Well much to my great surprise I got word from Spain today and they want me out there on the 22nd to sign for my new house. I asked them if I could not do things on a zoom call. But apparently ( are you mad) most certainly not (horror at the very idea). I have to appear before the Notary, who I think is like a lower Magistrate with everyone else and sign things with great formality. I can see I will have to get my suit out of storage and send it to get laundered. I don't think jeans and t shirt will cut it. I suspect there may be dinner and drinks etc. Meeting the family of the dead old lady will be nice. At least if I meet her ghost in the house I will know who she is. At first I was put out . But if I fly in on the 21st an out again on the 23th to St James Compostella from Dublin and maybe my lawyer will give me a lift into and from the meeting (oh please God) where he has to go himself, I may survive it without a car rental. The court is about an hour way in another town. I shall have to look my best , the impression I get is that they take there things very, very seriously and that there will be a lot of shaking hands and invites, maybe even a hug or two.. I would rather have had a zoom call over a cup of coffee. Jeans and t shirt would be a deadly insult. I must look my very, very best. Can't let Ireland down. May God's Holy Will be done. At least there is no problem with getting to Mass in St James Compostella. The Hotels are very cheap too. It is only two nights. 'I shall endeavor to persevere.'
This is really happening!!! Yikes. Such a formal event for the signing. But these people may become your first friends in Spain so it's very good to meet the family.
Is it Asturias or Galicia that you decided on in the end, Padraig? There will definitely be hugs from the family, along with the obligatory kiss on both cheeks from everyone
Dear Padraig, Congratulations on your move to the cute little red house, with a chapel nearby, very sweet. Real estate acquisitions in Germany must be notarised, with personal appearance before the notary. This is a legal requirement, to ensure all parties are of sound mind, acting on their own behalf and know what they're doing. I suspect it's the same in Spain. You don't have to bring a suit, only your passport.
Well done and Congrats on your house move Padraig. Best get those lips all puckered up for the locals! I pray the deal and all it entails will be blessed from day one. God bless you BC
Yes, I worry too much. I had four different visits to see my home here. They could not have been more different. The first was an out of his head drug addict from next door who was out of his head , loved my place and asked me where he could get a mortgage? Happily he did not linger. The second was a lovely grandmother who was sharp as a razor and missed nothing. The third was a really nice gentleman from a Charity for the Homeless who wishes to buy my place for a Palestinian refugee girl. He made a cash upfront on the spot offer. The fourth were a buisness couple who are thinking of buying my place for Air&B. I don;t think I'll hear from them again, they seemed flighty. Its interesting meeting all these different people. Next week in Spain I'll be meeting loads more strangers of every type. It is an education. Part of me looks at them and asks the big question, 'Where are you at with God?'
I pray that will find a number of good souls in Spain, especially at the local parish. By the way, how close will you be geographically to a Catholic Church?
It is called Saint Roman and is very very old indeed. There were 60 people in the Parish twenty years ago . I am sure there are far fewer now. The Parish Priest idv96 and has there at least 40 years
It is called St Roman and is centuries old. There were 60 people in the parish in 2020 and I am sure there are far fewer now. The parish priest is 96 years old and has been there at least 40 years. I could easily walk to it
Who is St. Roman? Did you know that August 9th is the Feast of our patron Saint? St. Roman is relatively unknown. We do not know his actual name. He originally was referred to as the Roman Saint and later the name just reversed and became St. Roman. He was a policeman, correctional officer, civil servant, who was serving in Rome at the time when St. Lawrence had been imprisoned for his refusal to surrender the treasury of the Roman Church to the Empire. As Roman beheld the endurance and fortitude of St. Lawrence during his persecution and marveled at his virtuous courage and heroic patience, St. Roman was so inspired that he approached the Holy Martyr and asked to be received in the Faith. St. Lawrence first gave the necessary instructions to St. Roman and then he baptized him in the prison. This brave young man then publicly proclaimed his conversion to Christianity to his fellow policemen, and he was immediately arrested and convicted. St. Roman thereupon received the crown of martyrdom by being beheaded on August 9, 258, the day BEFORE the execution of St. Lawrence. https://www.stromans.com/

Well my house sold in just four days at a good price to a cash buyer you can't ask much better than that! Thank you St Joseph ! My estate agent referred me to a lawyer who was going to just a big fee. While walking the dog I mulled it over, did a google and found a very good Catholic lawyer you has agreed to take care of things 40% less. Thank you once again St Joseph! All this is happening in Ireland whilst I arrive in Spain next week to sign for my Spanish house. Things seem to be suddenly moving at warp speed and as far I can tell I would be free to move within four weeks since it is a cash buyer. The only thing holding me back is the dog. The pet passport appointment with the vert is Dec 2nd and after this I have to wait 30 days till the rabies shot takes. This brings me into the Christmas and New Years Holidays when the ferry stops.
St jo St Joseph got you this far Padraig.. he'll likely get you the rest of the way in his own time too
Please God. So many different hurdles to jump. I must try and enjoy it more, but it is so complicated
you have moved to Spain? nice, the countryside there idyllic there are still shepherds with huge herds of sheeps there!
