Maybe I worded it clumsily. God created the universe and His Passive Will simultaneously permitted the rejection of the Good. As He stands outside time, and is omniscient, He would have known of it as an inevitable consequence of free will. As His Mercy, as with the Good, is an intrinsic part of His Nature and therefore Perfect, He will show it in perfectly. Therefore, I would think He will not show Mercy if to do so goes against the Nature of Mercy, which is also Himself. He is not arbitrary, but entirely consistent and unchanging. Of course, we have no idea of the actual bounds of His Mercy, so we are advised to remain perched on that tight-rope suspended between the two errors of Presumption and Despair. I agree, you didn't mention 'universal salvation', but I think great ebullience concerning Mercy can require a judicious mention of its risks. [I don't think the Beast is from the human realm].
If anyone has the time, I recently watched Kenneth Brannaghs brilliant movie on how the Nazi's devised and subsequently enacted policy on their so called 'Jewish problem'. Its a true story of how differing viewpoints and personalities converge, and it takes place in one room. I found it absolutely riveting. I can't recommend this movie highly enough.

Matthew 10:28, Luke 12:5 He said to fear God who is able to destroy both body and soul in hell (Isaiah 10:16-18) Matthew 11:23 Heaven is above, hell is beneath Matthew 16:18 The gates of hell shall not prevail against the church Matthew 18:8-9 There is fire in hell and last for ever Matthew 23:15-33 He said the Pharisees and their converts were children of hell and said to them how can ye escape the damnation of hell? Mark 9:43, 45 The fire is not quenched and the worm dies not in hell (Isaiah 66:22-24) This is no parable. Hell is real and people do go there. "More souls go to Hell because of sins of the flesh than for any other reason" (Lucia of Fatima) Modernists downplay Hell. Christ did not.
I'd recommend a book of essays by the very orthodox English Catholic writer, Piers Paul Read, "Hell and Other Destinations", which deals in detail with Christ's teachings on Hell and Damnation, among other themes. For myself, the most important book I have ever read. The one which for me most finally led to the Truth fully sinking in. I'd recommend him as a good Catholic author, generally. Most of his books are novels, but all, bar his first one or two feature underlying Catholic themes. He writes well, too.
Many people seem to have trouble distinguishing between the concept of 'many' and the concept of 'all'. This occurred in the liturgy as well, which is why then Pope Benedict had to reinforce the correct wording. Many is a word that one should be cautious of overly depending on. There are several billion people on the planet at this time. 'Many' being saved might mean 90% of them. However, only 1% of them might make Heaven (via Purgatory in a lot of cases). This would imply several tens of millions of people entering Heaven-a multiple of the number of people alive at the time of Our Lord. This would still be perfectly interpretable as 'many'. Of course, we all hope and pray that the %age is far closer to the 90, hopefully even beyond, than to the 1. But I wouldn't gamble my soul on it.
That's a shame. Certainly I will defend my point of view, and I hope that the people I engage in conversation will do the same. It isn't necessary to be disagreeable while disageeeing, and I don't believe I've done that. But if you find disagreement itself to be disagreeable, then perhaps we'd better not talk to one another.

Wellllll....I don't know about Enoch, since it isn't Canon,but your point is a very good one - there is nothing new under the sun. Every age has its particular style of evil, but it's really just the same old sins, repackaged to tempt and deceive a new generation. The devil "goes about like a lion", seeking the destruction of our souls, but creativity is not his strong suit.
