Thanks for the updates. Said a quick Hail Mary for him before I get distracted. Will pray for him at Mass Sunday. He must be very strong to be doing as well as he is with this disease. Special prayers for his wife who must feel torn in two.
Praying for Michaels' healing and his family, especially his wife and children. God Bless them. His last lecture before being struck by necrotising fasciitisis was on necrotising fasciitisis !That is amazing! God works in mysterious ways.
Thanks to all for your prayers. Michael lost his arm and a large part of his side and his speech and is incredibly thin and week but is now breathing on his own and can communicate with letter cards. He is incredibly brave having refused morphine that was causing confusion and hallucination and insisted on seeing his injuries as soon as possible. He is recovering inch by inch from his ravaging illness.
Thanks Padraig but Michael is not a priest. He is a university professor and leading light in the search for a cure for breast cancer. His Aunt Clare, my favourite sister in law, goes every year to Lourdes to work with the poor. She is a retired nurse. When me and my mates were young and wild after a night on the town we would end up on Clare's lounge floor and in the morning she would make us all a huge fry up. Best hangover cure ever.
As we head into the new life of Easter I am happy to relate that Michael's condition continues to improve. His doctor brother Martin stayed with him to allay his anxiety as the ITU nurse removed his gastro nasal tube. Then he had the last cannula removed. He is now free of all tubes, drips, catheters and monitors. He is still very frail and has developed diabetes as a legacy of his illness. He has, however, even been able to take a few steps. His family are so pleased to be able to do practical things for him. He is facing everything with courage and dignity. My niece Gemma wet shaves him and his mum Lynda is so happy to be able to cook for him. Thank you for all your prayers now needed that he stays free from infection. I am thinking of Brian K whose condition at this time is more critical than Michael's and for whom many are praying on this site. God bless Brian and Michael, their families and their friends.
