Pope Francis to mark fifth anniversary of ‘Amoris laetitia’ with year dedicated to family Vatican City, Dec 27, 2020 / 04:16 am MT (CNA).- Pope Francis announced Sunday a special year dedicated to the family, marking the fifth anniversary of the publication of his apostolic exhortation Amoris laetitia. In his Angelus address Dec. 27, the feast of the Holy Family, the pope noted that March 19, 2021, would mark five years since the signing of Amoris laetitia following synods on the family in 2014 and 2015. He said: “Today’s feast reminds us of the example of evangelising with the family, proposing to us once again the ideal of conjugal and family love, as underlined in the apostolic exhortation Amoris laetitia, promulgated five years ago this coming March 19. And it will be a year of reflection on Amoris laetitia and it will be an opportunity to focus more closely on the contents of the document. These reflections will be made available to ecclesial communities and families, to accompany them on their journey.” “As of now, I invite everyone to take part in the initiatives that will be promoted during the Year and that will be coordinated by the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life. Let us entrust this journey, with families all over the world, to the Holy Family of Nazareth, in particular to St. Joseph, the devoted spouse and father.” The pope’s announcement follows his proclamation of a year dedicated to St. Joseph, which began on Dec. 8 and will conclude on Dec. 8, 2021. Pope Francis released the apostolic exhortation Amoris laetitia (“The Joy of Love”) on April 8, 2016, though it was signed on March 19 that year. One of the longest documents in papal history, it consists of an introduction and nine chapters, reflecting on challenges to marriage and family life. A Dec. 27 press release from the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life said that the newly proclaimed year would be known officially as the Year “Amoris Laetitia Family.” It said: “The pandemic experience has highlighted the central role of the family as the domestic Church and has shown the importance of community ties between families, which make the Church an authentic ‘family of families.’” “Through the spiritual, pastoral, and cultural initiatives planned in the Year ‘Amoris Laetitia Family,’ Pope Francis intends to address all ecclesial communities throughout the world, exhorting each person to be a witness of family love.” “Resources will be shared within parishes, dioceses, universities, and in the context of ecclesial movements and family associations, on: family spirituality, formation and pastoral activity for marriage preparation, young people education in affective maturity, and on the holiness of married couples and families who live out the grace of the sacrament in their daily life.” “International academic symposiums will also be organized to examine in-depth the contents and implications of the apostolic exhortation in relation to highly topical issues that affect families around the world.” The dicastery also announced the creation of a new website, www.amorislaetitia.va, dedicated to the year, which will begin on March 19, 2021, and end on June 26, 2022, with the celebration of the 10th World Meeting of Families in Rome. It explained that an “informational brochure” would be available on the site, which currently redirects to the dicastery’s homepage. Among the initiatives announced in the brochure are a forum to be held June 9-12, 2021, entitled “Where are we with Amoris laetitia? Strategies for implementing the apostolic exhortation of Pope Francis.” Forum participants will include the heads of offices for family pastoral ministry of the world’s bishops’ conferences, as well as members of international movements and family associations. The brochure also said that Pope Francis would take part in a project called “10 Videos Amoris Laetitia” in which he would “explain the chapters of the apostolic exhortation, along with families who will give witness by sharing some aspects of their daily lives.” The videos will appear monthly. The dicastery said that the new website dedicated to the special year sought to help in “spreading the Christian message on the family in light of the challenges of our time; promoting a deeper understanding of the text of the apostolic exhortation and of the magisterium of Pope Francis; inviting episcopal conferences, dioceses, and parishes, together with ecclesial movements, associations, and families, to devote themselves enthusiastically to the pastoral care of the family by implementing Amoris laetitia.” The dicastery added that the site would be presented in five languages -- English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian -- and would be “updated with the proposals and initiatives that will gradually develop over the course of the year.” https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/...titia-with-year-dedicated-to-the-family-99910
If he wishes to examine and impliment Amoris laetitia, I would say let's start with answering the Dubia. Pope Francis to mark fifth anniversary of ‘Amoris laetitia’ with year dedicated to family. What happened to the year dedicated to Saint Joseph.
St. Joseph is for the "see I told you the Pope is Catholic" and "nothing to see here" crowd. The rest is for the likes of Fr. Sodomy (EssJay) and the village that will rear whatever children the population controllers permit to be born. But it's all OK provided it comes with a (meatless) food parcel that proves they are "walking the talk". Just pray for them and thank God you won't have the job of convincing kids that, no matter what the teacher and priest said, pachamama or gaia, or whatever name they use to personalise the planet, is not to be worshipped.
If he could have answered the Dubia without showing that the document is a departure from settled teaching, he would have done so when they were raised. Also, what's this "magisterium of Pope Francis"? St. Paul told us what to do if he can't show how his teaching aligns with Scripture and tradition, and all the Rothschilds, Sachs, Franciscans or Jesuits in the world can't change that.
I think all things considered that it's a great time to place such importance and emphasis on the family given the times we are in. Many people are unable to even attend Mass and their lives have been impacted quite significantly with programs and services that the church has provided to families being curtailed due to the impact of these days. As well, with the year being declared for St Joseph I believe this highlights the importance of the influence of the family on society and pointedly those who seek to be reflections of this great saint both in their families lives as well as in the lives of those around them who have suffered loss of some sort. It is a good reminder that in spite of all this we can practice great charity and love for others who have need whether it is recognizing the loneliness of the elderly widow or the young who have need of love and the presence of a fatherly figure that may be absent.
Amen. A sop was all the year of St. Joseph was. When Trump gets re elected there will be big time house cleaning for the vatican and hopefully no vatican bank. They have turned into the "money changers."
The way I see it, it doesn't matter why Pope Francis declared the Year of St. Joseph. It has been done, and many, many faithful Catholics will be growing in their devotion to St. Joseph, who is sorely needed in these times. He is the Protector of the Church, the Terror of Demons, the Patron of Families... In short, the perfect saint to call on right now. I, myself, immediately bought a plaque of St. Joseph to put on my prayer table right when I heard the news. I intend to incorporate daily prayers to him into my routine. Regardless of what we think of Pope Francis, I believe Divine Providence prompted him to set this year apart for St. Joseph. While a year of the family is very important, too, I hope that the renewed discussion of the controversy surrounding Amoris Laeticia doesn't overshadow the importance of St. Joseph this year. Aren't there prophecies that say something like St. Joseph will become more prominent and known in the end times? That he has a particular role to play? I know I read that somewhere. I think this year of St. Joseph is a BIG deal.
Yes, it was a sop. All the more reason for us to implore the Saint's intercession because St. Joseph was no sop. Neither do I believe that he was an old man when he married Mary. Some of the tripe being spun about the Holy Family is just another symptom of the loss of faith, especially among our clergy, too many of whom in influential positions believe that because they couldn't keep their own vows, keeping vows, even keeping the Commandments, is an optional extra. I wouldn't put too much hope in Trump even if he does get sworn in. Chomsky was right about one thing: that you really only have one political party in the US. The Republican establishment's back-stabbing of Trump proved that. I'm also wary of the Evangelical influence. I think, too, that the the attacks on him from some Bishops - even the Holy See - could have a negative impact if he does get a second term. If he goes after his enemies, the collateral damage could impact all of us. That we have a bad Pope and far too many bad Bishops doesn't make the Church any less the mystical body of Christ. Meanwhile, Pope Francis is trying to serve two masters and we know from Jesus how that works out. Best for us to pray for him. Fr. Sodomy is his mouthpiece, chosen for his beliefs. That he couldn't even recognise that Bishop Stika was doing his duty letting Catholics know Biden's hypocrisy tells us all we need to know about him and the Pope who hand-picked him as a mouthpiece. We have very many good priests, very many lukewarm priests, and far too many whose attraction to the priesthood was the pink palace experience. I think that God will have to fix this.
It IS a big deal. We won’t know how many graces will flow from this until we get to Heaven. God will not be mocked. Blessed be God in His angels and in His saints.
I also read a prophesy some where that a devotion to St Joseph will be a sign of the end times.... not that we NEED yet another sign. Its all pretty obvious now a days!
Completely agree. I'm going to focus on St Joseph this year, regardless. The cynic in me notes that this is the 40th anniversary of S JPII's encyclical On Human Work, and 120th anniversary of Rerum Novarum, the social encyclical of Pope Leo XIII. Devoting the current year to St Joseph is a convenient excuse to mark these anniversaries with another encyclical, to be released on May 1st, Feast of St Joseph the Worker. It will be written by Leonardo Boff and contain a lot of Liberation Theology and Marxist/leftist ramblings on the subject of workers. I do suspect Patris Corde is a nice sop to traditional Catholics, but it's worth a read. It may not all be the work of Pope Francis.
There's a video of the Vatican's nativity scene on Edward Pentin's Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/EdwardPentin/status/1337871849951277062 Are we seriously expected to believe that the people who authorised that monstrosity care a whit for families? We Catholics should be accustomed by now to being mocked by Pope Francis. But the Holy Family? Is nothing sacred to him? How low can he go? I'm almost afraid to ask. In times past, when there was faith in Rome, the whole lot of them would have been thrown in the Tiber.
“Chomsky was right about one thing: that you really only have one political party in the US. The Republican establishment's back-stabbing of Trump proved that.” Isn’t that the truth!
Dr. Peter KWasniewski has written a book on restoring Eucharistic reverence. He talks about it with David L Gray in this video. A very interesting discussion.
