I LOVE Alan Keyes. I watched the debate between Obama and him when it was on TV. He won on the points, but the audience was so obviously in favor of the social program agenda of Obama that they didn't give Keyes a shot.

Didn't he only have like 7 weeks or so to campaign that area... the main R candidate droped out or something. He campaigned on values while BHO was given free cell phones....sighhhh

Believe me I am aware of the situation and how grave it is. I see your concerns and I don't think they are unjustified at all. My only concern is I don't want the dog hurting himself in the bid to get my attention. If people go too far and mock the Pope, etc. might they not fall into mortal sin?

I am awake; I see the wolves circling; but I won't kick them until they attack. If they do then I'll be right there at your side defending the homestead, only I'm from the USA, so I won't need to kick them, I've got a shotgun. ;)

This little sheep can see it with utter horror Padraig; But lives in the belief that the True Shepherd does not want His sheep trying to take on any wolves.

He confounds the learned and the wise, and reveals His secrets and Truths to the simple, and the children. Look at La Salette, Lourdes, Fatima, Garabandal, Medjugorje, the Annunciation.

In the beginning was the Word. And the Word was with God. And the Word was God.

And the Word was made flesh and dwelt amongst us.

Blessed Mother was just a girl when the Lord revealed His secret to her.

It is safer to stay little and hide under the Wing of the Lord, until the Storm passes.

You have mentioned coming back to the Church earlier this year, if I remember right.
I came back in the early 1990s, the Church was a total mess here. once I started re-learning the faith and getting involved I seamed to get hit from all sides, protestant friends undermining, false apparitions, bad priests and Bishops. These folks who are decenters didn't come out of the wood with Papa Francis election, they ave been working for a wile now, but thanks be to God they are retireing.
I guess that was training for me for this very time, im not rocked...at least for now.
My hero Bishops and Cardinals who were so Orthodox years later let me down and many others..
If you read Papa Francis homily from yesterday about Priests are not mushrooms its really good. He quotes the Trent Council , basically, if a Bishop will not reside in his geographical area, then resign... Trent is still in effect he noted.

Prae, hope this doesnt come across harsh... wasn't intended to, just sharing part of my past 23years

With the year of Mercy weeks away, Great quote by St Ambrose...

He recalled that “St. Ambrose, in the fourth century, said: 'Where there is mercy, there is the spirit of the Lord; where there is rigidity there are only his ministers'. The minister without the Lord becomes rigid, and this is a peril for the people of God. Pastors, not functionaries.”

Not harsh at all. I did have a lot of catching up to do when I returned to the faith, but luckily I wasn't starting from zero. Before I left the Church I had been prepping for seminary for a few years so I was pretty "on top" of at least the basic fundamentals.

When Our Lady gave me my faith back in a miraculous way, she also showed me the state of the faith and the sad condition of the Church. I am under no illusions that Pope Francis started all of this. The rot has been going for 50 years now, even longer. Long before Vatican II, the "progressives" were itching to "update" the Church and "modernize" it. I am firmly convinced that this goes against the will of God, whose Church is constant and unchanging. Update the way a priest dresses, or the songs we sing at Mass, fine. Update the basic fundamentals of the faith, no way.

We know several things from prophecy. There will be a chastisement. There will be an anti-pope and the true Pope will flee. There will be a false church set up that mimics the true Church of Christ and the true Church will wind up in hiding. A remnant. Either now or shortly there will be a great deception of the faithful. Not something pleasant to think about but many of the prophecies for our time aren't.

I think we are seeing the birth pangs of that now in the Church. I do not know how this deception will come about, but I am keeping my eyes peeled. I do not want to jump the gun and accuse the Pope of something he is not doing. My personal opinion is that it will be Pope Francis' successor (not a true successor, just the man in the Papal seat in Rome) who is the anti-pope. Pope Francis will be the Pope who flees the Russian invasion and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI is the "bishop dressed in white" who is killed in Rome.

Truth vs Mercy. I believe this is where this argument lies. No one is better at mercy than the holy father. Both truth and mercy are integral parts of our faith. However, as our pastor said Sunday, mercy without the truth is just a feel good lie. As I have questioned (along with others), where is the truth? Is it legitimate to ask? I believe the answer is, of course, because without the truth, mercy is just a feel good lie.

I used to work in politics, I used to be a big fan of Keyes. I can tell you a story that happened on the campaign trail that would make you not the biggest fan of keyes. Of course this goes back to 1996 so he could have changed :)

Truth is not the opposite of Mercy. Damnation is the opposite of mercy. So when Pope Francis pleads Mercy, it has nothing to do with truth or non-truth. But where there is mercy...there is damnation. If everything is coming to an end...Our Holy Father is giving many of us one more chance. I don't fear what Papa Francis is doing, he is trying to save souls.

Its interesting how some people are against mercy...interesting that we will all be judged by God. Will it be damnation or mercy?

I don't think it's fair FS to say some of the people are against mercy. I think they against false mercy, which is abounding in some of our Church leaders today. Jesus said "Go and sin no more", He didn't say "Go and don't worry about your sins so much".

One example is the rise and acceptance of "dignity masses" for homosexuals. This is a false mercy, it tells the sinner he needn't worry about his sins because God is all merciful. There are many other examples.

God is perfect mercy, but He is perfectly just too. True mercy is forgiving the sinner, but also pointing out clearly what sins he is guilty of and correcting him not to commit them in the future. This is what we are charged with doing as Catholics.

Well Julia, think of it like this.

It is not right to kick someones door in, doing great damage in the process. Then without permision to rush into the house, scream at the unfortunate householder, throw her over your shoulder and run downstairs and drag the poor woman out into the cold street. These things are usually awful and criminal actions.

....unless perhaps you have spotted her house is on fire and its the only way you have to save her from getting burnt to a crisp is a lack of charity in order to perform a greater act of charity.

I don't know how better to put it to you than that some doors need kicked in and some folks need dragged out of bed. Sometimes walking past on the other side of the street, saying a prayer, wishing them and well and leaving them to get on with things just isn't going to get the job done.:)

Sometimes the size 12 boot needs to be put right to the front door. Alarming, I grant you, but sometimes necessary

Sometimes , I think pins need to be stuck into balloons in order to bring them back down to Earth. :)

I think a lot of our current problems are caused by we as a Church having put too much sugar in the coffee. We have forgotten that one of coffee's virtues is that it is a little bitter. We have lost our bite.

The balloon needs to come back down to Earth and we need to wake up and taste the coffee. If this guy is a heretic and if he is in the company of a crowd of other heretics whom he has promoted and led right into sheepfold it could lead to the Eternal Damnation of many millions upon millions of people and the destruction of the Catholic Church from within. In the light of this calling the guy a , 'Clown', seems to me to be almost a compliment.

What was it Jesus said about swallowing a camel but straining at swallowing a gnat?

Having thought about this education speech some more, I think we need to cut the Pope some slack. The reality is that Catholic schools haven't served their purpose if the primary aim of Catholic schools is to pass on the faith, giving Catholic children a sound grounding in the faith. For the most part, they have done well giving a good education in academic subjects but any school can do that. Many of the most virulent anti-Catholics have been given a Catholic education, some in the most prestigious Catholic schools. They come out of those schools either believing that helping the poor means State control of poverty or helping "Christians" to get rich so they can dole out largesse to the "right" kind of poor. Neither truly reflects the message Jesus passed on to the apostles.

Now, we are faced with Catholic schools being obliged by governments to teach a type of morality that is contrary to the faith. This starts by highlighting the shortcomings in Muslim schools but quickly moves on to any faith based school that doesn't comply with the State's take on equality, morality and mercy.

Some good Catholic schools might need to be sacrificed now to save many children being indoctrinated in the future. It is the Pope's responsibility to ensure that the faith will survive. If that means giving children a good grounding in the faith outside mainstream education, then the Holy Father is doing his job. As things stand, rather than the faith dying from persecution, it is facing death by a thousand heresies.

Padraig, I think you are crossing a line in the sand here. One should not suggest the Pope is a heretic without irrefutable evidence and the insult in your penultimate sentence is both to the man and the office. This is unbecoming. You need to reread Father Joseph another time.

Julia Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

Hope you can watch this video. It answered a lot of questions for me. It is what happened to one sheep dog who broke the door down, only to discover the wolves who devoured him. And we have paid the price for him not being listened to.

I am aware talks by the Priest in this video have been hijacked by traditionalist et al to support their arguments; but remember this was 30 and more years ago all this happened. And he was bang on target, when the rest of us were totally unaware.

If you want to be a sheep dog. Get a dog collar; but after you know what happens if the sheep dog tries to warn the sheep. I still back the idea of prayer and trust in God, for what it is worth.
