Fugger remained faithful to the Catholic religion. He did not finance the protestant reformation. He was the Pope's banker. He loaned money to Cardinal Albrecht of Mainz & Brandenberg. In order to repay the debt Albrecht promoted indulgences in Saxony which Luther objected to & led to his revolt. Cardinal Albrecht (and by connection Fugger) unintentionally sparked the protestant reformation.
The Church neeeds to address today two existential problems for humanity, usury and the Jews. The world is in an economic mess because of usury. The Church needs to enforce its traditional stance on usury. The Church needs to recognise that Catholic Jewish dialogue has failed and uphold the traditional teaching that Jews need to be baptised to be saved.
