Have just watched this film because there's some hype about it. It portrays four very young pubescent French girls practising for a dance competition, and I found it disturbing on two levels. First, the obvious sexualisation of young girls dressing and behaving in an "adult" way with tight revealing clothes. Secondly I've no doubt that some young girls do want to dress and behave like this.

I'm surprised that a film like this was allowed to be made in an age of child protection issues and I wonder about the emotional well-being of the young actresses involved

For now they're probably (children) elated over all the attention they're getting.

And in 10 years' time (or less) they'll likely already feel "old", maybe have a child (or abortion) or two, and wonder "What's next?" while reaching for a bottle of booze or pills. :(

I well recall, in my teenaged years, others who already looked dull-eyed, tired, and burnt out by the grand old age of 20. :( Hardened, dull eyes. And these were people who never had a lick of fame, were born/raised in average homes in small Midwestern towns. I remember thinking I never want to become like that. It wasn't a snob reaction; I felt sorry for them and wondered why/how. (n)

These girls in "Cuties"? We should pray for them. And others. So many young and famous come to very bad endings, usually still young.
