Hi Misericordia . I am a bit of a sci-fi fan so have seen the movie . What exactly do you mean when you say this ...''THIS IS A PROFOUNDLY RELIGIOUS MOVIE.''
Hey Mac, first of all they are all searching for the origin of man/life. All in different ways mind you. I watched it twice, having been in the industry, it kind of fell flat the first time, but on the second I think I nderstood all the subtext, the types of people there are and what they are doing apart from putting in time. Secondly we have our heroine, her of the only pure motive....and I'm not going to ruin it by saying anymore. The director is so good I had to watch it twice to understand. Best opening scene ever.
Id be wary of thinking Director Ridley Scott has anything too add to our faith . ...`http://www.catholicworldreport.com/Blog/2751/The_Irreligiosity_of_Sir_Ridley_Scott.aspx
Mac, yes you are right but if we can't limit God, how about Genesis, being the whole universe, (which I believe works perfectly in conjunction with Michio Kaku's 'string theory'), it is still theologically sound, Eden being wherever God chose. I really think it bears watching again. Now I will read you link, but Ridley is trying to walk a very fine line here, for which I give him giant props.
OK I read your link. I agree with 3 0r 4 of the comments like;.. "Reading this article, I can't say I agree with the man's religious views, nor his of human history, but I have seen a great many of his films and will admit he is a brilliant director. This is especially in regard to the meticulous detail he puts into his films. With regard to Prometheus, I thought it had a rather positive approach to religion. The only religious character was the only one to survive, while the superficial materialistic characters (Weyland and his daughter) both had rather pathetic deaths ." The thing that makes it great for me is Ridley CARES to have the conversation. How many of our brothers and sisters don't?
Ive read quite a lot about Ridley Scott . I think one can say that he hates the Catholic Church.[like Robin Williams] Which may be his best attribute . .. ''know thy works, that thou art neither cold, nor hot. I would thou wert cold, or hot. 16But because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold, not hot, I will begin to vomit thee out of my mouth.'' Its all those in between who are the problem.
