'Two explosions have taken place in Kabul - one outside the airport and another at a nearby hotel which have resulted in an "unknown number of casualties".
It is unclear how many people were hurt in the attacks in Afghanistan, but US defence spokesman John Kirby confirmed the blast occurred near Abbey Gate at the airport.
Two US officials told the Reuters news agency the explosion appears to have been caused by a suicide bombing.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been updated on the situation at Kabul airport and will chair an emergency Cobra meeting on Thursday afternoon, Downing Street has said.
It follows just hours after a UK government minister said there was an "imminent" terror attack threat from so-called Islamic State affiliated ISIS-K and warned British nationals to stay away.
British military troops have recently been based at Abbey Gate at Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport.'

Joe Biden is so gone...
Oh, my heavens.
Tragic, and shameful.
This is an act of war. Biden is not even capable of taking questions from the press, how in the world will he respond to this catastrophe. Who is pulling the strings behind Joe Biden? This is frightening.
US officials provided Taliban with names of American and Afghan allies to evacuate.
If he's allowed to remain in office, it 100% solidifies...
I have no words.
Prayers for the souls lost today in this horrific act of terror. Prayers for the poor families of the Marines, and the Navy medic who were killed, what a dark and terrible day for them.
SCOOP: U.S. officials gave the Taliban a list of names of U.S. citizens, green card holders & Afghan allies to grant entry into the outer perimeter of the city’s airport, prompting outrage behind the scenes from lawmakers and military officials. (from Lara Seligman)
