This had to be one of the most dreadful things I have ever witnessed in the history of Massachusetts.
The wildfires in Dalmatia are terrible right now. There are usually major fires there during the summer because it’s the coast, with rugged terrain, rocks, and dry vegetation that arsonists set on fire. But what happened yesterday in Omiš was terrifying, because the four Canadairs (water-bombing aircraft) couldn’t fly at night. More than 100 vehicles still weren’t enough, and the city is right by the sea, with an entire hill above it burning and the fire spreading into the city. There were more than 200 hotspots. This year has been particularly difficult. First, there was the attack on Iran, which led to the entire Strait of Hormuz being closed, and we will only feel the economic consequences once the oil reserves run dry. The entire Middle East is unstable, the wildfires have ravaged Europe this year and are still ongoing, and now earthquakes have shaken Colombia and Venezuela. There’s no need to spread defeatism and pessimism. Historically, we have experienced wars and devastating natural disasters, and in the end, things always somehow turn around. Still, everyone has the feeling that something is brewing beyond the horizon.
