Yeah, Jesus laid out the spiritual physics and territory for us. We have huge responsibilities to keep clean hearted and light eyed. Our Lady is the prime example of this and she encourages us to love and pray constantly. This how we conquer the world, this is how the first Christians did it.
Matthew 24:7 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. Mark 13:8 8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pain Luke 21:11 11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
I think the middle states are getting more of our severe weather this year. We haven't had a whole lot of scary storms here in TX this spring. I'm grateful for that, as it is a great source of anxiety for me and my son...and we are dealing with a lot of health issues these last few months already.
I have found when things get a little rough an extra period of prayer a rosary or two but especially longer periods of prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament to be the greatest help. But also in times of storm it kind of takes a while to find my sea legs, to spiritually adapt so to speak, To reach deeper peace and calm and joy. I suppose this is only natural for us poor sinners. One thing causes loss of peace a lot and that is to worry too much a bout the future. To battle imaginary dragons that have not happened and may never happen.

Someone wrote that we must be strict with ourselves and merciful to others. But a little comapssion towards ourselves is a good thing when times get hard. ..and there will always be storms we can count on it. Life being what it is.
I find myself being strict with the workmen doing my driveway and compassionate towards myself at the moment.
I was always terrified of storms growing up, especially tornadoes. I would be the first one in the basement! Even if I just saw one dark cloud. What cured me of my fear? I became a ham radio operator and got involved in emergency services as a hobby. Take a class in weather spotting and take your son with you. The classes are free and offered by the National weather service. They are so interesting! You learn what to look for, how to gage wind speeds , what conditions precede tornadoes etc. Now I am outside studying the sky etc, no longer fearful and hiding in the basement. It’s no longer fear of the unknown. I don’t know how old your son is, but kids become very interested in ham radio. There is an 11 year old in our club, his grandpa got him involved. He is licensed and has his own radio. The ham classes are free. It does cost for a license, you take classes and pass a test, but the license is not that expensive. Ham radio operates on a special frequency and are a part of our national defense. They are always asking for weather spotters and when you get your warnings, it comes from weather spotters. See, I am chatty today!
You know, I always loved storms and was never afraid of tornadoes until I moved out here in the country to a modular home. We are strapped to concrete runners, but I don't imagine our house has any real chance of holding up against a tornado. If we had a basement, that would be amazing!
When I lived in southern Alabama they couldn’t have basements because of the high water table. But you could get these shelter things that go in the floor of the garage, they weren’t that expensive. When using the garage you drive over the entrance. When using as a shelter you take the car out. You let your local fire dept know you have one.
Years ago my husband said he would put a septic tank in the back yard for me to crawl into! Ha! He doesn’t understand the fear. But I do see Amazon has a safe room for sale. Bet my husband could build one of those… makes you wonder when people survive tornadoes hunkering down in bathtubs.
This is a great suggestion. My grandson also has a great interest in ham radio, and got his license a couple of years ago. He has developed some great friendships through this wonderful hobby. My grandfather was a ham radio operator for many years, he also had a great interest in weather. He had a massive antenna set up on a telephone pole in his backyard and enjoyed talking with people from all over the world. Ham radios fell out of popularity over the years, but it's making a come back. If we ever had a catastrophic grid failure and everything went down ham radios would be invaluable.
