And what INSTANCES are acceptable for those living in adultery to receive communion? Cause I can guarantee you that some instances will be all instances, when Jesus gave No Instances for those living in adultery to get to heaven, accept to the woman being stoned for adultery "go and sin no more" "Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Hath no man condemned thee? Neither will I condemn thee. Go now and sin no more " [John 8:11].
I am sorry to hear of your son's situation and I will pray for him. I have relatives in this life style as well. But, it is a choice, as God does not make that which is contrary to his own image (homosexuality) and then condemn that person for what the creator himself ordained. Best to hear what the Church teaches on this, that it is a "disorder", not from the creator, but from the world, and then pray and sacrifice for him as I do for my own children. Is a child who fornicates created that way too? No, they are choices made from a world who applauds such.
There was a lady who was in Church there at mass and was telling me that she has six sons who never go to mass now, so I sympathise. What does it mean to be a homosexual? Well I suppose someone who is homosexual is someone who takes part in homosexual acts. Just as someone who is a bank robber is someone who robs banks. Some who has thoughts or inclinations to rob banks or day dreams about robbing banks is not a bank robber , they have to get out and rob banks, they have to do it. No one is a homosexual who has inclinations to homosexual acts , or who day dreams about it or who has thoughts about it is a homosexual. What makes a homosexual a homosexual is that they get out and do homosexual acts, just as for the bank robbers. So there is a crossing over point, a point at which they sin and become bank robbers or actual homosexuals. Just as person can choose to rob a bank or become a homosexual , so someone can choose not to engage in homosexual acts, or no longer to rob banks. As to what Holy Scripture and the Church has to say about homosexual acts and those who partake in them it is quite clear: Romans 1:24-32 24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with mena]">[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Timothy 1:10 …9We realize that law is not enacted for the righteous, but for the lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinful, for the unholy and profane, for killers of father or mother, for murderers, 10for the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave traders and liars and perjurers, and for anyone else who is averse to sound teaching 11that agrees with the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.… You can search the bible from top to bottom, nowhere in not one single instance is homosexuality ever approved of. On the contrary everywhere is is mentioned it is condemned and condemned in the strongest possible terms. This condemnation has been repeated by the Church in her entire 2,000 years history never has she said it is right , it has been repeatedly condemned by the Fathers of the Church, by the saints, and by Pope after Pope. It is named as gravely wrong an disordered in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. 1. Athenagoras of Athens (2nd Century) "But though such is our character (Oh! why should I speak of things unfit to be uttered?), the things said of us are an example of the proverb, 'The harlot reproves the chaste.' For those who have set up a market for fornication and established infamous resorts for the young for every kind of vile pleasure -- who do not abstain even from males, males with males committing shocking abominations, outraging all the noblest and comeliest bodies in all sorts of ways, so dishonoring the fair workmanship of God."1 2. Tertullian (160-225) "But all the other frenzies of passions--impious both toward the bodies and toward the sexes--beyond the laws of nature, we banish not only from the threshold, but from all shelter of the Church, because they are not sins, but monstrosities."2 3. Eusebius of Caesarea (260-341) "[God in the Law given to Moses] having forbidden all unlawful marriage, and all unseemly practice, and the union of women with women and men with men."3 .
When Jesus was asked questions whilst here on Earth by the Scribes and Pharisees who most certainly were challenging His authority , He did not hand over the microphone to the Apostles He answered their questions directly and to the point. If Jesus Christ, the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, the Messiah, the Saviour of the World could answer questions form all comers I don't see why Pope Francis can't. He can answer questions on plane when the press ask, he can answer questions of atheist Professors, from Lutherans, Homosexuals and famous Abortionists. I don't think a question or two from a group of his own Catholic Cardinals should have been any big issue.
BOO!! There appears to be a problem meeting Cardinal Burke and yet this was no problem meeting this lady? https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/n...y-pope-francis-to-speak-at-catholic-church-in RONCO DI CASSATO, Italy, July 19, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) — Emma Bonino, a former abortionist once praised by Pope Francis as “a great Italian,” will appear in a Catholic church to present the pro-migrant campaign “ERO STRANIERO: La humanità che fa bene” (“I was a stranger: Humanity that does good”) As an abortion rights activist and an abortionist herself, Bonino is directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of approximately six million Italian babies between 1968 and today. Bonino’s appearance in the Church of San Defendente, Ronco di Cassato, on July 26 will be one of several events celebrating World Refugee Day 2017. The moderator of Bonino’s talk will be parish priest Don Mario Marchiori. On his blog “Stilum Curae,” Vatican-based journalist Marco Tosatti remarked dryly that “One assumes that now, after having helped deprive this country of an enormous number of human beings, [Bonino] will be able — in church — to push for a nice ethnic replacement program in Italy.” More than 500,000 migrants have entered Italy in the past three years. Bonino came to the attention of Catholics outside her native Italy when in 2016 Pope Francis told an interviewer for the Corriere della Sera that she was “among the great ones of Italy.” To those who “blink” at Francis’ admiration for Bonino, Francis cited Bonino’s work for refugees: “She is the person who understands Africa best. And she has offered the best service to Italy through understanding Africa.” Francis told his interviewer that he has been told Bonino is someone “who thinks very differently from us. But [I say] patience. You have to look at people, what they do.” Bonino, now 69, had an illegal abortion at age 27 and, as she told an interviewer for feminist website European Database, the experience inspired her to go into politics. In 1975, she began to work as a volunteer abortionist for the Italian Information Center on Sterilization and Abortion she founded with Adela Faccio. Bonino personally performed 10,000 abortions. After four months abroad evading arrest, she returned to Italy and served a 10-day prison term. She believes her arrest caused the abortion issue to “burst” in Italy. Certainly it propelled her into the limelight. For more than 40 years, she has been a hero to Italian left-wing media. Bonino joined the Italian Partito Radicale (Radical Party) in the mid-1970s and was first elected to government in 1976. Until 1978, her primary mission was the legalization of abortion. Having achieved it, she turned her attention to liberalizing Italian divorce laws. With friend and colleague Marco Pannella, a founder of the Radicals, Bonino championed a number of left-wing causes, including the legalization of recreational drugs, the banning of a national nuclear energy program, nudism, same-sex “marriage,” transgenderism, the abolition of the armed forces, the disbanding of NATO, the liberalization of porn laws, and mandatory sex education. According to Family Domani, Bonino identifies with the 1970s feminist slogan “No longer wives, daughters and mothers! Let’s destroy the family!” With the rest of the Italian Radical party, she threw in her lot with FUORI (Fronte Unitario Omosessuale Rivoluzionario Italiano — or United Revolutionary Front of Italian Homosexuals) in the 1970s. Recently Bonino has taken up the cause of mass migration to Italy from Africa and the Middle East. WIthout irony, she says this migration is necessary to Italy’s survival because of the low Italian birthrate. She is calling for integration of the migrants, to save them from homelessness and human trafficking. Just as Pope Francis admires her work for migrants, so Bonino admires Pope Francis. In a recent interview with the Financial Times, she praised Francis for changing the Catholic Church: “As long as he lasts, as long as he hangs on, it is less of a stepmother, it is more inclusive,” Bonino said. “I’m not practicing, I’m not even Catholic, but my family is. They felt rejected and now they feel much more welcome.” Bonino has no children.
Hi Mary Kelly, First and foremost, I wouldn't frame your son or anyone else a matter of fact, as 'being gay' - that is to look at people through the lenses of gender ideology. We are much more than our sexual desire, so we are neither gay nor heterosexual - the Church very wisely has never used those terms in its teaching. Our identity can not be reduced to being what our sexual desire is at a certain moment in time. We are ultimately men or women, made in the image of God - men or women! That is self evident just from looking at our bodies and the history of humanity. There is no gay gene, science has not found it. Your son, who is a man, may well have developed from an early age a sexual desire towards other men. This may have been cause by many different circumstances - like for example, the lack of a solid paternal figure in his life, or the lack of healthy male friendship, or simply personal frustration with himself which has led to eroticize other men which he sees are more accomplished - the causes are many and complex. No, the inclination in itself is not a sin, and no one in the Church judges your son for his desires. One may receive Holy Communion even if it has homosexual desires, so long as he doesn't turn them into actively sought thoughts and act upon them - just like with any other disordered desire, not just homosexual desire. Treat your son lovingly, be there for him no matter what he ends up doing. This resource can help you and your son enormously. It's called Courage and many catholic homosexual people belong to it, as well as their families and friends - https://couragerc.org And here is the witness of Daniel Mattson, one of its members: On gender: "I view my same-sex attraction as a disability [a wound], in some ways similar to blindness, or deafness, and I view it with the same hope communicated by Jesus about the man born blind: It has been allowed in my life, so that God’s work would be made manifest in me (cf. John 9:3)" David Mattson
Hi Mary, Sorry if this comes across as harsh but I think you are causing your son harm. I don't for a minute doubt that you love your son, but how can you say such a thing as to say you think he is gay. Do you not think that the very reason your son is in a dark place might be because his own mother and sisters are harbouring such ill thoughts towards him. Believe me the devil is smart,. Maybe he could not enter into your son's mind with homosexual suggestions so instead he got to him through entering the minds of his mother and sisters. I really think the reason for your son's isolation and suicidal thoughts could stem from his mother and sister not knowing who he is. That being that he is a child of God and that you should remind yourself of that and tell the devil where to go.
HI immaculate First of all myself or my daughter has never in any way raised our doubts with my son he has no way has ever had an inclination of our doubts /fears Our prayers have always been for him and we have been there for him ,even in the times he didn't want us,as I said he was in a dark place I assumed he was struggling with his own fears . I stated I suspect hes' gay not that he is as I would NEVER ask him something like that .I could be completely WRONG and have prayed I am. I have spoken my doubts to my parish priest and no way allowed ,I hope, the devil to guide my thinking
Hi Hi Padraig As I stated in my text I am not in the league of most of you intelligence wise I shared my fears with you all ,but now feel I am under attack. I have suspicions but not fact and in my own way I was trying to say that if I'm correct about my son ,he was struggling so badly with it it put him in depression ,and suicidal then it wasn't a choice he wanted. Some of the reply I have received assume he has gone down the path of and committd these acts A lot of assumption on a mothers fears/doubts I was trying to emphasis how important it is to show compassion to human beings nd above all not to judge as only God has the right to do that
MaryKelly, as a mother myself I understand. As a human being I understand. We must show compassion for all as we are all God's children formed in his image. Yes, we must reserve judgement as that is for God alone. Myself, I am compassionate to others no matter the sin, because I treat all as my brothers and sisters in Christ equally the same because I pray for all as we all have until our last breath to ask forgiveness. But we must be like the wise virgins and have our lamps ready as we do not know the hour. But, to those who know me, know my stance on different issues and tend to respect me for it.
This decision has a similar, though not as definitive, precedence. The Roman Observer, which is the official paper of the Vatican, published the most radical interpretation of Amoris Laetitia, that of the Maltese bishops. On the other hand, the paper didn't highlight the position taken by the Polish bishops, which followed the teaching of Pope St. John Paul II. It should be said that the ball is in the court of all bishops who desire the Dubia to be answered. The only logical course to be now taken on their part is the issuance and publication of a formal correction. Safe in the Barque of Peter.
Yes, David, what you are convinced of, and what most who post in this thread are convinced of, are on opposite ends of the spectrum. The most shocking spectacle that could presently take place would be for Cardinals and bishops to remain silent. The question will then be how, should, and where will Terrence Stephen Abel O'Loughlin make his stand? Safe in the Barque of Peter!
A very good Catholic source of help for parents (and in general) in understanding certain patterns of development in homosexuality and thus help in treatment is the Psychiatrist, Dr. Fitzgibbons. Excellent, basic article: Known Causes of Same-Sex Attraction Dr. Rick Fitzgibbons, a West Conshohocken psychiatrist and principal contributor to the Catholic Medical Association's book, "Homosexuality and Hope", identifies the major causes of same-sex attraction disorder (SSAD) in men and women.
