Saw this on the news and heard about it before. Squatters are taking over vacant property. If you leave for vaca for a couple weeks or months be prepared to find someone else living in your home. In Ocala Fla man was gone to New Zealand for seven months. When he returned he found his house trashed and things missing. He slept in the closet to catch the squatter. When the alarm went off he pulled his gun out and shot at the door to scare off the squatter. The squatter ran to the police and said he was shot and there was an argument on who owned the property. Apparently squatter thought it was his, he ended up being arrested. In Chicago a similar situation. A woman was trying to sell a property. Someone moved in and presented a lease. It was fake. But authorities said it could take 18 months to get her out because squatters have rights. The realtor offered her $2000 to move out but she demanded $8000. The world is totally out of control. Be careful when you leave home!
I've been following this. Its happening everywhere. If you must be gone get a property agent to supervise your home. What angers me is the law. You have to go to court to reclaim what belongs to you in the first place.
