The Illumination will be tough on Protestants.

    [marq=left]Just some passing thoughts . . .[/marq]

I think that the Illumination will be rough on Protestants--maybe a little more so than Catholics.

I'm generalizing here, but I'm referring to those who embrace the Once Saved/Always Saved (OSAS) mentality. They are so sure of their salvation -- such an illumination is sure to devastate them to the core. I guess, this thread came about because of a recent conversation. She insisted that Christ's blood covers everything. She will be saved through faith in Christ alone -- nothing else required. As I understand it, according to Protestant teachings, the only sin that can separate them from God is to NOT believe in Jesus Christ. This is why, it seems to me, that the sting of God's rejection experienced during the Illumination, will pierce them particularly hard. I cannot imagine what will go through their minds and hearts when they realize Jesus Blood did not cover the sins they haven't truly repented of in the way they imagined He would. Even a good man falls seven times a day. This is why our conversions are ongoing. Even so, I imagine even practicing Catholics will be shocked and horrified by their shortcomings. However, it seems like it will be doubly so for those who were living under the assumption their souls were shiny clean, only to find out they're not and reparation needs to be made. We are all of the same root stock though, aren't we? So, if we're all shorn to the ground by events to come, maybe the different denominations will fade away, because we'll all be starting over and growing together, so to speak.

I suspect like people from all different faiths they will interpret what happned in their own ways. The ability of mankind for self deception is almost infinite.

I am working with two very good Church going Protestants at the minute and I have, I admit been wondering how they will react when the time comes. It will be very interesting.

If Protestants stream back to the Catholic Church by the millions, it is sure to cause upheavel. I wonder what some of the biggest problems will be. I can imagine some cradle Catholics becoming resentful. It seems like there will be divisions for a while -- even with the Catholic Church. There will be Lutheran Catholics wanting to excert their own influence on things. They'll be Baptist Catholics, Anglican Catholics or Old Catholics and New Catholics . . . somehow, people will find a way to separate themselves and try to make the church "better" . . . more like what they're used to.

People will from outside the Church will join the Church because they will know it is the True Church. Once they enter, however, they'll try to change the True Church from within. It doesn't make sense, but it does seem to be how things work. We'll need an exceptionally strong pope when the prodigal sons and daughters return.

    Thoughts anyone?

You 're thinking ahead Deanna!! I have been thinking a lot about these things recently myself. As i say i am working with two really wonderful committed Protestant folks myself at the minute who have me thinking. Basically i don't think we convert folks so much by what we say as by what we are and vica versa.

I live in a city were up to fairly recently we killed each other for being Protestant or Catholic most particularly for being Catholic. So politics and religion have gotten all mixed up .i have seen this in different part of the worlds I have visited. In Jerusalem, in Cyprus, in Bosnia /hercogovina {the former Yugoslavia.

I visited the States {chicago} and saw some pretty antiCatholic stuff in an American ?African Protestant Baptist Prayer group I used to have the joy of joining in.

Politics and religion make a witchs brew in all kinda parts of the world, particularly within Islam and Judaism at the moment. I view this as the particular work of Satan as this is just some thing he would like.

Now how will this work our in practice. Good question.

I think we will need a very, very very Holy Pope. Someone even holier then JPII and Benedict. I think we will need someone who is going to wholly and completely do just what God tells him, to the letter. A great Pope maybe the best we have had since Peter. Tall order, but thats what we've gotta pray for.

If Ron Conte is right, Father Sudac, Pope Raphael, will be a very holy Pope. I think it is obvious that Father Sudac is very holy. I bet that Rain's insight will be be dead on. After all, we are all human and prefer habits.

Hello all, new to the forums, and thought I'd chime in my thoughts....

Without a doubt the Warning will be harder on Catholics then anyone else. I hope Ron Conte is right as to the date and his interpretation of the events, because the world is sure on the path to damnation.

I personally think the Warning will be just as it is described in the 3rd secert of Fatima.

"We saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave
Out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they
Died out in contact with the splendor that Our Lady radiated towards him
From her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel
Cried out in a loud voice: 'Penance, Penance, Penance!'. And we saw in an immense light that is God: 'something similar to how people appear in a
Mirror when they pass in front of it'"

    Then possibly...according to St. Faustina

"Before I come as the just Judge, I am coming first as the King of Mercy. Before the day of justice arrives, there will be given to people a sign in the heavens of this sort: All light in the heavens will be extinguished, and there will be great darkness over the whole earth. Then the sign of the cross will be seen in the sky, and from the openings where the hands and the feet of the Savior were nailed will come forth great lights which will light up the earth for a period of time. This will take place shortly before the last day"

I could be wrong but that is how I see the warning unfold.. a great noise, possibly a minor shaking of the earth(to get our attention), seeing the angel with the flaming sword as if to destroy the earth.. then Our Lady stopping the angel, then the cross of Our Lord, then the Illumination.
In this way Our Lord assails 3 of our senses

    Hearing-a loud noise
    Touch-feeling the ground shake
Sight- the mighty sign in the heavens(sky)
I doubt we will smell anything, but we all will probably taste our own bile afterwards we see what we do to Our Lord by our own sinfulness.

just my thoughts on how I think it could unfold.

The Warning, I imagine, will be tough on everyone, not just Catholics in particular.
I dread the day in one way, but look forward to it in another, sort of like an exam! But a serious exam it will indeed be.
I am from Ireland, and going by the interpretation on catholicplanet.net, it could be early afternoon when it occurs.
Hope to get a few Rosaries in by then!

As a newcomer, I sincerely wish all of you the very best in preparing for this fateful event and may the Holy Spirit continue to strengthen the souls who have faith!

I think, Sean to some extent we already get a little of the Illumination of Conscience when we pray regualrly.

The Cure of Ars tell a scarey story about this. He says one time he asked God to show him his soul in all his sinfulness. God duly obliged and the poor Cure of Ars screamed in horror at what he saw. He says if God had not stopped he would have died at once!!...and this was a very, great saint, so think what it might be like for us!! Which makes me think maybe God will not go the whole hog and show us everything. Which reminds me of what a Protestant Cleryman from England said when he met Saint John Vianney, 'I have met God in a man!!'

Wonderful words. There is a sculpeur of Saint John Vianney in Ars which shows this holiness, it was said of him he could convert people just by them seeing him. This statue shows how holy he was, but just think...if the Illumination could nearly kill him!!!........

You can see a photo of this marvellous statue here, showing the Patron Saint of Parish Priests praying here:

I don't think we were meant to be fearful about this, that only takes us off track, off focus. I can only put one foot in front of another, only one prayer at a time and only change my heart and mind as quickly as my willingness allows. Sometimes that's not very fast and other times it's a nano second. . . but it's only what I can do, nothing more. So my best bet is to proceed on the path I'm on, as the message from Anne the Lay related, just keep going. It gets barren some times and I become unsure and then God is so good to whisper to me and it makes it alright again. I'm very aware of the Graces given to me, not all of them of course but so many. All I can do is what He puts in front of me, nothing more.

my question is whether people who have never been baptized can also be impacted by the illumination of conscience, since the Holy Spirit is the one who convinces of error

“A great purification will come upon the world preceded by an Illumination of Conscience in which everyone will see themselves as God sees them.”

In 2021, the Thursday will be May 13. This is the feast day of St. Imelda Lambertini and is also the feast of the Ascension of Jesus Christ. He was the true martyr of the Eucharist.

Maybe we will find out this year! : ). Talvez vamos descobrar este ano

I'm more concerned about the 3 days of darkness than the Illumination of conscience because from what I've read, people will suffer a great deal and differently depending on their state at that moment and we will experience where we would go if we died right there and then and so for those who pray especially the rosary and go to confession often hopefully it won't be terribly awful. And that it will be God's Mercy and our last chance to choose/convert. And everyone will know God exists. I do worry about my family however, and although they pray, they haven't been to confession in a long time even though I've tried.

However the 3 days of darkness really does concern me more. There's a lot I don't know about it, although it may look like I do, don't know what's true.

    1. Not sure if it will before or after the warning.

    2. That there will be a "warning" by lightening incredible and wind and that will mean to go home amd prepare.

    3. I've heard there will be a gas outside and that doors, windows and vents need to be sealed. I suppose we need duct tape?

    4. Not to open doors regardless of who it may sound like.

    5. That it will be extremely cold,

    6. To light a blessed candle (only with matches),

    7. remain in constant prayer with rosary, the bible,

    8. get water and blankets.

    9. That we will hear many sounds from outside but not to look outside.

    10. People outside will die.

This morning while praying the rosary a thought entered my mind that the blood of the lamb should mark our doors : Jesus. And my thought wondered how could we do that and I thought of the Holy Eucharist...still.??. Last summer I placed blessed crucifixes over a number doors, but I didn't finish. I still have 2 doors and 2 or 3 windows.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Maybe correct my misunderstandings..

I've heard of the three days darkness where only blessed candles will give light. I have a few candles on hand that I'd like to get blessed, but I'd like to get more so I'll have plenty by then (I hope). And I pray that I don't go through it alone. I've found myself wondering if everything else will work. Like my oven or whatever. I know that sounds like details not necessary. If we have the three days darkness, maybe afterwards we are given a "grace period" where we can then get to a church to confess and then find a "sanctuary." I'm not sure my place would be adequate for that. As far as marking our doors, would holy water count? I mean, I have some on hand. But would it be better if I got my place blessed by a priest again? I've had it blessed once, but have a few other objects that haven't been blessed and since I don't have a car, I can't take them over to my priest for him to bless. I've been wondering if I should just ask him to come over, and have him bless the whole house all over again. Like I said, I have a few new items to be blessed, and I don't trust myself to get the bigger ones over there to him without breaking something. I'll try to call to the church office on Monday.

That's a good idea..to get your house blessed. From what I know nothing will work. There will be no power whatsoever. And 1 beeswax blessed candle will last 3 days. So I think you're ok. But we will need to cover our windows. I need to get more window coverings. I live in the country and havw window dressing, won't really work. I like the idea of Holy water to bless the doors. I have exorcized water..will do that.

I'm a former lifelong Protestant who sees nothing worthwhile of Protestantism to bring over into the Catholic Church. ;) I walked out of my last Protestant church in March 2015, and didn't step foot in another church until early 2019 -- Catholic.

But yeah, there will be people who'll want to "bring over" something.

I, too, was a protestant. And I've looked for someone who could help me with my faith walk. Especially bible study. I did have someone who was willing to be a spiritual advisor, but we were to get together just once a month, and she offered no real leadership on what I should read, especially in reading the bible. Maybe I just wasn't clear enough. But I do wish for someone who could do a bible study with me that isn't using some other book that I'd have to buy. My funds are limited, so my "bible study" needs to use the bible as the main text. And there are other things I'd like to have someone's help on. I know I've been a Catholic longer than anything else, but in the beginning I had more zeal than brains/learning, so I got in trouble in a couple of places. It was fairly disheartening. It still is. I seem to have lost that zeal, but I'm still trying to move forward with reading and praying.

As for my protestant years, my parents were Southern Baptist, so that's where I went until my mid teens. Then it was the Church of Christ until I went in the Army. There, it was the generic Protestant service. My ex was Penticostal, and he refused to look at any other church. Then after the divorce, I tried the Penticostals until the preacher out right lied during a sermon. I ended up in the United Methodist Church until my depression kept me at home. Then I ended up in the hospital for that depression. Through the years after my divorce, God laid out the crumbs that finally got my attention when I went in the hospital. There I met an amazing priest who helped me get over the final hesitation I had about becoming Catholic. Yes, I had my doubts and questions. Especially when it came to Mary. The Protestant teachings I heard over the years didn't help. It was like they thought that the Catholics made too much of Mary. I see where the Protestants made too little of her. I still run into misconceptions about Catholic stuff. I have an email friend, David, who is penticostal. We've been friends for close to 20 years. At least, he says it's been that long. He got upset with me recently when I mentioned the rosary. He claimed it was "vain repetition." I told him it's only that if you say the prayers without focusing on the "mysteries" that go along with it. He has some strange ideas sometimes.

Ok, that's where I come from in regards to some of my comments. I hope I don't offend anyone here. That's the last thing I want to do. I hope to learn plenty while I'm here. Oh, and how do I get a picture in my little box that shows up on the threads?

And Protestant teachings are often at odds (to some degree) with each other, or confusing. My Midwestern hometown was 90% Protestant and wow -- was the tribalism fierce! Baptists didn't like Nazarenes didn't like Evangelical Free didn't like Methodists didn't like Church of Christ didn't like Lutherans.

And as we know, there's a big misunderstanding in that regard.

Definitely. :coffee: Husband (a lapsed Catholic!) and I have tiffs about this. He wasn't reared in the Church, and most of adulthood has attended Protestant churches. He will say "Catholics blah blah blah Mary." He is begrudgingly accepting of the imagery I have of Mary. I've told him that Protestants (of my long, long experience) ONLY mention Mary around Christmas time, and that in quick passing, and that's it. I've also told him that St. Paul often gets more attention by the average Protestant than Christ himself!

Where do I find an image to upload? I like many that I've seen others use here, and want something that's not the same but similar. Something really interesting. Like a Catholic picture of some sort.

Oh, and I appreciate your response. I know I've gotten to where I ramble a lot, and think of how much so many of you know. And I've seen a few threads that might be interesting, but the discussion has been going on for so long that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of replies. I find that rather intimidating. I'd love to jump in, but might repeat something someone else has already said. So I don't go there.
