Reading that statement, it would be logical to conclude that illness and death do not exist. Neither did the Russian Revolution nor the Second World War occur.

Additionally, that final statement in bold by Cecchin is self-contradictory. Our Lady might very well not want to see her children punished, but it is God who will send them. So his reasoning, not the threat of God's punishments, is what is absolutely false.

I am still on page 28 of this thread it is moving fast! Just a thought which occurred to me. I remember when the Iraq invasion was being planned by the US. In fact the US military was on the brink of their 'shock and awe' bombing of Iraq. At that time Saddam Hussein was issueing threats of increasing proportions. He was apoplectic with rage against the US, quite understandably I suppose. I remember Saddam threatening to unleash the 'mother of all wars' if the USA invaded. But what in particular struck me was that he issued a specific threat regarding the presence in situ of an army of sleeper cells across the West, an army at his command which would initiate suicide bombings and the like. Saddam quoted a figure of 50,000 suicide jihadis ready to be unleashed, if the US invaded Iraq. I guess the US called his bluff and went in with shock-and-awe, and this threat never materialised to the extent that Saddam had threatened. But given the scale of the migrations which have taken place since then, I hope and pray that such a tactic does not come to pass.

This is the summary of their thinking, the revenge that runs in their veins and where they have no authority to which they must obey unlike us to whom God is the moral authority. All the more reason to pray for them. Simplistic as it sounds, miracles are possible and that is what has me started on praying for Israel - which I've never done before, never felt called to until now. This latest offensive into Gaza - as you said - is fed by the flames of revenge. Only this time, at the heart of it is the massacre of Oct 7. Of men and women, young and old. Babies. Even I, in their place, would find it next to impossible to turn the other cheek - which is why it is so important for saner minds to pray this wounded nation away from the precipice - because they are likely not able to do this for themselves.

If our anger and contempt for the Israelis hold us back from going heart and soul to God for them, then we're no better than them.

 

But even from a Jewish religious perspective, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth', meant just that. One eye for one eye and one tooth for one tooth. It in Justice limited people in seeking Justice to only taking back what was taken.

In this case it is not an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth it is many , many, many eyes and many, many , many teeth.

I recall one time talking to an Orthodox Jewish guy in Jerusalem called Avram and he told me that the idea of forgiveness was not in their religious tradition and he envied us Christians for this.

All the same there have been numerous instances of forgiveness amongst Jews both in this instance and down the generations.

Amen. Mahatma Gandhi said: "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". Our Lord Jesus Christ said: "Blessed are the Peace-makers, for they shall be called Children of God". If violence only leads to more violence, then the vicious cycle of violence will never end. While a limited Just War conducted on strict Just War Moral Principles can be justified when one is attacked, one must love Peace, make Peace when possible, not attack civilians, bomb hospitals, churches, UN buildings, schools etc. What Israel is doing is not conducive to Peace but rather will create lasting hatred that will last generations. Unless God has Mercy, and the world really begins to live and practice the Moral Teachings of Jesus Christ on love and forgiveness, things will not change. Jesus Christ commands us to love our enemies, pray for those who persecute us, to forgive and strive to build bridges and Peace. Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace, and only His Doctrine and His Teaching is the Solution to what's going on. It's time for Christians and Christian and Christian Majority Nations to explicitly present Him and His Teaching as the Solution to the world's problems including to stop the War and restore Peace.
