I watched it too. Very profound. What I've taken from Dr Mazza's hypothesis is that Pope Emeritus Benedict with his great theological mind has in fact, understood his role according to our Lords words (that he is the rock) and according to the different old and new testament scriptures and according to the different councils down through the ages and also to cannon law. It seems that Pope Emeritus Benedict has only abdicated the position as the Bishop of Rome but remains the supreme pontiff! Additionally, the rock that our Lord threw into the fourth Empire (Rome) , has now stepped aside, thus the restrainer has been lifted. If what Dr Mazza's concludes is correct, Pope Emeritus Benedict demonstrates the possession an incredible and thorough knowledge of not only cannon law but also an intimate legalistic understanding of the church councils and scripture! greater knowledge I would say, then all cannon lawyers and possibly even the early church fathers. In this case, what Pope Emeritus Benedict has achieved is brilliant! in my estimation. Thank you Lord for giving us Pope Emeritus Benedict and continue to protect him. Amen
I think that the wishful thinking is leading people to read too much into it. (from Dolours) My sentiments exactly, and thus they think they can force an OUTCOME to be what they WISH for. Edit: my grandmother used to say that if you look for something with a lit candle you will find it. And then of course, what price will you pay for finding something that you were perhaps not meant to know? The tree of knowledge of good and evil? I know that there are two schools of thought on this subject on the forum and I have been very vocal about my feelings to let sleeping dogs lie. There's another old saying for you. Also, I hate to admit this, but I am not inclined to sit and watch videos. At. all. My learning style is print. So if I can't read it, it probably is not going to stick in my brain.
I love the Pope Emeritus but I wish he hadn't resigned. That's my wishful thinking. I really don't know what to think about the Mazza Hypothesis. Yes we need to pray and fast because logic tells me the outcome of all this only be bad. Francis has appointed plenty of new cardinals who will vote in the next conclave. If many/most of them are on the liberal wing, then we are likely to get a Francis II. Maybe we need it all in the open before the remedy can be applied: "Let all the poisons that lurk in the mud hatch out" ['I Claudius']. Dangerous game though.
e If Pope Benedict believed as he resigned that he could retain part of the papacy but canonically could not then his resignation would be in substantial error. A papal resignation made in substantial error is invalid according to canon law. This was one of the possibilities discussed in the Ann Barnhardt/Prof. Mazza interview.
Additionally, the rock that our Lord threw into the fourth Empire (Rome) , has now stepped aside, thus the restrainer has been lifted. Can you please explain the katechon (restrainer)? It must tie in to what Josephite wrote: the rock that our Lord threw into the fourth Empire (Rome) , has now stepped aside, thus the restrainer has been lifted? It seems that Western Civilization which Christendom built is in big trouble if it means what it sounds like. As the Church goes, so goes the world.
Yes, that's also my understanding of Mazza's hypothesis. My first impression was that the hypothesis required jumping through a lot of hoops before arriving at the conclusion. I need to watch the video again and probably won't have time until next week. It is well worth watching again. Prof. Mazza strikes me as a genuine, faithful Catholic. Seems that he was an early victim of the axe of mercy. What a waste.
Yes, but it depends on what he thought he was retaining. I got the impression that he believes there is a blessing or grace from God which isn't lost on resignation but sustains the person through his retirement. That wouldn't be the same as splitting the papacy.
Not even the best brains in the Church have been able to explain the katechon, so I certainly can't. I always thought it was Holy Mass but looks like I was wrong. This page from the Catholic Encyclopaedia should help (scroll down to the section headed "In the Pauline epistles"): https://www.newadvent.org/cathen/01559a.htm
Dream recorded in the diary of Bruno Cornacchiola of the Three Fountains 21 September 1988 “What I dreamed I wish never come true, it is too painful and I hope that the Lord will not allow the Pope to deny any truth of faith and put himself in place of God. How much pain I felt during the night, my legs were getting paralyzed and I could not move, for the pain I felt in looking at the Church reduced to a pile of ruins “(p. 218).
Oh, yes, I remember reading his story and his prophecies. He was going to make an assassination attempt on the pope in the early 1900's. Then his children saw Our Lady at Tres Fontane before he did. Beautiful story. Add it to the list of prophecies that deserve a 2nd read in these crazy times. Were his prophecies approved?
Honestly, I think we're beginning to get glimpses of truth but are still far from truly understanding what's going on. I think a lot of these things will be made more clear as time goes on.
"Will not prevail" doesn't mean they won't get very close, and these days it's hard not to notice them. I don't know how much truth we are glimpsing or how much we will truly understand in this life. Not that it matters a whole lot now that we're expected to believe that God wills religions which deny the divinity of Jesus and idolatry can't be idolatry if it involves the Pope. Those of us who can't deny our supposedly lying eyes are sneered at for our ignorance by people fond of throwing around accusations of gnosticism. I don't know why none of these super intelligent Catholics ever touch on the possibility that what we got was a negotiated Papal resignation and succession. Does anyone seriously believe that micro-manager Pope Francis didn't have a say in everything from how Benedict would be addressed to what he could say and where he could live? For all that Mazza loves Pope Benedict and admires his genius, the hypothesis doesn't enhance the image of the Pope Emeritus in my not so bright eyes. It could be argued that Pope Benedict's resignation was a betrayal of his friends and those loyal to him, his papacy and the Church. And what's with the spiritual testament to be released after his death? Why not release it now?
