Allen Ault; The Death Penalty

    The thing that stands out to me in this interview is that the executed man apologised before his death. He was guilty, repentant and hopefully saved. I recall a Buddhist priest talking on TV about those condemned to death in Thailand. He said that he told them that they were fortunate to know the date of their deaths so that they could prepare for it rather than being taken suddenly before they had time to consider their actions and the inescapable fact of death for all, which was a spiritual aid denied to most.
    I recall a time when the death penalty was in operation in the UK and the only objection that I had (or have) is that, as our justice is imperfect innocent people were hanged (Timothy Evans for one). But if someone is clearly guilty of an horrendous crime, I have no qualms. It is a spiritual opportunity for them and a disincentive to others who would take innocent life or lives.
