I've got two versions of this carol that are both favorites of mine. The first is from a family group called "The Five Strings":

And this next one, by John Gorka, has stayed with me for 20 years since I first ran across a recording of his performance at a coffee house:

I will tell you a secret.

Pray for the children in purgatory.

You will no longer need an alarm clock.

They will wake you up singing Christmas Carols.

No matter what time of the year, they just love Christmas Carols.

I can’t remember exactly where I read this but the most souls are released from Purgatory on Christmas! Even more reason for joy/ and to pray for souls in Purgatory

....that is just such a great quote. I hope it's true. At 56, I'm big on Christmas carols being traditional. I don't mind some Bing, Dean and others. They can be great. But my favorites have always been the traditional religious ones, sung by a choir. Very tough finding a CD that features this.

Apologist, Theologian Michael Patrick Barber list this, "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent" as his favorite carol. I didn't even know it but once I listened to it a few times, I agree that it is a very nice song.

"The words are based on a verse in the book of Habukkuk: "But the LORD is in his holy temple; let all the world keep silence before Him" (Habakkuk 2:20) The song's message is clear: "Christ our God to earth descendeth"-God has become flesh. The world's response to this is stunned silence and worship." - "The true meaning of Christmas" by Michael Patrick Barber, page 133.
