We have been pretty self sufficient for the past 25 years.

Thanks, Mark! I'll try it on our apple trees as well.

They love anything acidic. Pot ash pine needles stuff like that.

We also. Thank God. We used to have chickens but then there came a time we were traveling a lot so finally had to give it up. I miss them.

Amen! It is important to remember that all the Sacred Hosts in every tabernacle are destined for our hearts. What an incomparable witness of Christ's Humility! Praise you, Jesus!

We've had what appears to be a record-setting pace for low temperatures this November. The usual average daily high for the first two weeks in November is 50F. We've been stuck in the 20s and 30s and tonight is dropping to 10F. We average about 10 inches of snow each November, but we already have reached that with 2 weeks to go. The heaviest snow we've had since 2000 has been 30 inches for the month, but we might break that. Thank goodness we live in a rural setting and have a wood-burning stove! After lovingly stuffing ourselves full of raspberries for two months, we've packed away at least 20 quarts( to pay for them in the stores would cost a fortune!). We'll be doing up applesauce in the next two weeks. Ger and I plan to can up some beef and chicken to boot.

Safe in the Providence of God!

Yep. That's us too. We are picking up a butchered pig next week. A friend raises them. That should provide a lot of meat for the winter. I buy my chicken and beef from The local natural foods place. Locally farm grown. More expensive but much safer I think. We've had those same temps. So so cold so early. This coming week sounds more like what we expect in Nov. 40's-high 30's.
We had bumper crop of raspberries too!! So delicious.

Our Empire apple tree had it's most prolific year, yet. A great year for fruits, though our grape vines did not fare well. About 5 years back Ger and I bought 3 Japanese nut trees. The one at camp did not fare well either, but the two up at our house really took off this year. We'll probably begin harvesting in 2021. The nuts are suppose to taste very similar to walnuts. We'll be at war with squirrels come that fall. Anyone ever have to deal with squirrels? We could just leash our Wheaton terrier to the trunk of one of them. Devin goes bonkers when he sees squirrels!

We have bought beef to can in the recent past from nearby Amish. That was when there were only a handful of Amish farms in the area. They're pushing about 50 farms locally, now. They don't have to worry about urban creep up here.

    Safe Under Mary's Mantle!

I have several walnut tress and several squirrels. Sure they get their share, but they can't come close to getting a fraction of what drops off the tree. Walnuts are good for lowering blood sugar for those with diabetes.

Black walnut trees? Just found out this fall we have them all over our land. How the heck do you open these things efficiently?

Many Amish are moving up here too buying derelict farms and making them work.

It’s nice to see that so many of you are well prepared. We poor city folk are going to have to rely on God to take care of us because we have no walnut trees, fruit trees, large gardens or places to keep animals - with the exception of our family pets. Maybe we should just move in with one of you. Jesus, we trust in you!

With a hammer/pliers. Or you can do like my uncle did and drive over them with your car;) and let them dry out in your garage attic or such.

Many city slickers will be moved by angels to places of refuge when the time comes. We will see things we have only read about and dreamed about and things we never thought possible coming soon. Buckle up!

After posting my comment above this morning, I went off to Mass and Holy Hour of Adoration. While in Adoration, I thought I had picked up one of Luisa's volumes, but picked up her letters by mistake. As I usually do, I opened it at random and read this from Luisa's letter to Federico Abresch (#87)):
"I want to tell you a secret which has been promised by the Divine Fiat: It will take to heart the destiny of all those who will live from It, and will provide them with everything they need, both for the soul and the body. It will make them lack nothing, and if necessary, even by miraculous means. We will find ourselves in the condition of Creation, in which one created thing has no need of the other, but all are rich in themselves. However, they remain in highest accord and never move from their place. Our place is the Divine Will. If we live in It, It will keep us at Its table and nothing will be lacking to us. How good is the Lord! Let us thank Him from the heart."
This would seem to confirm your post above, Mark. Do you think Luisa was trying to tell me (us) something?
