I had read that this was difficult to watch, and expected some redemptive payoff. I was unable to get through half of it because of antiCatholic writing and mockery. Set in Ireland, with Brendan Gleeson starring, it depicts the week in the life of a good priest, after his hearing a remarkable confession. I will have to stick with reliably Catholic movies for Lent. My complaint is that I got impetus to watch Calvary from supposed Catholic reviewers! I am hoping that the hype about the new Cinderella movie isnt also misleading.
I liked it. I felt it depicted the crucifixion and the crucifixion of the church. Those in it who were angry with the church were quite unsavory Characters anyway and I felt Gleeson played quite a genuine priest.
watch this for Lent. It is wonderful! The Annunciation: The Visitation and Magnificat: (my favorite part from the movie)
Bill O Rielly from FOX news wrote a Best selling book, Killing Jesus now made into film to air I believe on Palm Sunday evening on Discovery Channel. Bill states we have not seen a movie on Jesus like this, promises viewers not to disappoint. Interviews I watched with Bill he noted the Bible was not used for the book or movie, just historical documents.Cant wait !

I suppose by not watching through to the end, I really didn't allow for a redemptive ending. Thanks for balancing my comment.
