubt he will since he neither believes in the Catholic Church nor the efficacy of the ministerial priesthood. He doesn’t believe in sacramentals either so I can’t even tell him to bring holy water or a crucifix…

 

I had misunderstood your post on times. Sorry about that. I thought you left early morning. Understandable regarding your friend. Have you discussed it with a priest? I just wonder if these things ever happened to others that went there. If some sort of blessing should be done in the area.

 

I’m on my way to Mass right now, I plan to ask my pastor what I should do or if there’s a blessing. I also intend to ask a Franciscan friar in the area who’s familiar with deliverance ministry the course of action we should take.

I am worried about your friend and attachments of some sort. Especially, feeling like something breathing on back of neck. Praying for him.

 

Your friend is headed for trouble. Protect yourself when you are with him as Padraig said. I am glad you found the Franciscan. Cross. Carry a blessed Rosary with you at all times if you don't already and whatever you do don't try and deliverance yourself. Get a priest. Seriously. Be prayed up before you are with him.

 

He is and I’m worried for him. He’s said he feels a strong pull to go back. He says he feels like something’s up there he needs to find. That’s no good at all.

I don’t want to go with him, I also won’t be able to convince him not to go. Maybe I can convince him to bring a rosary and some holy water…

personally I’m not sure if I should go with him or not. If I do I’ll go to confession, receive communion and pray a rosary beforehand.
I probably will not go however. Don’t want that attached to me.

Heed HH's advice. And stay away from this friend. His feeling of wanting to return to that place does not bode well for your friendship.

At least for me.. avoid this person...

I would recommend not going back there with your friend, going with him would show your supporting him in finding what he doesn't need to find. I obviously cannot be sure of what you saw but from your description it sounds very much like what was often seen in the college I attended back in New Hampshire. Very tall, elongated arms and fingers, smooth with grayish or brown skin. The legend was the school was built on or near an Indian mound.
Definitely pray for your friend but I don't think it would be necessary to distance yourself from him, he needs your good example! As long as you are living in a state of grace you should be fine but be prudent and don't play with fire.

 

I don’t intend on distancing myself from him. He is essentially my brother after all (known him since I was 3 or 4) and I love him like family.

he’s always been there for me and me for him. I won’t let the devil interfere with our friendship.
I’ll continue to pray for him and offer my prayers at Mass while receiving communion.
