Polish scientists, under professor Marcin Drąg of the Wrocław University of Sciences discovered a resemblance between the SARS-CoV-1 that caused the SARS epidemic in 2002 and the one found in SARS-CoV-2 that now spreads COVID-19, which may save the scientists some time researching the latter and putting an end to its sway. The Polish scientists realised out that a protease, which is an enzyme that catalyses the breakdown of proteins into smaller polypeptides or single amino acids, found in SARS-CoV-1 is similar to the one found in SARS-CoV-2. This means that some results of research done on SARS-CoV-1 apply to SARS-CoV-2. This discovery was preceded by the team’s March success in identifying a SARS-CoV-2 enzyme, namely, the Mpro protease. The scientists believe its properties may be key in the fight against the novel coronavirus. Now professor Drąg announced another breakthrough. His team is the first in the world to identify another protease named SARS-CoV-2-PLpro. Blocking this protease results in halting the virus’ promulgation. “The coronavirus causing COVID-19 has two proteases. Bug cousins The professor recalled that the SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV-1 were close cousins. Thanks to the fact that the latter was well researched during the 2002 epidemic and the team's freshest discovery, some research results of the old virus turned out to be applicable to the research of the novel one. “We managed to compare PLpro of the ‘old’ with the PLpro of the ‘novel’ SARS-CoV. We proved that they were very similar in terms of substrate-binding, which is a key piece of information telling us something about their activity,” said professor Drąg, adding that “thanks to this, all the information acquired over the years of research on the previous SARS can be applied to tackle SARS-CoV-2.” His team has already presented a couple of exemplary compounds that selectively halt the enzyme of SARS-CoV-2. The protease identified by professor Drąg’s team is not only necessary for the virus to replicate but it also overrides a host organism’s defence mechanism rendering its cells incapable of self-destruction in the event of infection. Straight from South Carolina The SARS-CoV-1 enzyme that was needed to identify the SARS-CoV-2 one was provided by the South Carolina laboratory of professor Shaun Olsen of the Medical University of South Carolina/University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The US team of scientists kept working for three weeks until they had the protein ready. Professor Tony Huang and Dr Miklos Bekes of the New York University School of Medicine and Scott Snipas of the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute in California, also contributed to the preparation of the SARS-CoV-1 enzyme. The enzyme reached Poland by Good Friday. Thanks to the Customs Office and FedEx deliveries, the enzyme was brought to professor Drąg’s team before it deactivated, which would have rendered it useless and jeopardised a piece of vital research. Someone was explaining to me recently that Fox news is the only reliable source in the US at the moment. I don't watch it here (in Ireland) but was looking at some recent reports to get a flavour of their reporting. Apparently Trump's new press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said back in late February that there wouldn't be diseases like Coronavirus in the US which was refreshing when you contrast it with the awful Obama administration. (?) She did well at the podium yesterday but those earlier comments may come back to bite her, along with Hannity and others who have tried to minimise the seriousness of the situation. There seems to be some 'Kool Aid' drinking on both sides.
I read last week that doctors were conducting a study to determine the effectiveness of the acid reducer, Pepcid, on reducing the severity of the coronavirus since it is a protease inhibitor. Scientists had apparently noticed that people in China taking Pepcid for reflux had milder coronavirus cases.
I return only momentarily because I had previously expressed suspicion that China might have deliberately chosen to allow the spread of covid-19. Additional investigation has now determined that the Dr. Fauci-headed NIH had approved the funding of research in Wuhan to determine the plausibility of spreading corona viruses from one species to another. A large group of scientists had protested this suggestion, but in 2017 the decision to move ahead with funding was set in motion with this "gain of function" study. The final study got underway in Wuhan in 2019! A good jump-in point is the 21 minute mark! Lord have mercy!
I will say I was given some hope today. I spent some careful time walking with a very liberal nay socialist friend today (incredibly beautiful day). I actually liked this presentation by Michael Matt and I believe he speaks a lot of sense. I also found the Michael Voris presentation in the below vortex presentation informative. The truth is stranger than fiction (as we Catholics have discovered to our horror in the last 20 + years), this jigsaw puzzle that has become our Catholic life has new dire developments daily and it is hard to piece everything together! I believe it is better if we hear all the facts, even if in those facts, there are exaggerations or spins, because we can call on God and as Catholics we have been given the power of discernment through confirmation, I for one want all the pieces of the puzzle, no matter how hard it may be to hear.
thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers. Mom came home within 24 hours from hospital as 2 Covid tests came negative. She has a basal pneumonia from her shoulder fracture 4 weeks ago. Praise GOD....we are caring for her back at home. Hopefully she was not exposed to COVID during her stay. I asked the good Lord to protect her while she was there. Meantime, things seem to be slowing down in NJ with COVID. Our death rate is dropping now. Things should be quieting down. THe parks were reopened yesterday with a stress for social distancing.
I think it is necessary. To cure an infection the whole thing has to be dug out and cauterized---a painful but necessary procedure. Hiding things only prolongs the agony. I believe that the truth will come out from secular sources--sadly--and it will be utterly devastating to Catholics who were raised on banners and butterflies--the I'm okay you're okay Catholics because we are NOT okay. We have real morbidity in the institutional Church and only intense purification will do the job. I'm not looking forward to it. I always think of the movie Casablanca when Captain Reynard--having joined the good guys at last--turns to Rick and says " I hope you know this is not going to be pleasant for either one of us."

There is a need for John the Baptist. We need lots and lots of salt on out Spiritual Food at the moment, we get far, far, far too much sugar.
My personal view on discernment is that unless one is committed to exercising their spiritual life by prayer and meditating on the mysteries or Bible it will be near impossible to rightly discern these things. Discernment is certainly a Grace but I think as well that it is also like a muscle that we learn to exercise in our prayer life when we can identify the voice of God versus that of the enemy. It requires that we have a detachment from all this external noise as well as dedication and fortitude in our prayer lives to hear God's voice and to trust it. I am not saying that it is impossible any other way as God can certainly move the Spirit wherever He likes to inspire His children but I suspect that as all the external noise of all these things develops into the deafening roar we see around us it is the quiet voice that God is prompting and inviting us to seek. Especially now.
