I only saw a headline on this and the blame being put on Saint JPII and Benedict16. I read no more as I would have become very uncharitable towards the authors. Most of us don't need this report to tell us what happened. It does however reveal much about the authors!

  8. Everyone should watch this video. Many revelations. This man is risking his career (and pray he be protected) by saying this.

Having listened to the video and read the linked article on the thread, it appears McCarrick took advantage of the fact that the measures to correct his misconduct by imposing restrictions on him verbally could be dismissed (disobeyed); and he could carry on regardless as soon as a new Pope (Francis) was elected. The verbal restrictions in 2006 were followed by written restrictions in 2008, not formal enough in McCarrick's mind to get the message across.

It looks awful like the three strikes and you are out rule used in the work place. First verbal warning, Second written warning Third you're fired.

I believe McCarrick was the beneficiary of Mercy in action on Pope Benedict's watch; but finally Justice caught up with him when Pope Francis was forced to see the man for who he really was. God have mercy on McCarrick's soul.

This is so moving and powerful. And courageous. Robert Moynihan is a true Catholic hero and so is Archbishop Vigano.

A Bishop or Cardinal or Pope facing a child molesting priest or Bishop would, I would have hoped have had the same urgent urge I would have had , namely to fly across he table break his nose with a right swing and then follow up with a really good kicking.:)

Afterwards kick the scoundrel out of the priesthood and the Church without a dime, and inform the police and the entire planet warning them what a total slime ball they had to deal with.

Sadly this very sensible and well earned chastisement never seemed to happen. They were sent to treatment centres, to other parishes , they remained in the priesthood and their wickedness was covered up.

In my view the Bishops, Cardinals and Popes who cover up such things are even worse then the child molestors themselves....and if their were any Justice in the World they would also get a good beating and go to prison themselves; hopefully forever.

    I'm not holding my breath.

I did read in the past, and it might have been on this Forum; Years ago there was a Bishop somewhere in America who had a Priest in his diocese who was an ex boxer, and if the Bishop heard of any misconduct, he was supposed to send the naughty Priest to see the ex boxer Priest, who gave the therapy you Padraig dream of, for those who were sent to him. Apparently he would beat the living daylights out of them. Cheaper than therapy and more effective. IMHO

    Can anyone remember that post.

  14. The problem with kicking them out is if you don't have enough evidence to convict them, or if law enforcement won't press charges, you have no control over them afterward and they will molest again.

If you keep them in you at least have a shot at sending them off to a monastery for the rest of their lives with no kids around.

I ask you all to pray for a high school classmate of mine, and that he doesn't hurt anyone.
He was an oddball and I barely knew him. When he invited me and my friends to this grad party we met his mother...An artist who was into new age, divorced and was making advances on us 17 and 18 year old boys.
He entered the priesthood perhaps 10 years later.
I saw him at a reunion and ask about his parish. All he could talk about was how he turned it around finacially, absolutely nothing about the spiritual health of his parish.
He also seemed unconcerned that another classmate was leaving the Catholic faith.
Then the molestation stories started making the news around 2002.
They found homosexual porn on this laptop. But the cops said they could not be absolutely sure it was underage images, they were at least borderline...
He had Google searched using "boys" as part of the search.
No one has ever accused him of abuse but the porn is a warning sign.

He was striped of his ability to administer the sacraments, and is monitored going on 17 years now, but is not isolated.
If they completely laicize him they have no control over him.
He admits to having a porn problem in the past, but will not own up to the underage attraction.
I talked to him at a reunion, He was considering suing the Diocese.
I assume he still gets paid.
He has no idea I am not sympathetic.
There are too many similarities to the McCarrick story.

Pray for the protection of all youth.

somebody threw an odd number of 60 percent of priests today are homosexual.....I'm not saying they are not celibate, but they lean to homosexuality....have you heard this?

You say he was an 'oddball'. That seems to have been a necessary characteristic for the priesthood in the last few decades. Candidates are supposed to undergo intensive psychological testing but this seems instead to have been used to ensure that the perverted oddballs were the only ones ordained.

In the sixties, there existed 'junior seminaries' where boys could go at the age of 11 to begin training for the priesthood! There was a junior seminary for a missionary order just a few miles from my childhood home and I knew a couple of boys who went there. It has long since closed but I googled it just today out of curiosity about my friends. I found a record of reminiscences by a former student (not one I knew) and this included a photo of one of my friends. Neither the blogger nor my friend were ordained in fact only about 1 in 20 of the students who entered junior seminaries ever were. Anyway, the bloggers' account of his days there were uniformly positive and he recounted happy times, lots of football and exercise, making life-long friendships and a spiritually and intellectually enriching experience. I thought 'Well it's good to read something positive about the Church'.

Then I made further searches (I wish that I hadn't) to discover that a few years after the original bloggers' time at the seminary, several students had suffered sexual abuse by priests but did not report it to anyone until decades later when such cases were becoming generally known. Certainly not all priests on the staff were abusers and not all boys were abused but over several years a number of boys were abused by more than one of the staff. I can't seem to find any institution for young people within the Church that was not infested with some of these perverted ghouls.
