My co-workers in New York couldn't see it well due to cloud cover. Great view here in Ohio. This was an amazing treat to watch. God is great!
It was truly awesome. I felt drawn to the first chapter of John. I kept thinking of the words that the darkness cannot overcome the Light. Jesus truly is the Light of the World.
Thank you Mary Rose and all who prayed for us on the forum. I also recommended you all to Jesus on the Altar at mass .
The eclipse is just one more proof for me of the genius of our creator God. Solar eclipses occur because the moon is 400 times smaller than the sun but 400 times closer to Earth. So the sun and moon appear the same size in our sky. Praise God.
I am envious of those of you that saw the eclipse. The doom warnings did not happen. Nevertheless it all certainly looks like a Sign.
It was awesome and weird at the same time. The front of our house faces east, so we were of course looking up to the west with our "glasses" on to see the wonder. Right after the full effect for our area, we went back inside. The difference in the sky to the east when we turned to go back to the front of the house was creepy. Eerie as someone else said.....Once inside, with the bright light coming in the back windows and the eerie darkness from the front, it reminded me of what it's like just before a big thunderstorm rolls overhead.....Scary but beautiful.
Our Lord's lamp and Our Lady's lamp ( from the children of Fatima) The moon goes in front of the sun surrounded by a golden corona from the sun. So it came to me-- because I am fanciful--that this Our Lady's time by God's gracious Will. She will shine ever more brightly i n this dark age.
Another sign that coincidence is not in the vocabulary of our God. And yet I am tempted to question His Providential Care at times! Mea culpa! Psalm 19:The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. 3 They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. 4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.
We were in 90 percent totality. It became darker. The darkness was not like the usual darkness. (Such as twilight) It had a different character to it. It did tend toward being eerie
Sigh I hope to see something like that before I die. Wonderful How small we all are, how huge the Universe
I think this is the first time on MOG that I have ever responded to myself! But I have to give the homily this coming weekend: This line from the Gospel jumped out at me, speaking of the Apostles: ...they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed! Have you ever been incredulous with joy? If we backtrack a little, in the Gospel on Easter Sunday, we had Mary Magdalen running back to Peter and John: "The tomb is empty!" John beats Peter in the race to the tomb, but they too can confirm that the tomb was empty. Then last Sunday's Gospel includes two visitations of the Risen Lord (it's so fun to be Catholic!): Easter night when the Risen Lord appears to the Eleven and empowers the Apostles to be conduits of His Mercy (Whose sins you forgive they are forgiven them!). And how many times have we been the beneficiaries of that! So when you or I fall short of the mark (as we have done and will unfortunately do some more), we have recourse to God's Mercy through the Sacrament of Reconciliation- though filled with contrition, we hear those precious words, "I absolve you from your sins in the Name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen!" And then, of course, last week we heard the story of Thomas' examining Christ's wounds and his own precious response: "My Lord and my God." This Jesus is Our Lord and our God, too! And today we come to the next Resurrection story which draws us back to the very first Easter Sunday. What's happening? Well, just before, the two disciples who encountered Jesus on the road to Emmaus, who shared a meal with Him and recognized Him in the breaking of the Bread, in their joyous excitement, run all the way back to Jerusalem to share their good news with the Apostles! And in today's Gospel the Lord appears perhaps while the two tired disciples are still there (though not mentioned); Jesus confirms the truth that He is risen, that He lives forever to make intercession for us, that He loves us and cares for us so we can place our total trust in Him! The Resurrection is a tenet of our Faith, but more importantly it remains a living reality today. And a promise for all of us who remain faithful! Alleluia?...Alleluia! This past Monday I hope many of you took the opportunity to view the solar eclipse. It was really something. You could even go on line. Newscasters were placed in various locations along the route of the eclipse. If you stayed with the programing, you watched and saw: the reaction was universal at each location: growing anticipation, growing excitement.. we were told the marvel of how this small moon could block out the sun: for though the sun is 400x times larger than the moon, the fact that the sun is 400x further away form the earth than the moon, makes total eclipses possible. Mind-boggling! And so cheers and exclamations went up and there was clapping for those few minutes when we could view the marvelous display. It would have been wonderful if it could have lasted longer! As Ps 19 proclaims: The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. 3 They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. 4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. Wasn't it great for those of us who witnessed it! I must personally admit, it still doesn't compare to the awe I experienced the first time I held each of my children!! So precious, so fragile, so dependent! When was your moment of incredulous joy...Yet the truth of Christ risen from the grave reveals an even greater and still more glorious reality that awaits we who remain faithful: an eternity in the presence of the Holy Trinity, in the presence not of the sun, but of the Son of God, Who shed His Blood for you and me! May it be so for each one of us! May we never lose sight of this goal. Amen!
You and your post remind me so much of Scott hahn Terry. So much infectious joy and eagerness I wonder if you know why Jesus said to Mary Magdalene not to touch her as He was ascending to His Father He also mentioned thus somewhere else
I have found this with the people that I loved and died, like my parents, that I never really got to know then until after they died, nor were they ever closer . But I had to let them go before I found them again. I had to stop clinging to them . Loosing them to find them in a much better way
I would say I am much closer now to all my dead loved ones now than when they were alive. But a love much less selfish
