It's the same with all mainstream parties. They are all traitors. I don't know how they sleep at night.
The PR system of voting here in the south means it's impossible to shift them. We have a lot of Independent candidates but it's difficult to have any kind of transfer strategy so Mainstream parties continue to be able to maximise their vote with effective transfer strategies. We can only beg the Lord to help us. We are living in a terrible country.

We are living in terrible times here in the USA, too, maryrose. I agree that we can only beg the Lord to help us. We are old enough to remember when things were
different. And we long for the old days and the old ways to return.

A united Ireland was a dream that long preceded the destruction of our country. I think it still worthwhile in itself. I am not so sure the political establishment are keen on the notion, at all. It threatens to destabilise their electoral monopoly. I might be wrong, but I perceive both communities in the North of Ireland to be more conservative than the majority of people down South. Regardless, we need Divine help anyway.

It is very sad and yes "terrible" compared to what it was. But a far better country, despite the hideous politicians, than anywhere else I've lived (8 nations in all).

Yes definitely more conservative, living up here myself.

I know some who are against a United Ireland because they would hope to preserve this Northern Conservativeness.

Not me! I agree, De Gaulle, that a United Ireland is "worthwhile in itself"— Joining Back Together something that was never meant to be sundered.

I also think this Joining Back Together could bring healing to the whole island. The presence of this Conservatism here, DUP etc would likely make it a lot harder for the whole liberal establishment in the South to govern.

Thank you for confirming what I had long suspected. Let us hope for unity and a re-banishment of the snakes.

I think even Luther would be horrified by what passes as Catholicism in some quarters, nowadays.

im a fenian irish french king from birth. all you need for unity is an english monarch of irish ancestry and then theyd seperate from each other. people on both sides are making money off it i grew up around both in Boston. God will bring unity to Ireland.

The Holy Spirit will not bless that which is unholy. We will only get Catholic vocations when we are Catholic.

Look at the Dominican Order in Ireland they are getting large crowds of vocations because they remain Catholic.

The problem is that many Catholic Bishops and Cardinals and people like the Jesuits think that the Catholic Church has to confirm to the beliefs of the modern pagan world in Order to become popular. So they change.

But Catholics look at this new modern up to date creation, see it is no different than the world around them and wonder to themselves what they need a Church for? So they bale out.

Instead of when discovering they have dug a hole for themselves with this nonsense the Vatican, the Jesuits and many Bishop just dig harder as though suicidal.

Edna O'Brien a 'speaker of truth', funeral told

Chief celebrant Fr Donagh O'Meara described her as "a remarkable" and "an extraordinary" woman. He said she was "a profound family person, a mother, a grandmother and a great grandmother". Fr O'Meara said the late author was "hugely determined and she worked so hard." He also said she "experienced many challenges during her long life." "She was a speaker of truth. Edna held up a mirror for us in a very narrow time in Ireland."

Why do these priests insist on praising anti-Catholic celebrities in the pulpit?

She wasn't a practising Catholic, she dabbled in Buddhism and stirred controversy in Ireland with her secular and pro abortion stance. Yes, there were problems in the Church in the sixties, no doubts but she certainly wasn't a speaker of truth. B/s of the worst kind.

I am sick of these celebrity mock funerals and priests who love the TV cameras.

When is this nonsense going to stop?

It is one more bruise inflicted on the Mysticsl Body. Its all part of funeral canonizations that are the rule now. So the poor woman will receive no prayers for her soul. Terrifying.

Am I right in believing that eulogies are actually not allowed at catholic funerals?.
