I still like to believe that most Bishops and priests and Cardinals and Religious are good and Holy people. I love to believe that the bad one are the default , please God very much the exception.

The problem is if we reach a point were we more nor less say , 'They're all the same', we become far too negative and people walk away. Certainly there are sinners, but, well, so am I and being aware of this enables me to cut folks a lot more slack.

I make allowances for the Father as I suspect he is somewhat unwell. But it troubles me that Michael Voris is platforming him in this way. It is not good for the Father and it is far for good for anyone else.

And since it truly is Cardinal against Cardinal, and Bishop against Bishop, from Our Lady at Akita, then we put on ashes and pray the penitential rosary. Those are the instructions.
Padraig, I think often of what you said about our actions having consequences. So true.

I watched the Vortex with Fr Altman and although every word he said is true, I think the frustration he has felt in recent weeks has boiled over. I understand how it must feel for a priest who preaches the truth in and out of season to react with anger and disbelief when his superiors give the impression that they aren't on his side... But...

He's letting his anger take over. If he carries on like this he risks suspension from priestly duties. Yes I get it, while Fr James Martin drips his poison and gets rewarded, Fr Altman is sidelined and punished for preaching traditional Catholic doctrine. Yet it's as if he and his followers think obedience is being weak, whereas obedience can be a weapon against pride.

Fr Altman, in another broadcast, mentioned that two female journalists hostile to him were 'probably using contraception' - ie, he made them feel uncomfortable. He may well be right, but this kind of presumption sat uneasily with me. If the journalists were men would he have mentioned a sinful sexual context? Why does it matter what their motive is anyway?

I am in agreement with Fr Altman's teaching and believe he has been hard done by, but the celebrity priest image is one he should flee from. So many of them fall from grace.

It’s a no-no when discussions and arguments get personal. We are better off taking our own inventory.

There are many good examples of clerics and laypeople who give good evidence of how to conduct ourselves in making our points without crossing lines in terms of charity and prudence and respect; Cardinal Burke, Bishop Athanasius Schneider, Cardinal Muller and so on..

But one particular layperson draws my attention and that is Professor Anthony Stein. He simply makes his points and makes them so well and with restraint and deep knowledge. I have gotten into the habit of listening to him every day now.

I hope God cuts us all a bit of slack.

    These are truly terrible times.
Some of the things we are witnessing , both in the Church and the World would turn your heart to stone.

Spot on Clare. What happened to Fr. A was not right, but his actions in the aftermath were not helpful. It would have been better for Fr. to decline the recent interview on the Vortex. Michael Voris is a showboater, and the interview did not put Fr. in a good light.

Yes. I agree, Jo. I felt as though Fr A was thrown to the wolves. In that format, he was all by himself with his strong emotions. There was no outside help to mitigate what I think is disastrous.

I don’t agree at all that Father Altmann has gone over the edge. There is such a thing as justifiable anger! The EVIL of Abortion, is certainly one of those issues. Babies are literally being butchered and sold for parts! Biden is trying to pass a law right now that makes abortion permanent in the USA, no restrictions, invalidates all laws in each state that have protected human little helpless pre-born infants. Plus, he wants the American people to pay for it! We have martyrs that have given their lives in protection of the Holy Eucharist, but Father Altmann is the bad guy for trying to protect sacrilegious communions! How many souls will be damned, real souls for all eternity, because of the scandal these bishops are allowing the faithful to be exposed to? Since they are looking the other way on pro-abortion politicians to receive Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament while promoting and passing real laws to enshrine in the USA, homosexuality, murder of the unborn, transgenderism. What is the faithful to think? Some Will think is alright for them to believe this false teachings as well. Some Catholics will go on to murder their children because no one will speak up, and tell faithful the truth anymore! Real souls will be damned because because no one will speak, because they might sound a little angry. Even Jesus got angry at the money changers at the temple.

John the Baptist was fiery and emotional.

St Paul too was famous for calling a spade a spade.

Perhaps we moderns are just too polite.

I don’t disagree about the reasons for Fr A’s hissy fit. But I think it has hurt him.

I think strength and boldness is very fitting, as is a prayerful holy silence. It just depends what we're called to. I think what we're seeing in Fr. Altman is anger without charity, and that can get dangerous, especially when pride is being stoked by celebrity status.

That being said, the only reason we're pointing this out about Fr Altman is not to condemn him, but to caution others against falling into the same trap of anger without charity, and a kind of glamorization of disobedience.

We just need to pray for him and all of us, that we'll be united to God's will and not go off the rails in this time of trial!
