Recall that in the event of Nukes being used Radioactivity levels go down really, really fast. You'll probably need to hide out for only about 24 hours or so. If you have taken the tablets.

in the case of electromagnetic pulse attacks does nuclear detonation at high altitudes cause radiation to contaminate the atmosphere causing radioactive fallout later?

Good for you Jack. So wise. You may not need it but its prudent to think ahead.

Maryrose i have bought bags of peas and lentils along with rice and oatmeal. Also lots of bouillon for flavoring. Garlic and herb seasonings too. I have cornmeal too and extra bags of sugar and flower. Oil and yeast. Cinnamon and nutmeg. Having a water source is important. Years ago before a terrible ice storm I had gathered several gallons of spring water.
It was really helpful to have when we lost power. Jars and cans of meat and fish. Just some suggestions. Also various meds both RX and over the counter. Lots of soups.(y)

Thanks for the suggestions. Today I got tins of chick peas., cannoloni and kidney beans. I got several bottles of oil and gravy granules. I also got chocolates and Christmas puddings, soy sauce and packs of stir fry sauce. I'm checking best before. Must be at least 2024. I plan to get soup packs tomorrow.

Same here. I am thinking ahead to sharing with them when the spit hits the fan if it does hit the fan. One thing about stockpiling you can always use it even if there never is the emergency.

Am I a “bad” person for hoping I don’t live through it?

A hard question, but not wishing to live through terrible misery is hardly sinful; indeed, it seems perfectly reasonable. I suppose we must make a distinction between those who hope to avoid this appalling circumstance, but are prepared to accept whatever comes their way and those who actively take their own lives. We might wish The Lord to take this cup from our lips, but reluctantly drink from it, if it be His will.

I think I'd be hoping for a direct hit upon us all, terrible as it is to say!

It’s those of us here in Florida, who will suffer the radiation. So, I agree with you.

In the atmosphere, yes. And it would slowly disperse and eventually fall out.

Radiation on the ground would be minimal at the site of attack. But the effects would be catastrophic.

Most domestic water supplies depend on electric powered pumps.

No electricity, no fuel delivery. No fuels, complete breakdown of just in time delivery of groceries and everything else.

Even if cars are well shielded enough today to prevent electronic interference from the motor from affecting stereos systems and cell phones, and thus might survive EMP better than previous generations of cars, they won’t run without gas.

The fuel currently in gas station underground tanks will be gone in a day or two, if it can even be pumped out of the underground tanks by hand.

Complete societal breakdown in one to two weeks at most, mass deaths not long after.

They used to call it "blasting us back to the stone age"....
We have as a culture worshiped technology. Losing it completely is the punishment fitting the crime. Life will be hard. Very hard. communities will have to pull together to sustain each other and share. Or rip each other to shreds. I am NOT looking forward to it.

It's a very short distance from civilisation to complete barbarism. Those in the United States would be well-advised to keep your guns clean and well-oiled, and your powder dry. In the event of a complete collapse of law and order, in most of the rest of the world only the criminals have guns. In barbarism, only might is right. Without the means to defend them, those in possession of the necessities of life will find that they will be robbed from them, probably along with their lives.

And it will. The book “One Second After” is a good read in this regard, but I don’t think today’s cars will be as adversely affected as he describes.

Self defense which takes the life of the aggressor is obviously permitted.

It would be a hard choice to use guns to take human life just to defend preps. For me at least. Yes, the argument can be made that by defending stored goods, we are defending our very lives. And I could do it and do it effectively. I have the necessary equipment, training and ability; I’m very good with these tools. I just don’t know if I would now that I live alone.

I suppose that you all think that this seer is trustworthy or the discussion would be over before it began. Prayers going up.

I don’t necessarily think this seer is trustworthy! (I disregard any modern “mystics” now not yet approved by the Church. Including Medjugorje. It makes life a LOT easier for me and helps me keep my sanity and peace!)

But this subsequent discussion is worth having.
