That's incorrect. The "Orthodox Church" has no structure as the Roman Church.....it is made of several Patriarchs who are independent and have their own Bishops. Like our Bishops they are free to act on their own authority which each has done in this case.....most Bishops are taking a "wait and see" stance. For some official Church pronouncement on Vassula the Orthodox Church would need to call some world or "Panorthodox" synod which hasn't happened since the 8th century.....as stated in above comment in case you may have missed that.
It doesn't seem quite the same. The Orthodox Churches (they are Catholic, also) do not have a unified ecclesiastical hierarchy. There is no centralized authority while recognizing the Patriarch of Constantinople as senior. Each Patriarch administers his own distinct See.
The Orthodox churches are not Catholic. They would be insulted to hear you say that. I know because I was baptized Orthodox and my family on both sides had Catholic and Orthodox . I converted to Catholicism when I was 15.
They are separate from the Roman Catholic Church. And members of each can, under certain circumstances, receive the Eucharist from the other.
I was. The Orthodox Canon prohibits Orthodox from receiving the Eucharist from a Church that the Orthodox have excommunicated (“anathema”). This had been historically the case between the Churches of Rome and Constantinople, with the mutual excommunication over FILOQUE, which was put in effect by Pope Leo IX and Michael, the Patriarch of Constantinople, in 1054 AD. However, at this present time, these two churches are NO LONGER EXCOMMUNICATED FROM ONE ANOTHER! On December 7th, 1965 both the Pope Paul VI and the Patriarch of Constantinople, Athenagoras HAVE LIFTED the excommunication toward one another, and as a consequence, the Roman Catholic Church now permits the Orthodox to receive the Eucharist (Canon 844 §3). Patriarch Athenagoras was the legitimate successor to Patriarch Michael and Pope Paul VI was the legitimate successor of Pope Leo IX. Therefore, according to the Apostolic Canon both Patriarch Athenagoras and Pope Paul VI had the legitimate authority to lift the mutual excommunication. And this is exactly what they did on that December 7th of 1965! The decision of Patriarch Athenagoras to lift the Excommunication of the Roman Church was reaffirmed by his successor, Patriarch Dimitrios who directed that “an Orthodox could receive Holy Communion from a Roman Catholic Priest”. The Orthodox Bishops continue being too slow to accept the lifting of the excommunication, and they have been pressuring the current Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew, to distance his Church from the Roman Church. The former excommunication remains officially lifted, in compliance with the Canon of the Church! The Orthodox do not subscribe to the infallibility of any Patriarch or Bishop. They must all follow the Canons and the tradition of the Church. Therefore, if certain Orthodox Bishops forbid their flock to receive Roman Catholic Eucharist, on what canon do they base their judgment? Why would it be wrong for any Orthodox to receive Holy Communion from a Roman Catholic Priest? For instance, the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodoros II, opened the doors of the Patriarchate in Alexandria of Egypt in April of 2008 with a welcoming embrace and gave a moving speech in the Throne Room to officially welcome TLIG and Vassula.
I've often thought that if Our Lady was determined to get a message out, she would not be stopped by a detail as small as a pope refusing to release that message. Akita had other Fatima-esque features - the "Oh My Jesus" prayer, which was not in use in Japan and Sr. Agnes had never heard it, was repeated, exactly word for word as in Fatima. But along those lines, consider all the things popular in Catholic circles today which Our Lady did NOT mention at Akita. If not, is it because she forgot? Or maybe because they're not authentic prophecy?
Does anyone else feel that it may or may not be wise for Vigano to be saying as much as he is? I don't know. Other men near to the top must know the Secret, too, or else have a pretty good idea of what it contains or infers, yet they keep silent. Is it overly pessimistic or overly vocal for Archbishop Vigano to speak as he does? If these things can be softened or altered through prayer and through sacrifice, would it not be wiser to focus on that, instead?
"If these things can be softened or altered through prayer and through sacrifice, would it not be wiser to focus on that, instead?" At one time I prayed to have things altered, but the more I thought about it, the more I've come to the conclusion that perhaps it is time for our chastisement and purification. I love our country but we have slowly declined and turned away from God, this accelerated in the 60s. I can see why the "cup" has boiled over now more than before. So much suffering caused by our own hands. Although I do ask for mercy for humanity during the chastisement, my prayers are mostly focused on begging for "HIS WILL" be done.
You brought up an important point. I read somewhere recently and I regret that I don’t remember where, that the chastisement will come first from the consequences caused by our own hands. The second part will come from God. I wish I could remember more.
Yes, believe me...I'm no misanthrope. I think humanity can be beautiful IF only we come to the realization of the true nature of reality, which is that GOD exists. From that acceptance of that reality can humanity really FULLY learn to love and respect one another and value life. Perhaps that's why GOD needs to send that Chastisement. That will turn man's focus and the acceptance of his existence. NOT ALL...but definitely some if not most.
Yes this is the place I have come to as well. His Will. First last and always. We have overfilled the chalice and as a Church (and a nation) we have chased after foreign gods. (To use a phrase from the OT. ) perhaps I've been in shut down too long but I find myself praying Come Lord Jesus. Maranatha!
Nothing like a little lockdown! Even in lockdown, the clamoring of evil is still rampant outside the walls.
So much sadness, so much suffering...even now during this shutdown. I hear of abuses between husbands and wives and children. You would think that one would be looking around and adjust their lives and using this time to try to shore-up that love for each other and neighbor, instead we continue to kick and fight with each other. Truly we act like children.
This saddens me so much. Why aren't people facing into their own mortality--it daily threatens-- and adjusting their lives accordingly. More love more patience more sorrow for our lack of charity. This time is a gift. To squander it in evil practices seems unthinkable.
