Ok. I asked, and was told that none of the bishops have said we shouldn't take it, and that there is no indication that "aborted fetal tissue" was used. At least, that's the answer I got. Anyone else? Or has this discussion gone on long enough?

I am a nurse, we tell people if you have had COVID you are only guaranteed immune for 90 days and nothing more at this point with all the research.

I took the vaccine on Monday...the Moderna. I had no side effects.
I just finished 6 months of chemo and radiation for very advanced aggressive Uterine and Ovarian Cancer. My doctor said I had to get it basically. But add to that I am a school nurse and now start back to work. This week the kids come back in small amounts and we are in orange stage alert in my state.

This was not an easy decision by any stretch. Without the cancer, I probably would have taken my chances and not got it. I am currently feeling good. I walk 3 to 4 miles a day. I am not obese but in the mid overweight range. I am 61 and have asthma and a healthcare worker. I am not a smoker.

I read through all the documents by the Catholic church. I sought council from a very holy priest and a very holy deacon...but my biggest reason. The look of fear in my husband's eyes when I told him I didn't want to take it. He has been through so much with me this year. I almost died of a hemorrhage and sepsis in June.

HE INSISTED I get it. I agreed between him and my oncologist. These things are personal. I don't care what others think of me. I answer to God and feel at peace with my decision.

Ok. I'll probably get it. I live alone, and have at least one friend who worries about me for that reason alone. If I were to not get the vaccine, and got the virus, I don't like to think of her reaction to that. We both have major depression, and she has been suicidal in the years I've known her. I don't want to add the burden to her of being that sick and possibly dying alone. Well, I do have my cat but he can't exactly call for help for me. Anyway, I wanted to get as much info as I could, and as much input. I don't want to go against Church teachings, and I don't want to worry people. Thanks for all the input here.

Actually, every study that I’ve read recently has shown that immunity hasn’t waned yet (7+ months). I think the guidance of 90 days that you received is outdated. It would be pretty unusual for immunity to be lost so early (and at all really), and it is looking like it is probably the case here as well.

Do you know whether people who have had one strain of the virus are immune to all strains? Or will it be like the 'flu where a new vaccine is required every year to cover a mix of strains of 'flu viruses?

Your arguments are sound and well reasoned.

My problem is that I see taking a vaccine which involved the use of aborted feral cells as similar to knowingly buying stolen goods. It doesn't matter that I don't know the person whose property it was and I don't know the thief. What matters is that I know the goods were obtained dishonestly and shouldn't be available for me to buy them no matter how many hands they passed through before they were offered to me at the right price. Even if I were to use those goods to benefit someone in dire in need, it wouldn't cancel the theft and I would still be as guilty as the thief.

This isn’t a study, rather it’s a horrible take on data. As you know from being a nurse, the measurement of Antibodies is not the standard to use as the body stops making antibodies when the virus is no longer present. Don’t have the time to post the studies tonight (family time :) ) but here’s a link that confirms what You just posted:

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...-us-about-immunity-and-vaccines-idUSKBN27E2OD

“Antibody responses are usually short-lived because once they have done their job you don’t need them,” said Jonathan Stoye, head of virology at Britain’s Francis Crick Institute.

“But that doesn’t mean that immunity, either induced by infection or by vaccination, is necessarily short-lived: Memory cells can respond to and combat a new infection.”

From the studies I’ve be read so far, it doesn’t appear that there has been a mutation that would nullify the immunity one would receive from either infection or vaccination.

You have it on the Pope's authority that you committed no sin by taking the vaccine, so your mind should be at rest. I don't see how anyone can be condemned for obeying the one who has the authority to bind and loose.

Thank God your health is improving and you can go back to work. Nice to see prayers being answered.

  17. And for those who do not trust this Pope but would trust Pope Benedict XVI the following was promulgated during his papacy....

CONGREGATION FOR THE DOCTRINE OF THE FAITH

    INSTRUCTION DIGNITAS PERSONAE

    ON CERTAIN BIOETHICAL QUESTIONS
"Of course, within this general picture there exist differing degrees of responsibility. Grave reasons may be morally proportionate to justify the use of such “biological material”. Thus, for example, danger to the health of children could permit parents to use a vaccine which was developed using cell lines of illicit origin, while keeping in mind that everyone has the duty to make known their disagreement and to ask that their healthcare system make other types of vaccines available."
    ___________________________
    From the USCCB:
With regard to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, they concluded:

“In view of the gravity of the current pandemic and the lack of availability of alternative vaccines, the reasons to accept the new COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna are sufficiently serious to justify their use, despite their remote connection to morally compromised cell lines.

“Receiving one of the COVID-19 vaccines ought to be understood as an act of charity toward the other members of our community. In this way, being vaccinated safely against COVID-19 should be considered an act of love of our neighbor and part of our moral responsibility for the common good.”

With regard to the AstraZeneca vaccine, the bishops found it to be “more morally compromised” and consequently concluded that this vaccine “should be avoided” if there are alternatives available. “It may turn out, however, that one does not really have a choice of vaccine, at least, not without a lengthy delay in immunization that may have serious consequences for one’s health and the health of others,” the bishop chairmen stated. “In such a case … it would be permissible to accept the AstraZeneca vaccine.”

At the same time, the bishops also warned that Catholics “must be on guard so that the new COVID-19 vaccines do not desensitize us or weaken our determination to oppose the evil of abortion itself and the subsequent use of fetal cells in research.”

The slippery slope from top to bottom, played out in real time in the course of a few short years:

Pope Benedict: ".......Grave reasons may be morally proportionate........". "....everyone has the duty to make known their disagreement and ask that their healthcare system make other vaccines available....".

The US Bishops: ".....it would be be acceptable to use the AstraZeneca vaccine..."

Pope Francis: It is suicidal to refuse the vaccine.
