Ireland has fallen

There was no priest in the video Aidan's comment related to. And he didn't attack any priest. His comments on the video's contents were justified.

We all see priests slogging away in parishes. They aren't on committees devising programmes for religious education in Catholic schools. Perhaps if they were, the Holy Spirit would get a mention in the promotional videos.

I've been thanking God this past two days that I can stay home rather than brave the weather. Yesterday I shovelled snow from around the doors and to clear a path to the shed and coal bunker. Had to do it all again this morning and, looking out now, it looks like it will be a case of rinse and repeat tomorrow morning because it snowed all day today. Judging by the amount of snow piled up in front of my car, it looks like I'll be lucky if I can get to Mass on Sunday.

That said, we didn't get the predicted strong winds and blizzard and please God it will bypass us. What's falling now is more like drizzly rain so I'm hoping the thaw will set in tomorrow.

    You are brave, Dolours

Not brave at all. I only cleared a very narrow walking space. I thank God for a warm home and food to eat and pray for those who aren't so blessed.

First Friday tomorrow and I haven't a hope of getting to Mass. I think that last month was my fifth First Saturday but I'm not certain.

    It’s not your fault

    AidanK A great sinner

I said nothing against priests or the priesthood and I pray frequently for priests and for God to give us many good holy priests

I'm afraid it is my fault because had I paid more attention to God than to myself over the years I would have completed many first Fridays and Saturdays. I think the blizzard has reached us. Heard the wind whistling in the chimney and looked out. All that drizzly "rain" turned into white, fluffy snow piled up against the back door which opens outwards. I managed to push it open far enough to squeeze through and do some more shovelling. Hope I've done enough but it's the middle of the night and I didn't want to wake the neighbourhood so just cleared around the door.

    Well Dolours,

If WX, Illness or whatever makes travel to Church dangerous/impossible then Celebrate in place 'cause as I recall, Jesus said in Matt. 18:20:
"For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."
The time will come, as in many times past, where/when The Faithful will have to Celebrate in groups of "two or three" and why I expect that this quote ended up in Scripture!

    GOD SAVE ALL HERE!!

I will remember you tomorrow in my prayer intentions at Mass Dolours. Stay warm and enjoy your time snowed in! :)

Somehow the very cold weather took me by surprise but I have my trusty long johns on today and will venture forth today again . It is very rare in Ireland to get such extreme cold. I would say there was about a quarter of the congregation at mass yesterday but I admire the ones that made it. It is the first time at home I actually felt at cold at night and turned the heating on a couple of times. I heard a phone call from a gentleman in Russia who said that in our weather they would consider it a balmy spring and would be in shirt sleeves.:):)

There has to be a real natural horror of child abuse. Sympathy for the victims rather than the abusers. I don't know why some Bishops have just not got that. Of course we do not want the innocent found guilty but if they are accused they need to be firmly put aside till things are sorted.

There seems to be no spiritual discernment of evil whatsoever.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if our 6 pm Mass is canceled
Everything around here is either closed or lacking power or unsafe due to high winds
    Dolours, you are not alone

Some people wouldn't know evil if it stared them in the face --

We have lived through the 100 years influenced by satan -- where certain ideas have taken hold that are diabolical and evil -- Marxist-Leninism , National Socialism, Islamist jihadism -- these have led to deaths of millions --

And since the 1960s permissive rights have allowed the destruction of millions of babies in the womb --

Child abuse in the Catholic church falls is in the evil category -- with abusive priests on the road to perdition --

    God is certainly patient!

Well from where I'm sitting the weather warnings were justified. People stranded all night in their cars, abandoning their cars to brave the walk home, etc. There's a thick blanket of snow outside and it's still coming down heavy here on the south coast, no let up in sight. Not just media hype this time I'm afraid, although I was saying the very same thing only two days ago and even last night. It's nasty out there.

I doubt they have the time, Dolours.

And you'e right there weren't. My post was in response to the general jist of the thread.

Many seem keen to criticise the clergy. But many fail to see the daily pressure they are under. And fewer again do anything at all to help out in their respective parishes.

Yes, this is true. But as I mentioned earlier. That reply was in response to the general jist of the thread.

...saying that, the general criticism of the church really annoys me.

I'm sorry for your plight Dolours. I hope you get the back door opening properly.

I posted in relation to the weather earlier. Up here we were warned and re-warned about the snow and the detrimental consequences of it.

The media were at it again: red warnings everywhere! i dont even know what a red warning is. Sensationalising the whole thing. It was cold, yes. But that was it for us really.

I wonder what our ancestors did without the media to 'help' us.
Its a a wonder we survived these past couple thousand years really...
