I always loved this time of year with gold and copper leaves turning the paths to a patterned picture.

The Church has always encouraged us to read the Lives of the Saints. To learn of them is to want to be one. What could be better? At night times when I awaken it is lovely to pick one and go to them in Meditation at some time in their lives and simply to watch and be with them in prayer for a little time.

My favourite mediation is to sit way up in the old wooden balcony of Our Lady of grace in San Giovanni Rotundo and simply watch Padre Pio say his many, many rosaries. Padre Pio , when asked about his wonderful life said quite simply, 'I was just a Friar who liked to pray' . That's it in a nutshell , the saints are people who teach us to pray.

There is a lovely story about a child who was with her mother in Church and pointing at the stained glass windows asked her who the figures were? To which the mother replied,

    'They are the saints'.

    The puzzled girl then asked,

    '..and who were the saints?'

    TO which the mother replied,

'Ahh they were the people who let the light shine through!':):)
