Why would he show up, isn't he excommunicated?

I don't see it as a good sign.

    To put it mildly .

I was never a big fan of Vigano, but he was the number one opponent of Papa Frankie and all the dreadful things he got up to. Now with this new start the very first thing that happens is that they move to crush Vigano at lightening speed .

    Like I say, not good.

    Who's next?

Vigano is an ally of Trump. I believe that wouldn't be good for the Vatican's relationship with the U.S. government.

Well, I might sound like a computerized pet parrot repeating this, but as I mentioned earlier, Francis appointed Prevost as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops on January 30, 2023, the eve of Saint John Bosco’s feast day. :):):)

I'm glad Vigano is being summoned. He's gone too far and needs to come back into the fold. Pope Leo wants unity within the Church, and I agree with him. We don't need disobedient bishops placing themselves outside of the Church and constantly issuing angry statements and teaching as if they're some kind of counter-voice to the pope. My hope is that Pope Leo wants to work through this with Vigano and unity will be achieved. Christ wants unity. He prayed to His Father for us all to be one, and that's Pope Leo's motto, too. That we all be One in Christ.

  8. For me too... one of the reasons that I don't have my head in the clouds at the moment. There is much for him to do and undo for me to trust in any way.
    I pray for him everyday.

I believe Prevost was elected with the aim of smoothing over potential schisms within the Catholic Church. However, as I mentioned earlier, if he punishes Viganò, he will likely face problems with the Trump administration, in my opinion. That would end up legitimizing the accusations Bannon has made against him, which are certain to grow and cause perplexity among some MAGA voters. I must admit, however, that the mention of Francis’s spiritual presence at the Inauguration Mass disturbed me a bit, as I don’t believe purgatory is a concept that offends anyone’s memory.

Well I hope Vigano can come back into the Church, regardless. Hopefully Pope Leo can draw him back.

  18. So just to be clear...
This story was from last year.

I think it is important to not look for any little slip-up that this Pope may make, or read much more into each of his words or actions than is reasonable.

It is like people want to be the first to criticize him, as some badge of honor.

    Detraction is a sin.

As Catholics the Catechism teaches us that we are to interpret people's actions in the best possible light. The responsibility to do so when we are dealing with the Pope is even greater. And the sin of detraction is all the more serious when it is the Pope.

  19. From the CCC:

2477 Respect for the reputation of persons forbids every attitude and word likely to cause them unjust injury. 278 He becomes guilty:

    - of rash judgment who, even tacitly, assumes as true, without sufficient foundation, the moral fault of a neighbor;

    - of detraction who, without objectively valid reason, discloses another's faults and failings to persons who did not know them; 279

    - of calumny who, by remarks contrary to the truth, harms the reputation of others and gives occasion for false judgments concerning them.

2478 To avoid rash judgment, everyone should be careful to interpret insofar as possible his neighbor's thoughts, words, and deeds in a favorable way:

    AND:

2487 Every offense committed against justice and truth entails the duty of reparation, even if its author has been forgiven. When it is impossible publicly to make reparation for a wrong, it must be made secretly. If someone who has suffered harm cannot be directly compensated, he must be given moral satisfaction in the name of charity. This duty of reparation also concerns offenses against another's reputation. This reparation, moral and sometimes material, must be evaluated in terms of the extent of the damage inflicted. It obliges in conscience.
