The Russians today announced that they are scaling back operations and will concentrate forces on those areas to the east that they already held or were held on their behalf by Russian speakers. Looks like they are 'consolidating' rather than trying to take the whole country. But then Our Lady did tell Josyp Terelya that when Ukrainian independence came, no enemy would defeat them.

Are the faithful are supposed to do the First Saturday devotion after the consecration as part of the deal? If so, peace would be at least 5 months away.

Then again, maybe they two aren't tied together as a do this first, and then do that, type of devotion. I'm sure somebody here knows the answer.

I hope so too. I'm sure the Lord will honour their good intentions. I went to our parish church to unite my prayers with the Holy Father. There was one other person in the church. I waited to pray the Angelus at 6. Today we celebrate the day the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. Maybe the Bishop of Galway decided to pay tribute to Our Lady's fiat by opening the ceremony with the Angelus.

Many people have been doing the First Saturdays since Our Lady appeared at Fatima. There are good reasons to continue the devotion, not least Our Lady's promise to assist us at the hour of our death.

I apologized, I’m no expert but Catholics who knew about the first five Saturday's have been doing them all along. For those that are new to this part of Our Lady’s request, please do them now…it’s never too late for everyone to start them. It can only help…especially for your soul for the graces derived from honoring her request!
If you’ve done them, do them again in reparation for a loved, lost soul….and for our lady. Great graces !

We had a packed cathedral today! It was wonderful. Only...the devil tripped me on my way in. I was walking up the side aisle leading my family to find a seat, and there was a random kneeler lying across the entire aisle that I didn't see. I tripped over it, pulled an entire empty pew down with me, and made the loudest crash through the whole church. I ended up on my hands and knees with the entire crowd staring at me and two big blue bumps on my shin to show for it. Penance! :ROFLMAO:

Now you can look forward to the Lord rewarding you for bearing that little cross of pain and humiliation.

Awwww that is awful! I’m so sorry PF! And you’re so right, it was a penance that must have been very hard. I can just see that happening to me. I’ll be leaving soon for our cathedral….I’m going to watch every blessed step….I’m inclined to fall as it is

Our Church was also packed - as much as a Sunday Mass- for the noon Mass. Our priest provided a wonderful homily on the Blessed Mother and this feast day… of Mary’s yes in God’s plan of salvation. At the end of Mass, he led us in the prayer and the Consecration. It was quite moving…..no one left Mass.

I then was able to watch the ceremony from Rome. I thought it was again quite moving and very important to see confession being offered and described. I hope many Catholics and others learned or perhaps relearned the importance and grace of this sacrament.

For those who follow the message and apparition of Medugorie, our Lady’s message today was very powerful:

“Dear children! I am listening to your cry and prayers for peace. For years, Satan has been fighting for war. That is why God sent me among you to guide you on the way of holiness, because humanity is at a crossroad. I am calling you to return to God and to God's Commandments that it may be good for you on earth, and that you may come out of this crisis into which you have entered because you are not listening to God who loves you and desires to save you and lead you to a new life. Thank you for having responded to my call. “

Something to consider: I was watching LifeSite News coverage. They had a guest on who covered what happened in Portugal AFTER the apparition. Apparently, after 3 or 4 years of waiting on the Vatican, the lead bishop in Portugal got all of his fellow bishops to do their own consecration of Portugal to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Within 8 years a Catholic politician (a real one) was elected to lead the country (which had for years been governed by Masons); Catholic youth groups sprang up and became the norm for kids in the country; there was a 400% (!) increase in the number of seminarians and Portugal became an exporter of priests; the country flourished economically (even during the worldwide Great Depression); and Portugal remained completely out of WW2.

Now compare that with what happened to Spain during the same time period.

EDIT: Now I have to wonder what would happen if just a state in the US would have all of its bishops together consecrate that state to the Immaculate Heart. I'm not sure there are enough bishops in any one state who have the faith to just give it a try. Maybe start out with Maryland ...

Krizevac, Yes, it was incredibly moving.

The little boy and girl were adorable and Pope Francis did a lovely job, he looked very moved too imho.

All of our concerns seemed to melt away, thankfully.

I'm praying that the Ukrainians, the Russians and all of humanity see the fruits of the consecration very soon.+

PurpleFlower, Good question. I would bet that Newt Gingrich did, I met him at the National Shrine several years ago. He was very nice, extremely approachable.

Maryland has one Bishop. Bishop Lori. Some of the counties in Maryland are in the Archdiocese of Washington, Cardinal Wilton Gregory.
    That’s all.
