Stats have been released for deaths in the North of Ireland (these figures go back to 1887). 2020 = 17,424 deaths (Corona Virus) In 2017 it was 16,036 deaths 1973 = 17,669 1951 = 17,628 1943 = 17,347 (WW2) 1918 = 25,013 (WW1 & Spanish Flu) The population of NI has grown a lot in the past 10 years to 1.8m There is an ageing population. Historically 2020 just looks like a year with a bad flu season. 1951 and 1973 had higher totals than 2020.
