At the beginning of March, Geralyn and I booked a flight for us to journey from Syracuse, NY, to Houston, TX, (and back) to visit our son, Christopher, and his family. the cost was an ouch:$600. :Tonight we checked the price for the same itinerary, a mere 15 days later. Anyone booking tonight, it would be $852!!o_O:eek::sick:.

Dear President Trump, if Ger and I purchased the same tickets tonight, would you send us a refund check of $250?

Lord have Mercy! Inflation now running wild, but most citizens are still clueless. But consider all the death and destruction and hatred that have been enkindled!!:cry:

Airlines are notorious for raising rates the closer the date gets to a flight.

I don't think you have your thinking cap on. Yes, I'm quite aware of how airlines function which is why we book early. But a $250 increase on a $600 ticket in 2 weeks when we're still 75 days out?

No, this sharp uptick is a result of the crisis for which our President here in the States bears much responsibility. Unless a miraculous turnaround occurs, the Republicans will suffer greatly at the polls this fall; at least in the Senate and House of Representatives.:(

But I must say that my grief over the widespread death and destruction is far greater than our soon-to-be inflation woes!

I’m not sure why but you can get the best deal (domestically) about five weeks out.

I filled up my tank a few days ago, it was 90 euros, usually it is 70. I feel especially sorry for country people who in the nature of things have to travel a good bit.

But here is Spain the weather is so good. No worry about heating for much of the year. But it will be hard on people with harsh winters.

All this is only getting started though; prayers.

Ah, here we are on Saint Patrick's feast day getting hammered with close to another foot of snow with more on the way. At this point all I can say, "Sigh". Unfortunately there has been a multi-vehicle pileup on Interstate 81.:(

Wow, more snow! It's wild over here in Colorado we have hardly seen any snow this winter. We are projected to hit very high 80's (°F) this week maybe 90°. Snow pack is lowest on record I believe.

I booked a round trip flight to Australia a month ago. I thought about waiting to see if prices dropped closer to my scheduled departure June 12, but I’m very glad I didn’t wait.

The round trip flight to Brisbane on June 12 and returning on July 10 was only $1200, to my pleasant surprise.

(I upgraded my economy class seating for each of the three legs out and back so I could have the front center aisle seat for the most legroom possible which increased the total cost to $1700, but if I’m going to spend 28 hours traveling to get there I figured it was worth the investment.)

How exciting! Definitely worth the extra for leg room. Where are you flying through?

My younger daughter, Therese, and her family of 6, live in Denver! We visited them about 6 months ago. They belong to a large and wonderful parish!

I’m flying Air Canada. The flight leaves DC June 12 (Bombardier CRJ900) and has a transfer in Ottawa (Airbus 321) then one in Vancouver (Boeing 787) then arrives in Brisbane Australia 28 hours(!) later. The return trip leaves Brisbane July 10 and stops for a transfer in Vancouver and another in Toronto then arrives in DC 24 hours later.

Since these are such long trips I opted to pay a little extra for the forward economy bulkhead seat on the aisle for on each leg out then back, since those seats offer the best economy class leg room.

A friend there said if I could get there he’d put me up and feed me the entire time I’m there. I’ve only been outside the States three times, and those were medical missionary trips to Haiti in the mid 1990ss. So this is my first real international trip.

My friend is a certified gyroglider instructor there and will be taking me through his entire course during my stay. We might also be able to schedule some certified powered dual gyroplane instruction while I’m there too.

Because it’s done at his club and the currency exchange rate it is less than half the cost per hour as it is here in the States, and can be counted against the number of logged hours of gyroplane flight instruction I need to complete my sport pilot certificate here.

We’ll visit his mom for three days when I get there to rest up from jet lag prior to starting his training course. She lives on the northeast corner of Staddie Island, a barrier island off the east coast of Brisbane, a block off the beach on the South Pacific Ocean.

    Thanks!

I’ve done cross country journeys thrice now. I drove from Maine to Southern California and back in 2019, traveling 12,500 miles over ten weeks, camping all the way in my van. I figured that was my bucket list trip I’d never have the opportunity to repeat.

Then two years ago I rode my Honda Silverwing 600 from here in northern Virginia to the Florida Everglades and back, 3,000 miles over 17 days. I thought at that time that would be my final bucket list trip lol!

Then in September I left here and drove to Portland Oregon, down the west coast to southern California, then across the south and back home, 8,500 miles over 30 days. Surely I thought, that’s the last bucket list trip I get before I leave this mortal coil - or societal collapse prevents another.

Now I’m heading to Australia for a month.

I’m as excited as a kid waiting to open his presents on Christmas morning.

God is good and full of surprises. Given my health history and being a hemiplegic following strokes ten years ago, I never should have been able to take these solo journeys. But as I’ve mentioned many times, I had a miraculous recovery which has permitted these incredible journeys, and more.
