I don't really suffer from it myself Beth.

If you really believe in what you are doing it is a privledge to serve.

There is ia very good relationship to a soldiers duty and the Cross which is the center of the soldiers and the Christian life.

Jesus laid down his life for the Salvation of many.

The good Soldier does the same.

Which is what I meant by the fact that soldiers are to be judged differently.

They lay it all out on the line.

By this I mean good soldiers.

Soldiers who do what they do from duty, which is to say from love.

Yes Beth, but have you ever considered that the idea that you are in the hope of replacing something totally evil with something good through your Democratic institutions is itself an Illusion?

I mean at the moment, i suppose you mean by Trump?

But from all my understanding of the man he is totally corrupt himself. I don't mean to make you loose hope. But honestly if Trump is all you've got to go on..

He is not part of the Establishment corruption, I agree.##

But he is enough personally corrupt , that I am not sure how that would make the least bit of difference.

I understand your service to your country was motivated by the pure desire for the good…I believe most of our respective free nations are driven by the love for God and country. Im feeling very sad now that some reports coming out in the media of late suggest that SOME of the top military brass in the US were motivated by their own personal interest and this is very distressing .

I don’t believe that this whole Afghanistan disaster will just be just a isolated incident. I believe that this is the catalyst for a chain of international events triggering even greater conflicts for the USA. The fallout will be worldwide.
Perhaps this the shoe we’ve all been expecting to drop….the coming of events that will change the world….and not in a good way. Gods Permissive will…..?

Padraig, I bet you remember that I was personally opposed to Trump based solely on his personal conduct. I really did not believe that he would lead our country in a moral way as this was my top criteria for any candidate, then and now.
I voted for him because compared to hillary Clinton, there was absolutely no comparison.

Trump surprised me after he was elected. He is considered the most Prolife president in our history.
He promoted God in our country and pushed back dramatically on the left. I could go on….

Do I think that he is a saint…no. Maybe I’m wrong, but I actually believe that Trumps heart had a conversion.
Trump had a life before the presidency that had both money and power…he didn’t need that office to achieve either of those. He actually lost financially after entering office. I watched many videos of him over the years…long before he ran for President. He often saw and spoke of the need to see our country have a president that advanced the people’s needs above those of the leadership. He bucked the system…or as he called it, the “swamp”….In both parties, including his own.
They gave him trouble from the moment he was elected, but the conservatives loved him because he supported and advanced our causes….and he kept us safe from foreign powers because of his strength.

What happened in Afghanistan would never happen under trump. The Democrats are even turning on Biden now.

As much as I would love to have a saint in office, I’m realistic to know that there are no saints in any political office either in the USA or any nation….but Trump protected our religious beliefs better than any past or current leader. No, he wasn’t perfect and did support some things that I do not, but considering the alternatives, yes, I’d give anything to have him in office right this second! The world without him leading this nation with strength is a much more dangerous place for everyone. I fearfully think this will become even more evident in the near future. Trump like Reagan kept the peace through strength. The dangerously evil world leaders do not respect weakness…they only respond strength. Right now, they have no respect for American and it’s feckless leadership and that makes the world a more dangerous place for all of us.

We were never electing a saint for president, we seldom can even find saints in our church hierarchy today.
Trump is no saint, but I’ll take him over the evil lot in power in the USA right now. Even the democrats are turning on Biden. Trump was a strong leader, Biden is destroying our nation and possibly the world.

God can still bring good out of evil.

    even great, great evil.

Personally I don't get too hooked up on what others have done or intended. My own personal focus would be on what ,I myself, intended or have done.

I just leave the others to themselves.

    The soldier does his duty.

    ..and if he does this..

    this is enough..

    ..and more than enough.

Duty is enough and more than enough.

To love my country and serve.

I have a special affection for soldiers. I pray for all Soldiers regularly. No one can understand the heart of a soldier but God and maybe another soldier. I was just saying to my friend last night who was a Ranger- I was watching a video where young afghan girls were crying, pleading and begging the soldiers to take them because they feared being raped. I can’t imagine how the soldiers mentally handled that.

    From CATHOLIC VOTE:

With Congressional Probes Looming, More Dems Ditch Biden Over Afghan Crisis
CV NEWS FEED // As the humanitarian crisis worsens in Afghanistan and congressional probes loom, more Democrats are pointing their fingers at President Joe Biden for allowing the country to fall so swiftly into radical Islamist hands.

In a televised address this week, Biden blamed the Taliban’s swift takeover of the country on Aug. 15 — two weeks ahead of a scheduled U.S. withdrawal — on both Donald Trump and the Afghan military’s unwillingness to fight.

But Jordain Carney reported for The Hill on Aug. 18 that Biden’s support on Capitol Hill has swiftly evaporated in a growing backlash against this explanation, leaving him with “few allies” in his party outside of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. While the latter have issued talking points to Democratic legislators in an effort to rally behind Biden, some leading officials have already broken ranks.

Sen. Bob Menendez, D-NJ, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, agreed with Biden that the Trump administration’s agreement with the Taliban was “wholly inadequate.” But he still blamed Biden for mishandling the U.S. withdrawal in a way that allowed the repressive militants to quickly displace the legitimate Afghan government, which had held power for 20 years since American troops liberated the country after 9/11.

“I am disappointed that the Biden administration clearly did not accurately assess the implications of a rapid U.S. withdrawal,” Menendez said.

Rep. Jim Langevin, D-RI, a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, went even further by writing a bruising op-ed that called the pullout under Biden a “catastrophe,” saying he expected better after the Trump administration.

“At minimum, the Biden administration owed our Afghan allies of 20 years a real plan,” Langevin wrote. “They also owed it to our military service members and their families, particularly the men and women in uniform and their families who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Not to mention the women and girls of Afghanistan who are now experiencing a devastating new reality.”

For his part, Menendez has joined a growing chorus of Democrats in charge of congressional committees who have asked Biden administration officials to testify about their lack of preparedness for the Taliban coup. House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Gregory Meeks, D-NY, his counterpart on the House side, was the first to make this invitation to the Biden administration.

Senate Intelligence Committee chairman Mark Warner, D-VA, said he would work with other committees in the congressional investigation to learn “why we weren’t better prepared for a worst-case scenario.”

Meanwhile, Senate Armed Services Committee chairman Jack Reed, D-RI, said he’ll focus in hearings on “what went wrong in Afghanistan and lessons learned to avoid repeating those mistakes.”

As the reality of losing Afghanistan in a way detrimental to U.S. interests under Biden settles into the national consciousness, other Democrats may have political reasons for ditching the president’s talking points on his exit strategy, insofar as they fear a more personal backlash from voters in the upcoming 2022 midterms.

Sen. Mark Kelly, D-AZ, facing a potentially tight reelection battle in a usually-red state next year, said “the rapidly deteriorating situation in Afghanistan reveals a failure to prepare.”

While most Americans have favored pulling out of Afghanistan in recent years, polls taken earlier this week as the Taliban established its new caliphate in Kabul have revealed that a majority now oppose the way the Biden administration did it. Beyond the humiliation and horror of seeing U.S. aircraft evacuate personnel in a sudden panic, with desperate Afghan allies falling to their deaths while clinging to planes departing from Hamid Karzai Airport, fears have surfaced that the repressive Taliban regime will once again establish Afghanistan as a haven for terrorist organizations like Al-Queda.

On Aug. 18, Biden’s average approval rating dropped 2 points from the preceding Thursday to 48 percent. According to Five Thirty Eight, the decline in Biden’s overall approval rating to its lowest this year stems at least partly from a decline in Americans’ approval of his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic that started even before the Afghan fiasco. But the current humanitarian crisis, with the Biden administration now struggling to evacuate tens of thousands of U.S. citizens and Afghan refugees from Kabul, seems to be driving further declines in the president’s popularity.

News reports from Afghanistan, including images of women beaten in the streets and ongoing gunfire in the capital, seem to be having an impact on voters of all persuasions. Sen. Tom Carper, D-DE, generally a staunch ally of the president, said the U.S. military’s departure should have been “carefully planned” to protect the women and girls most at risk under the Taliban’s repressive laws.

Yes, his mind is gone…hence the widely held belief that he is not running the show….our nation is being run by Obama holdovers. The only thing Biden is running is our nation into the ground. I do not know, nor do I believe that we can survive another three plus years of this regime. The pace that the USA is declining is unbelievable. The damage they are doing to our nation is incalculable. We cannot sustain this. Perhaps God is allowing this. If it continues unabated, not only will the US suffer, but as we are now seeing, the world. With this colossal military Afghanistan failure, and the fallout that willensue, the world now has become a much more dangerous place for everyone.

My grand father fought in the Spanish Civil War against the Communists.

This always reminds me of the requonista of Spain from Islam.

    But God cannot bless evil.

The West is totally, tottaly evil at the moment, how can bless it.

I recall the anthem under which my grand father fought in Spain.

Yes Padraig, the west is very evil now. I believe Gods grace and blessings have been removed because they have ignored Him….possibly why we are in the obviously evil situation we are in now. I’m surprised it wasn’t sooner.

His videos are very uplifting! If you need good news on bad news days, go to Dr. Turkeys channel. It’s political and I think he’s a catholic. Great content. I just finished viewing two of his recent uploads. He thinks Biden might be forced to step down ….cognitive issues. Wow…who knew…:):D

Just saw this terrible news, about Christians in Afghanistan: Truly awful.

Taliban Going Door To Door Seeking Christians, Searching Through Phones For Bible Apps: Report | The Daily Wire

fghan Christians are reportedly fleeing to the mountains in a desperate attempt to escape the Taliban who is going door to door trying to kill them.

An underground church that partners with Frontier Alliance International (FAI) has reported that the Taliban are targeting Christians for death. According to FAI:

The Taliban has a hit list of known Christians they are targeting to pursue and kill. The US Embassy is defunct and there is no longer a safe place for believers to take refuge. All borders to neighboring countries are closed and all flights to and from have been halted, with the exception of private planes. People are fleeing into the mountains looking for asylum. They are fully reliant on God, who is the only One who can and will protect them.

The Taliban are going door-to-door taking women and children. The people must mark their house with an “X” if they have a girl over 12 years old, so that the Taliban can take them. If they find a young girl and the house was not marked they will execute the entire family. If a married woman 25 years or older has been found, the Taliban promptly kill her husband, do whatever they want to her, and then sell her as a sex slave.

Husbands and fathers have given their wives and daughters guns and told them that when the Taliban come, they can choose to kill them or kill themselves—it is their choice.

Taliban are also reportedly rifling through people’s phones to look for any apps that would give them away as Christians."

What a horror! I am praying for these people, to be in such peril is unimaginable.

Lord, please give these souls succor, let them find safety.

My grandfather was a Staff Sergeant and commanded an armoured car. I saw an old photo of him in his uniform and he looked quite fierce. A lot of Irish people fought in the Civil War. For both sides.
