I never knew the story behind this Clapton song. What a terrific song, but his conversion story and turn to the Holy Mother is even better. http://www.aleteia.org/en/arts-ente...lessed-mother-with-pavarotti-5802778920222720
Yes sometimes things just come along and chop us right off at the knees. Perhaps that is why we pray, 'Lead us not into temptation..' I was listening to a broadcast on the radio a few years back on down and outs from Kings Cross in London England. The reporter interviewed one gentleman who was lying under some cardboard boxes. She asked him how he had come to this and he told his story. He was in a very good job, great house and a wife and children. One day he came up from work and fire engines were outside his house. His wife and children were dead and his home burnt down. He said he tried and tired to get over this but just never could. How many of us could get over something like this? So we pray... 'Lead us not into temptation..' If we could not blame a poor soul for this and feel great pity, surely the Good God will. Poor, poor man. Poor Eric Clapton. But as Scripture says, 'God is made great in our weakness'. 2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
Apparently the Austrians HATE IT. They consider it kitch. One of the mistakes in the film was to place the song 'Eidelweiss' as Austria's national Anthem when it is not. When they tried to get the Austrian extras to sing it they didn't know the words. But I like the fact that it is the true story of a Catholic family who defied the Nazis.
One of my favorite scenes - short, sweet, and funny. But, perhaps telling that sometimes we need to not just pray, but take action
One of my favourite hymns. There was a beautiful recording on Youtube of an English choir in a church - possibly a cathedral but I can't find it now. This is the next best:
