Pope Francis in his address for the care of creation on 1st September praised the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations despite the fact that a key goal of the UN mandate directly contradicts Catholic teaching.

    MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS
    POPE FRANCIS
    FOR THE CELEBRATION OF THE
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE CARE OF CREATION

    1 SEPTEMBER 2016

Show Mercy to our Common Home

The protection of our common home requires a growing global political consensus. Along these lines, I am gratified that in September 2015 the nations of the world adopted the Sustainable Development Goals.

    http://w2.vatican.va/content/france..._20160901_messaggio-giornata-cura-creato.html

    Let us examine goal 3.7

3.7 By 2030, ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programmes.

    https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/post2015/transformingourworld

The term “sexual and reproductive health care services” is defined by United Nations bodies as including contraception, including forms that have an abortifacient mode of effect. The UN Population fund states that “sexual and reproductive health” includes access for all to “the safe, effective, affordable and acceptable contraception method of their choice.” Furthermore, it is used by many international governments, including that of the United States, and by agencies such as Planned Parenthood, to include other forms of abortion.

(And don't come with the reply that the Pope doesn't know that the UN supports reproductive rights!)

I was disturbed to see this too, Garabandal. The UN is evil, and I really dislike seeing our pope praising such an organization. :(
My conclusions when I see negative reporting about Pope Francis is that either he knows what he is doing and its part of a plan to bring people to God (even though I may not understand how) or its all part of prophesy leading to the foretold end times. Either way it gives me peace.:notworthy:

I really think this points to the end of the influence of the Catholic Church as a serious force to influence the world to create a Culture of Life and Love.

Pope Francis has just capitulated to the forces of the new world order as enshrined in the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Sure if you agree with the aims of the UN Sustainable Goals which include contraception and abortion and promote the Culture of Death and Globalization then I think you are on the wrong side of History.

I will make it clear now. Pope Francis does not speak for me when he accepts the UN Sustainable Development Goals as a legitimate way to create a Global political consensus.

The Pope's shocking statement on the environment
    By Phil Lawler (bio - articles - email) | Sep 02, 2016

Pope Francis has often surprised, confused, and dismayed me. But nothing that he has said or done thus far in his pontificate has shocked me as much as his Message on World Day of Prayer for Creation.

What troubles me about that message is not the Pope’s call for care of the environment. Any Christian—any deist, for that matter—should recognize the moral obligation to be a good steward of Creation. If hot-button political debates have predisposed some of us to be leery of environmentalist rhetoric, all the more reason for a Roman Pontiff to seek a different perspective, more consistent with the faith.

Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI made their own strong appeals for ecological sensitivity. Although at times their statements made me uncomfortable, I could not disagree with their overall thrust. (And it is not the responsibility of Vicar of Christ to keep me comfortable; quite the contrary.) Pope Francis developed these same arguments in greater depth, and with greater vigor, in Laudato Si’. While I had some reservations about some sections of that encyclical, I could and did accept the basic message.

So again—I stress the point because I don’t want to be caught up in the wrong argument—I am not disputing the Pope’s argument that Christians should exercise greater care for the environment. What troubles me is another, more specific aspect of this message: the assertion that care for the environment should be understood as one of the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.

Many of the public statements that Pope Francis has issued have raised eyebrows. More than a few have struck me as imprudent, even fundamentally misguided. But in every previous case, the Pope’s statements could be interpreted so as to conform to previous Church teaching. If his statements had caused confusion—and many of them had—a future clarification could resolve the problem.

But now Pope Francis has added to the traditional lists of corporal and spiritual works of mercy. Unless we simply ignore his statement, young Catholics of future generations will be taught that there are eight works in each category. Alongside feeding the hungry and clothing the naked, there will be listed caring for the environment. Alongside instructing the ignorant and admonishing sinners, there again will be…what, exactly? care for the environment? That change cannot easily be undone.

Let me pause here to confess that I was shocked—I might even say scandalized—when St. John Paul II altered the Rosary by adding the Luminous Mysteries. Could he do that, I wondered? Could a Pope, on his on initiative, without consultation, change a great Catholic tradition? And wouldn’t the addition of the five new mysteries upset the ancient pattern in which the 150 Hail Mary’s reflected the 150 Psalms of the Divine Office? Out of a sense of docility, and not without reluctance, I tried praying the new Luminous Mysteries, and found that they added to my appreciation of the Rosary, and of how our Lord gradually pulled back the veil that hid his divine Nature. Looking back now, I see the addition as entirely organic, enriching the contemplation of the life of Christ.

But In adding to the list of works of mercy, Pope Francis is not making an organic change. He is putting things—virtuous actions, I will concede—in a category where they do not belong. When the Pope recommends turning off unnecessary lights, for example, he is making an unarguably positive suggestion; it is a good thing to do. But it is not a work of mercy, as we have always understood that term.

The works of mercy—as they were understood until yesterday—all have a human person as both subject and object. The object was a person in some kind of need. The subject was you or me: a person challenged to imitate Christ by filling that need. In the new works that Pope Francis puts forward, the object is the natural environment, not a human soul. And I fear that many people, reading this message, will conclude that the government should make laws to protect the environment—so that the government is the subject, rather than you and me.

Yes, each of us can do his own part to care for the environment—and let me say it yet again, I fully endorse that proposition. But when it is reduced to a matter of turning off lights and joining car pools and separating paper from plastics, that recommendation, however benign, seems somehow beneath the dignity of the papal office. There is a real danger that by plunging into this sort of mundane specificity, the Pope will dilute the authority of his own teaching office—a danger that his condemnations of blasphemy and abortion will be taken as the same sort of “nice” suggestions as his call for car pools.

Please notice—one last time—that in this brief essay I have not questioned the science behind some of the Pope’s arguments—although I do see legitimate questions to be asked at another time. My concern here is exclusively with the Pope’s willingness to raise environmental concerns to the level of the works of mercy.

Proper stewardship of the environment is a legitimate concern for Christians: a moral imperative. But it is not one of the two great commandments to love God and love our neighbors. The papal preacher, Father Raneiro Cantalamessa put things in the proper perspective, I think, in his own meditation for the World Day of Prayer for Creation : “An ecology without a doxology makes the universe opaque.”

I am convinced that the United Nations is run by Satan. I don't mean influenced by Satan and Satanists but run by Satan through Satanists, lock, stock and barrel. You only have to look at some of their policies to see the truth of this.

People who cosey up to the UN are coseying up to Satan , it is as simple as that.

The biggest problem with Pope is his, seemingly, total lack of awareness/understanding of the secular Media which is 99% Far-Left & godless ..... unless you consider Mother Earth a god!? You would think, by now, Pope Francis would have figured out that the press is "Cherry-Picking" his words and twisting his statements to conform with the Left's godless Agenda. They have done it on Abortion, Gay Marriage, Capitalism vs Socialism and the Environment!! All of the "Above" leading to confusion, division among Catholics, Orthodox and Protestants ............... and slimey phony "Catholics" like Billary's ButtBoy Kaine, VP Biden and SanFran Nanny are using the Pope as a political tool to entice "Pope Francis Catholics" to vote The Party of Abortion, Perversion & godless Government. Oh! .. in case Ya missed it "Over-There. The Liberal Democrats and the US Media are using the term "Pope Francis "Catholics"! It's nothing less than an abomination and sacrilege .... and where are the USA Bishops ...Eh!!!???

I am not sure what is going through the Holy Father's mind Denis. Perhaps coming from South America gives him a different take on things. The only thing I know is whenever I see a vehicle or building or person with a UN logo on it I want to run and hide. Those people scare me, they are the enemy, no doubt about it.

Though I seeem to remember several Popes did address the UN, but that was years ago before it was fully taken over by evil.

The battle currently is for souls... these things are going to happen no matter what. The Prophecies are clear, and when I look at the messages of Medjugorje and around the world its to pray for souls. It appears the chastisement is imminent.

The grace of peace is getting stronger within myself as the days get closer to the chastisement. Even if the enemies come out in the open, there is little I can do in terms of direct actions. What I can do though is crusade through prayer and the rosary. My understanding is that satan was given this time to test the Church, much like how Job was tested. The Mystical City of God and Our Lady of Good Success speaks about these times.

While I do agree that we need to be faithful stewards of the gifts God has given us in terms of the environment, the Graces that come for a clean environment stem from following the Laws of God. If our souls are collectively disordered it will appear in the environment through war, disease and defilement. If we followed the Laws of God there would be more than enough food to feed the world, everywhere would have access to clean water, and everyone would be content with a simple life. Mainly because a simple life within the Church is the most beautiful and we would be content. Graces of new inventions would follow that would address many of the issues we have.

Time is short now though, and our souls are the stakes. There is greater graces available in the world as it grows further from God. The last two messages from medjugorje are frightening, and for me now it is apparent that prayer needs to be a full time job. Today I am going to get a whiteboard and putting it in my living room writing down everything to pray for daily. Time is short, and right now feels like the calm before the storm. Once the year of Mercy has concluded, the time for Justice will arrive.

Our Lady has warned us several times in her messages from throughout the world that very hard times are ahead. This should make us pause deeply in prayer. For if someone like the Mother of Sorrows warns of such hard times, a woman so wel laquainted with the very hardest of times we are in a sturggle to come indeed.
Let us pray for constancy to the very end thought it comes to the shedding of our blood, for al li nthis life is passing, the Eteranl Heavn, our true home awaits.

Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs, pray for us. That we may be constant and firm.

    To the End.

I am dismayed at the level of carelessness the Pope and any speechwriters share in this. I'm sure it will be argued that he has made no change in doctrine, but I'm certain most will assume that Pope Francis' unqualified gratitude means he wholeheartedly endorses the SDGs. And you are correct, garabandal, that goal 3.7 is undeniably opposed to Church teaching. Also, this speech was not an off-the-cuff statement. It was written beforehand and was probably reviewed prior to delivery. Occasionally I visit a Protestant site that considers the Pope as an antiChrist. If they were to comment about this aspect of his speech, I would have absolutely no rebuttal!:censored:

    Lord Jesus,

Fill your Vicar with your loving presence and compassion toward others. Grant him, O Holy Spirit, through the intercession of Mary, a wisdom which clearly instructs the hearts of the faithful. May all he does in word and deed give glory to God.
And grant me a humble heart and submissive spirit!:notworthy::)

Just dipping into the forum after a tough week, I'm more saddened than surprised to read about the Pope plugging the Soros line. Anyone who still thinks the Pope is unaware of the impact of his statements must have their head buried in the sand.

We have more than our share of Pope Francis Catholics on this side of the Atlantic. Consider yourself lucky, CrewDog, that the US Bishops aren't (yet) providing them with a captive audience at Holy Mass. One of my family was in Knock for the feast day last year when none other than Peter Sutherland, one of our most prominent Pope Francis Catholics, gave a speech at Holy Mass in the Basilica. In case Sutherland's name is unfamiliar to you, here's an interview he gave last year to the Irish Times (our version of the NYT): http://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-...kel-fragile-europe-sneering-ireland-1.2454732 Note his reaction to the comments about his being able to escape to a gated community in Switzerland and also the Goldman Sachs measly donation of £2 to the Syrian refugees. No fear of his children or grandchildren being adversely impacted by globalisation or mass migration.

I try to get to Knock in honour of Our Lady and also because it evokes strong memories of my mother who never missed the annual parish pilgrimage. That annual pilgrimage was a big deal in our house. With a houseful of kids, she didn't get many outings and could only afford to bring one or two of us with her but always brought home a medal and a stick of rock (candy) for those of us who were left at home. My dear mother must be turning in her grave. I'll still go to Knock but will visit mid-week in future to avoid being subjected to NWO indoctrination at Holy Mass.

Hard times yes. But I don;t mean to be an old misery guts. When I look back on my own life I find it was the times of greatest trial that were the times of the greatest growth, both in a spiritual and in a human sense. As someone once said it is the troubles we are sent and the way we handle them that make us the persons we are. Well then since we are to be sent great trials we must be called to be great saints. What a delight and joy! What could be more wonderful! Thank you Jesus.

I don;t know if people have been following recent events n the USA. They have been so instructive and eye opening. Great wild fires in west in the last day a huricane in Florida and on top of all this a quake in Oklahoma shaking seven US States.

How can we not think and pray about these thing? How could they be anything but dramitc signs of the times.

But I was thinking about what scripture teaches us about these things and their inner meaning. How are we to read the Signs of the Times in these goings on? Well when God gets angry in the old Testament it iseems to me His great, great focus is on The Chosen People. So I think God's Great Focus at the minute is on the Church. Or to put it another way, God is not primarily angry at the world as a whole, His prime anger in the first place is in what is going on in the Church.

This being so, we must point the finger in the first place , not at others but at ourselves. We must be ewary that the salt is ndeed loosing its flavour and we the People of God are loosingour salty flavour.

    Matthew 5:13

    Salt and Light
12Rejoice and celebrate, because great is your reward in heaven; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets before you. 13You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its savor, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.…
