I am curious, are any of you on this thread involved in your local elections or running for a seat yourself ? I have been considering it lately. In Ireland, obviously there is a big push on to get as many prolife people as possible elected at various levels. But on considering it, I am torn between wanting to run for a seat and just leaving it to use these days to pray. On the one hand, I think help to reclaim power in different levels for pro life causes, and then on the other hand I can't help but think that this leftist pro gay, pro abortion wave is going to run until the end until God intervenes so it may be useless to try run for seats when it may be more beneficial to use the time to think of a way to tell more people about God. What are your thoughts on this ?
I think that anyone who runs for a seat at the local level who is for upholding the kingdom of Christ is in for a steep uphill battle anywhere in the West. Here in the US we are led to believe that we seem to be more concerned with the economy and financial comfort (like good communists) than our children and national values. It shows, in those who are elected year after year and in unspoken of things such as pornography being the vast majority of internet traffic into our homes. Add into things the rampant voter fraud being committed and the odds are stacked highly against you but we are all called where the spirit takes us to go. We simply have to be willing to follow and even if it does not end up where we think it ought to we usually find that there is a purpose higher than that which we espoused from the beginning. I think if the spirit is leading you to fight in this way then you should do it.
If you feel like running for a local office to make a difference, I think it is a good thing. You may want to run for an office where there is not much competition and would not involve much expense.
Do it...if it’s Gods calling it will happen. Then use it as spiritual tool...pray before and after events. Even if it is in silence. Be example to others. Invite other leaders to participate with you in church. Be a soldier of Christ. Br. al
Ia dmire you for considering it. Very, very difficult. But it does take special souls to do it. It would be terrible if no one would do it. Bless you for even considering it. Luke 14 The Cost of Being a Disciple 25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. 28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ 31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples. 34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out. “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
THIS. I can't beat Padraig for succinctness - but this nails it. Politics cannot be abandoned. Even good Christian candidates who fail to achieve office may yet achieve something very, very good. They provide an alternative, so sorely needed, for voters and they heighten awareness that alternatives DO exist to our apparently monotone (and monotonous) secular "options". While I am responding here, Immaculata, let me also say I've been meaning to say how moved I was by your personal testimony. In fact, I still hope to respond properly to that thread, which speaks to my own experience with the New Age. I just struggle to find time, but I mean to say more when I can ...
I would consider running for public office, but the fact is I could't even win in a parish election, as things have radically changed since the turn of the mellenium in society and in Church. Heck, it's hard enough being a dad or a mom and having your kids listen to any wisdom these days. All true signs of our times and it's prophecied to get a whole lot worse before the era of peace finally comes about.
You might want to work on a pro life committee Pray outside of abortion clinics Be in charge of a pro-life group in your parish or diocese? As an alternative to running for office? Just throwing out a suggestion......
Thanks Roger, I enjoyed listening to your testimony too especially how you wrote in your diary that you could sense something and if you could have it you would never thirst again. I thought that was amazing considering you had not read Christs words about living water in which you will thirst no more. I intend to read more of your website too when I get a chance.
All of your comments are helping me to decide. Fatima, your comment about how things are to get worse, is the thought which is making me hesitate wondering if it would be a waste to enter. Its hard to know what to do. It might just be anger fueling my ideas about running in an election, as in wanting to get into a room with them crazy pro abort politicians just to give them a piece of my mind when maybe the wise thing to do would be to do as HeavenlyHosts suggests and use the time to focus more on spreading the word of God. I am slightly worried that if I were to run for a local seat, (though I know its an extremely rare chance to even get one), then it would take a lot of time away from prayer and possibly even create anger in me. I really honestly don't know if I could keep my cool if I was ever in the same room with the likes of Simon Harris, or Zappone or Varadkar. I really know we are to have charity for all of God's people but when them people are so blatantly evil even despite warnings from others around them, it can be hard. I happened to meet one of them in the street before the referendum, and it was not so calm! Actually whenever I see them, I realise I am far from a saint and I need to pray a lot more. I am going to keep considering and praying about it. Hopefully I make the right choice.
I have the same issue...keeping my cool about immoral political types. I worked in the field for 35 years...for ProLife.... I’m in a conservative county and that made it tolerable...but political types are mostly phonies...looking for a block of votes to get elected. You really have to hold your nose. I supported Cruz nationally over trump...but I’m happy that he’s proven me wrong about him. So far, so good...MAGA
For me, I want to spend as much time in front of the Blessed Sacrament as I can. Like during my lunch break or in the evenings making reparation for my sins and the sins of the world in front of our Eucharistic Lord. It is time to enter into a deep life of prayer, especially the rosary and the chaplet of Divine Mercy. I am not going to say what others need to do, but I know what God is asking of me in these most critical times. If you truly think your one voice can make a difference in your parish council or in society then go for it. I know that in my Catholic church, both local and globally, has lost its salt, what chance does my entering into a fruitless quest bring to make an difference? I know my prayers and sacrifices will help. That I know is what my children, relatives, friends, society and church needs and God will bless them all through. We have to use our time very wisely, in this moment, before the global collapse takes place.
If you feel called to do this, I encourage you to follow that call. Discern if it is a knee jerk temptation or the Holy Spirit. There's a new up and coming party that discovered in the last year here in the U.S., which has a platform of Pro-Life and social justice. I have mentioned it a couple time on the forum. If you're curious and in the US, email me. I'll send you the name and basic info. There are a few of us here in my home city that are starting conversation of getting together to discuss how to make the party much more publicly known and promote the platform. While a couple of us don't have much free time, we need to find some way to break the monopoly of the 2 party system that always bears 90% focus. Don't take that % literally.
I can't agree more about spending more time in front of the Blessed Sacrament and praying for reparation. I feel additionally what I can do is keep my focus where it is, as it is about to increase: new Diocesan Singles ministry, choir at my new parish, hosting the Pilgrimage focused on our Blessed Mother (Queen) and Christ (King), redemptive suffering full of love visiting my Mom. I must get better at preparing myself for weekly Bible study in my new church. If I could condense my photos on my phone, I would upload a photos of His Divine Mercy and one of my favorite Adoration Chapels. There is a lot of hand wringing going on..... Remember, we must truly internalize what we pray. Pray we believe and live what we pray. We do - JESUS I TRUST YOU. You know our concerns. Drench us in your peace and reassurance. All will be well with us if we keep our hearts minds and souls in YOU! We must keep ourselves ready for your coming. We have been told numerous times through your prophets, soon your Body Blood Soul and Divinity will be difficult to find. Maybe we are beginning to understand what this actually means. Perhaps it does mean consecrations will no longer be valid. I don't know. I have thought it mean your Blessed Sacrament would no longer physically be present to venerate an receive. Maybe it will still look like it but not truly be so. Until then, we are to receive you and venerate you often. Your mother's Immaculate Heart WILL Triumph!! We urgently pray this will be in our lifetimes. We have the assurance of your prophets this will occur. How glorious to have confidence within our lifetimes, every knee WILL bend to you. We fall on our faces to you. All the Saints and Heavenly Hosts, surround us in protection and prayer!
