People are disappearing in Medjugorje?

Discussion in 'Marian Apparitions' started by Maria Faustina, Sep 1, 2014.

  1. These are sad news:(... I can't but wonder why people get lost and die in Apparition Hill (Podbrdo) and in Cross Mountain (Križevac). Seven Irish pilgrims has died and the others, also priests. Terrible! There is one spot in Cross Mountain where you can get lost easily if you don't understand to follow the big stones. I walked there but found my way up the hill. Why they don't put STOP-signs there. And why nobody warn the pilgrims at Mass. Don't they have a rescue services and teams...?

In English Mass they warned about thieves. Good. One thieve almost succeeded to rob me; it was only matter of seconds, really!

Most of the links in the link below is in Croatian (?), but some in German and in English.
Hope Rino Vegar could tell us more because he lives in Mostar and speaks Croatian.

Good news:). One pilgrim was found.

Given the numbers of people climbing those hills and mountains it would be statistically unusual if there were not some deaths. It is strenuous work climbing Kricevac. 7 people dying in 14 years in Medjugorje is really not extraordinary. I the town where I live, already this week my neighbour ( who happens to be a funeral director) has got nine funerals booked.

That website that you link to by the way is very biased. It is anti Medjugorje and in two of the cases it has its facts wrong.

    With blessings and peace.

  3. Did you read the article? It says that "The search of the missing was in vain and their remains were later accidentally discovered, mostly after months or years."

It bothers me why those people were missing? What happened? Why they get lost? Many questions.
Those 7 were Irish but there have been more people missing and much later found dead. What the hotel owners did when their customers didn't show up? Why they were not found within 1-3 days? It's not just they had a heart attack while climbing the mountains, you see.

I can't believe the website you called biased is making these things out of the blue. There were many links to different newspapers. So these things have happened, right! If someone could explain this tragedy.

  5. I think you two have not get the point. People are missing! Isn't that a tragedy.
I don't want to argue about this but even "hardly an objective website" can be truthful in this case. Pro Medjugorje websites don't tell about it. Why? As I wrote before every pilgrims should be warned about the dangers getting lost. It seems nobody cares. Sad and fatal.

Those newspapers who writes about these things are either liars or they tell the truth.

I think critics of Medjugorje are looking for perfection. If they don't see perfection then they will criticise any apparent failing and capitalise on it and magnify it. Medjugorje isn't perfect, but the fruits are undeniable. I have been going to mass and praying the rosary daily since I went there. It has brought nothing but goodness into my life. Anything that is good and from God is going to attract a lot of criticism.

I'm not sure I'm understand what point is trying to be made by indicating people have gone missing or have died while on pilgrimage in Medgugorie?
I'm sure there have been deaths and other not nice things happening in other pilgrimage sites like Lourdes, Fatima, and Knock. I believe that some 30 million people have visited Medjugorie since 1981 and with those numbers, accidents, illnesses, some bad things will happen.

  8. I understand your point. We are not perfect, true. I still claim that the pilgrims should be warned. It's a matter of responsibility. Objectivity for me means that we look the good and bad alike. That's what the Vatican is doing also in every case they are studying the alleged apparitions. I do not deny the good fruits of Medjugorje but it doesn't sound good if people are blindly following something and doesn't want to hear certain "facts".
We are free to choose our path.

I think we do better not to emphasize too much apparitions (especially those which are not proved to be authentic). I think I have said enough.

There was a rash of accidental deaths last year of pilgrims who died in bus crashes on route to various approved sites. Here is one such story in the Ukraine, and another terrible accident in Italy.

I totally agree. The warning should actually a reminder that Satan causes most accidents and pilgrims should pray to St Michael and their guardian angels a lot on route to a pilgrimage, while there, and on the way home.

If you search this subject, you can find that many pilgrims have died on route or at approved sites too, proving that Satan hates those sites just as much after the Vatican approves them. We should never forget to pray for protection.

    I agree 100% :)

I remember the case of the Irish woman Winnie Brady going missing there.
    http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/body-of-medjugorje-pilgrim-identified-22659.html
When she was found months later her camera was still with her and she had taken pictures of her extremely swollen ankles.
I have never been to Medjugorje so it seemed strange to me that anyone could go missing in the midst of so many people, on such a busy hill - and then the body not be found for so long.
Maybe just the fact of having so many people who've never been up a mountain in their life, heading off alone, without water, over rugged terrain, means that there will be casualties.
Of the people listed in Maria Faustina's post, only one has never been found,
and in the reference to Winnie it was said:
Since 1981 seven other Irish people have went missing in the region – the Department of Foreign Affairs told us that.
["Sunday Mirror", Is Winnie Victim of Serial Killer?, 12 Nov 2006]

That sounds like pure tabloid journalism to me - what region was the Government department referring to - the Balkans in general or Medjugorje in particular?

Faith and reason should go hand in hand, as St Thomas Aquinas, the doctor of the Church stated, and we should always use precaution and a good dose of common sense when visiting shrines, or travelling to apparition sites.

Take your time, plan carefully, don't lose your head expecting miracles to happen to *you*, don't push above your limits. Always travel with someone, always be in contact, respect road signs, don't stray away. Our goal there is to connect to people like us, and through them to God — not the other way round!

Apparitions of Our Blessed Mother almost always happen in some hard to reach, outback places (as stated in Revelation 12:6, ".. and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God").

Today's city people used to commute with trains and trams and stroll down the paved walkways, have a hard time and will face major challenges in wilderness of Medjugorje or Garabandal. They are not fit for it, especially in hot summer days.

Also remember that shrines and apparition sites attract both good and bad. Our Blessed Mother of Medjugorje said once to seers that wherever She is, Satan is also near, and the evil one will do anything to stop Her in Her mission, will create distractions and incidents, in order to spread lies, doubts and steer the flock away. Be mindful of that, and be cautious for Our Mother's sake. There will be thieves, criminals too, who will try to fool people into their ruin. Take good care of your possessions, be watchful, and don't hesitate to warn others if you suspect they could do something foolish or see something odd happening.

I go to Medjugorje every year, but I am fully aware (especially since last year) that there are those who go to "prey" rather than to pray. It's good to have your wits about you. Other than that I can't fault the place(y)

My husband and I are avid hikers....we hike a different National Park every year. This year, the trail we were on was not well marked and our map was useless. There were no hikers around. We didn't have the right amount of water for the extended hike (5 extra steep miles along the sun exposed outer ridge) and it was 90 degrees. I developed Heat Stroke. Thankfully, a fellow hiker came along and shared his water with me as I was passing out....(God instance)....he was French....God love him! My point is, these things happen all the time. When we left the mountain there were signs that said "hundreds of hikers die in our National Parks every year, don't let it be YOU!" " Plan your hike, Be Smart!" That said, Yosemite National Park has some of the worst marked trails of any National Park I have been in....but God was always my GPS and I prayed so hard when I was getting dizzy and passing out and numb all over.

I think sometimes, we get excited about our journey and forget to pack the essentials....this is a lesson for me for the Storm....little lessons, thank you God and Mary!

I walked up and down Masada in Israel. The temp was 45 c. I got heat stroke. A lovely Israeli female arm captain..a Doctor came along and treated me..with guess what coca cola!!

A real angel, but it was very painful, dreadful. I sympathise. A German tourist died of the heat while I was there at the Dead Sea, poor woman.

Hot, hot, hot. Real desert. How did Jesus stick it?

View attachment 2240 Here is a photo of my husband and I at the top of the mountain....we got dropped off to hike down. Little did we know in 6 hours we would be terribly lost, out of water and near death....literally. Then our French angel came along with "cold" water, one full quart for us to share. God is so good! I often say, this might have been the last photo of us if not for him!

  18. God sends angels in human forms. I mean they are REAL angels! Usually you noticed it only afterwards. Have experienced.

I was in Medjugorje when this happened to the Scottish pilgrim, although I was not part of her group. She was part of a large group with guides who climbed Apparition Hill last Friday. I passed the group on my way down the hill. Apparently the lady had sat down for a rest and told her 13 year old grandson (who had learning difficulties) she would catch up with them. Unfortunately she didn't veer to the right for Apparition Hill but continued straight on. There were approx 4 guides with the group and normally 1 will lead, 1 will be in middle and 1 will remain at the end with any stragglers. I don't know exactly what happened but I know that when I passed 3 of their guides offered me first aid as I had just fallen over a rock into a thorn bush. I had been distracted by my phone ringing and trying to turn it off as I approached them so not to disturb them. I refused their first aid as I was not part of their group. I also heard that one of their group fell & cut her head so 2 of the guides took her down from the hill which would have reduced the number of guides.
Unfortunately, the woman's disappearance was not discovered until the group assembled for their evening meal & someone asked the grandson where his gran was & he stated she had not returned from the hill. The time was approx 4.30/5 pm. I had passed the group around 7/7.30 am. The alarm was raised immediately. I had gone to the Blue Cross that evening for Ivan's apparition & we heard the lady's name being shouted on the hill but we later we discovered she was missing. Mountain Rescue, group guides, priests & pilgrims within the group searched continuously for the woman over the next few days & nights. The pain was etched on the faces of the priests & guides. Everyone in Medjugorje was praying for a safe return. It was a miracle she was found alive on Sunday morning at 9.45am. It was announced at the English Mass at noon & it was a Mass of celebration. She was severely dehydrated but not distressed when she was found and was still walking. She did hear her name being called by searchers but thought she was hallucinating. She was taken to hospital but was able to travel back with her group on Wednesday. I have no doubt Our Lady took care of her & watched over her. I would love to hear her story.
Obviously there will be lessons to be learned from this both from the tour firm & parish involved but I would like to tell you some good news. A lady who travelled with the group had recently lost her 13 year old son to cancer. She & her friends were selling wrist bands for his charity. They raised £900 which increased to £1400 the day before their departure and was donated to the Mountain rescue services who had searched for the elderly woman. The Scottish priest who organised the trip has a monthly Medjugorje Mass & he announced that at the the next one a collection will be taken up for the Mountain rescue in Medjugorje. (Apparently the cost for the search was £1500)

Wow that is a beautiful testimony of what really happened! Thank you Carfin! Truly Our Lady intervened for this soul...and I love the story of the money given for rescue.
