28,000 Disney employees (unsure if laid off or permanent job loss).

30,000+ airline workers now face layoffs.

People are going to start getting desperate. :(

Yes, our governor in WA I hope is held to account for Boeing moving all of it's 787 dreamliner production to South Carolina. 30k good paying jobs gone from the area. This is not a spur of the moment decision for Boeing. They have been talking about this for years now and governor Inslee has had ample opportunity to try to entice Boeing into remaining in the area. If Inslee is elected again I have no doubt that he will do everything he can to put a state income tax into place here. We are one of only a handful of states in the US who do not have one and he has been floating the idea ever since being elected.
My wife and a great many people have been placed on standby from the school district and are now drawing unemployment and working only a few hours per week handing out food to families. We are now paying for our medical insurance out of pocket. Thankfully, we still have it. There are many districts here who simply laid their staff off with no promise of return. This will result in a loss of seniority and all benefits.

Glad you do still have medical insurance, even if out of pocket.

From roughly 2004 to 2009, I was assigned to Polyclinic of Seattle's work (home-based). Many of its patients were Boeing employees. I'd since lost contact with Boeing-related news. Surprised they'd move any of it out of Washington.

I was relying on a local article for the 30k number of potential jobs. Governor Inslee says it is 1k which I have a very hard time believing. Especially considering all the non Boeing busineses that support the aerospace industry here. I have a friend whose entire business was nothing but Boeing machining work. Regardless, Inslee has since decided that the best tactic is to publicly threaten Boeing with reviewing its tax incentives if it moves production to SC.

Everything is very dear at the grocery store. Particularly meat. My mainstay are beans. I make a lot of bean stews, mainly with vegetables added and just a bit of meat for flavor. I noticed that even Walmart's beef prices have gone up. And Vienna sausages have almost doubled in price.

Beans are great. You are right. You can put some meat with them and it stretches.

    We eat Tex mex sometimes
Can of refried beans, small amount of ground beef. Some cheese
    Then make quesadillas
    Husband loves them with salsa

My son and his grandmother invented this sort of taco salad.
Can of Campbell’s chunky chili with beans
Lettuce or bagged salad, add your other choice of veggies to the salad base
Put scoop of heated chili on top
    A little cheese
I like onion and sour cream
Put some tortilla chips around it
    It’s healthy and filling

A number of us on the forum have been highlighting the hidden agenda behind the covid pandemic response. In 2021 there is planned a great global reset. In order to introduce a new socialist type world economy based on sustainable development model so they are allowing the present economies to collapse. We are headed for tough times.

That's very smart. We grow a lot of our food--veg and fruit--and have been buying our meat locally. A friend raises pigs and another raises lamb. I recently found a source for grass fed beef. What has really gone up are household items like cleaning stuff and paper products. Two days ago I did a big shopping and those shelves were almost bare. Hmmmm.

Food prices have gone up slightly here, but this State is second most impoverished (Mississippi is first). I can still buy a 1 and 1/2 pounds pack of boneless chicken breasts for $3.75.

This issue is again troubling me today. Over 30,000 people are on the verge of losing their jobs (airline industry).

Nancy Pelosi must be a sociopath. She's probably enjoying another scoop of $20 per quart ice cream from her $10,000 freezer.

I recently read very a sad story about the devastating impact that COVID closures have had on the tourist industry in the Orlando area. So many who lost their jobs are in dire straits, some even living in abandoned motels with no electricity or water. This recent Disney announcement will only add fuel to the fire, as jobs in central Florida are nearly nonexistent. Disney has become very greedy, and they have done some despicable things. A few years back many Disney IT employees lost their jobs. They were actually required to train their replacements who were brought in from India before they were let go. Shameful.

Yes, and Disney workers too. Awful.

I didn't know that some are living in abandoned motels. :(

    Do recall that. {shakes head}

I haven't wanted to work today (independent contractor with a home office), but you know ... all these people who'd LOVE to be earning a "paycheck" today. So I'm pounding the keyboard.
