Does anyone know about this class of Orthodox monks? They seem to have a mournful aspect to their garments, which even comes across as somewhat somber.
We've lost SO much! We abandoned Latin, the Gregorian... We are now 'rocking' to "We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord.." "We have lost our boats behind..." "Come as you are..." The Orthodox Church claim they are the original Church and Catholics broke away........... I'm fully Catholic, frequent mass and the confessional.....the mass I go to tomorrow is a 17-minute 'quickie'...in a parish 30 minutes away (my parish has no Eucharistic adoration, First Fridays, Divine mercy Sunday, etc)...... WE HAVE "LOST THE PLOT' so to speak. My PP is 'cutting down' on masses because so few come! I know Catholics who attend Orthodox Churches only [not available here]. Some here [North NSW Australia] travel 200km to a Latin mass (oft SSPX) or only participate in a Latin mass 'on line' - they're not allowed in this diocese!!! "In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph".... "Come, Holy Spirit..." Sorry, I digress, think 'memories-out-loud" - I love the music! It 'lifts the spirit' to God (more than "We are one in the Spirit.. "). It's Tradition or annihilation, as someone said. Pray for 'The Triumph'!
Mahalia Jackson in concert 1964 part 1 Just a Closer Walk with Thee I love a wee bit of Gospel now and again - hard to beat Mahalia Jackson, what a voice!
Nobody can sing those heartfelt spirituals like the Afro-Americans. God must really appreciate their songs 'from the heart'!
Something different: Psalm 51 (or 50) The Magnificat in Aramaic & English - as heartfelt as Mahalia! The language hardly matters - God created music!
Did any of you ever listen to Andre Rieu? I know he's not for everyone but he is massively popular in the Low Countries and it is very touching the way his music moves people:
