Mary on Penance Conchita said “ One day, during an apparition of Our Lady, we were wearing a "cilicio" around our waists (a chain worn for penance), although very loosely and, so that she would realize that we were wearing it, we would touch it every in a while. She said to us, “Yes, I know that you’re wearing it. But that’s not exactly what I ask of you all, nor is it what is most pleasing to me. What most pleases me is your fidelity in your daily, ordinary life.”
TODAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY: SEPTEMBER 29, 1967: In the evening of the Feast of St. Michael, Conchita, preferring not to join this group in prayer, rather climbed up to the Pines with a few other persons. SAINT (Pope) John Paul II - on Garabandal There is a book on Garabandal, written by Albrecht Weber in 1993, entitled Garabandal Der Zeigefmger Gottes (Garabandal: The Finger of God), of which a first edition copy was presented to Pope John Paul II. He later asked his secretary, Fr. (now Archbishop) Stanislaus Dziwisz, to write to the author. In the subsequent printing (2000) of the book, on page 19, a portion of the Pope's message is reprinted, as follows:"May God reward you for everything. Especially for the deep love with which you are making the events connected with Garabandal more widely known. May the Message of the Mother of God find an entrance into hearts before it is too late. As an expression of joy and gratitude, the Holy Father gives you his apostolic blessing."Weber writes, "From the attached greeting in the Pope's own handwriting, with his signature, it is clear how deep an interest he has in the events of Garabandal, and how anxious he is that they should be made known in a credible way." On July 23, 1988, during a special general audience with the Pope at the Vatican ... "special" because it was held on Saturday, rather than the usual Wednesday... Father Robert introduced Garabandal Visionary Mari-Loli and family to him. Father Robert who was holding 7 year old Maria Dolores, one of the three Lafleur children, said to the Pope: "Your Holiness, a special blessing for your littlest children who come on behalf of The Blessed Virgin from Garabandal." THIS DAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY : OCTOBER 1, 1961: [Photo] Pastor Don Valentin "THE BLESSED VIRGIN TOLD ME ONE THING . . . MORE IMPORTANT THAN ALL YOU [DON VALENTIN] HAVE WRITTEN UNTIL NOW." First day and also first Sunday of the "month of the Holy Rosary" Conchita, at the end of a nocturnal ecstasy, told Don Valentin that she had just learned something from the Blessed Virgin which was far more important than anything that the pastor of Garabandal had been able to note until now. It dealt almost certainly with the future conversion of Protestants or Anglicans, according to what Conchita herself told Placido Ruiloba at that time: "Why do you criticize the Protestants, since 'soon' [better said 'without delay' ('pronto'), since that Spanish word does not in effect mean necessarily 'soon,' but rather the fact that an event will occur 'fast and unhindered'], we will be reunited (or "ONE" - comunes)". Our Lady would reveal gradually to the visionary the first element of a future "major Church event," that is, "the perfect Unity of all Christians at last being accomplished, the very "reunification of Churches" in the Unique Church of Christ! True she began revealing it, one might reasonably think, through the deceased Padre Luis, from August 15, 1961 on other people there. Kind of a prophetic preview and experience of the future worldwide AVISO? [The Warning]. As to Maximo Foerschler, a German engineer and a fervent Protestant, he went to San Sebastian de Garabandal for the first time on the 13th of October 1961. Later he was to return there many times. The Blessed Virgin said of him to the visionaries, that "he believes in God, but little in Me. He will believe . . .". Effectively, that is what was to happen. Very quickly convinced of the supernatural authenticity of Garabandal when he was still a Protestant, Mr. Foerschler would eventually write his testimony in a remarkable document addressed to Msgr. Wishing the greatest Garabandal apostolate , Joey Lomangino a Blessed 88th Birthday in Heaven today. I have so many favorite stories of Joey , which ran the gamut from spiritual to humorous, one story better than the next. I'll post a few. I remember all the wonderful times we shared, and how much this man taught me, inspired me and influenced my life. I am eternally grateful . Isn't it amazing how one blind man, with the help and faith in God and our Blessed Mother , changed so many lives ,around the world. Joeys dates and Feast days in his life. FIRST. October 5 . Born on the FEAST DAY OF ST. FAUSTINA (who saw the upcoming Warning ) SECOND. June 27. After his accident that left him blind,and in a coma on FEAST OF OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP ! THIRD. July 16. He woke up on THE FEAST OF OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL ! FOURTH, Dec. 8th Joey was married on , THE FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION, FIFTH, He died on June 18th the DOUBLE ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST APPEARANCE OF ST.MICHAEL AT GARABANDAL, AND THE LAST MESSAGE FROM MARY AT GARABANDAL. Hmmmm, I think I see a pattern here .
Joey’s greatest blessing. I was accompanying Joey on a flight down to Alabama to appear again on EWTN’s Mother Angelica LIVE show in 1996. While on the flight down, we always had wonderful personal conversations. This one day, we were discussing how we originally met, and what a great blessing it was for me, and I asked him “ What was your greatest blessing ? “ Now I expected one of several answers, ( his family, his Apostolate work, Confession with Padre Pio, Padre Pio restoring his sense of smell, meeting and being friends with Conchita, etc. ) His answer shocked me ! He said while he had many blessings , “ Being blind “. I said “ really, how’s that ? “ He went on ” because if I never had been blind, I never would have been saved”. It was his blindness that led to his spiritual sight and salvation . Padre Pio told Joey “I can’t give him sight for his eyes, but I can give him sight for his soul.” Can any of us ( who are sighted now ,as he once was sighted as a boy ) endure that suffering of having lost our eyesight, consider it a "blessing " ? Wow, how insightful.
DINNER WITH MOTHER ANGELICA - August 4, 1995 In 1995, I targeted Mother Angelica's EWTN live show to interview Joey & Marilynn. I called and wrote the President Bill Steltemier for 6 months straight relentlessly ! He finally caved in, probably figured it was easier to put Joey on one time and get rid on me for good, lol. Well, that show was the highest rated show they ever had ,and Joey & Mother Angelica had such good chemistry, we were asked back again, and again. That show caused the video to explode in the USA. Joey, Marilynn, and myself flew down to Alabama to Mother Angeilca’s EWTN . We are warmly greeted and shown around the tv station, and shown a house where we will be put up for the night. We were graciously invited to dinner at Mother Angelica’s house, before the show. When we arrived, there was Mother obviously, President Bill Steltemier, and a few top people at EWTN. You could tell instantly Joey & Mother Angelica “hit it off” and there was easy conversation and joking. As we all sat down to eat dinner, Mother asks Joey if he’d like to say grace. Joey gladly accepts saying “ yes Mother ! “. Joey then does one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. He opens by saying, “ Mother, I’d like to start with a 15 decade rosary ! “ There is dead silence ! Some jaws drop, and everyone is afraid to say or do anything. After a lengthy pause ( which as you can imagine felt like an eternity ) Joey says, “ Nah, I’m only kidding ! “ A loud burst of nervous laughter erupts at the table , and a collective sigh of relief from everyone, lol. It just goes to show you that you can maintain a spiritual life, without sacrificing the joys and laughter of life. After the show, Joey invited Mother Angelica to stay at his home anytime she was in New York, which she did. She promised to air the great Miracle on EWTN for the world to see. They remained great friends .
Here is the funny (and miraculous ) story Joey told me, of when he was buying his house. As most of you know, the Blessed Mother appeared at the 9 Pine trees in Garabandal and that’s where the future Miracle will be. He and his wife Marilyn went to buy a house on Long Island, NY , because he converted the one he was living in , into the NY Garabandal Center. The person who was showing them the house ( what became their home ) was describing the outside of the house to Joey. The Real Estate person mentioned the beautiful Pine trees that lined one side of the house. They asked ,"how many pine trees are there ? The real estate person said " 9 " ! …. " We'll take the house ! "
Joey meets Padre Pio ( restores sense of smell ) Story told by Joey Lomangino 1961- As Padre Pio came into the room we all knelt down to receive his blessing. Padre Pio was coming from the left hand side of the room across the front. All of a sudden I heard the moving of knees and all; I didn’t know what was going on. Padre Pio had his arms around me and started kissing me on the forehead. He said, “Joey, I am so happy to see you.” When my uncle told me it was Padre Pio embracing me, I was at a loss for words because I was almost the last one in the room and nobody knew I was going to be there, not even myself! But there was still more in store for Joey Lomangino on this fateful trip. After Mass on one of the following mornings, he again found himself in the large room where he had first encountered Padre Pio in 1961. He knelt with the other men to receive the Padre’s blessing as he passed by. Feb. 18, 1963- When I had my injury in 1947, I not only lost my eyes but I lost my sense of smell. So when I knelt down to receive Padre Pio’s blessing, and got the fragrance of roses that came from the wounds in his hands, I was startled and went against the wall with my arms up to protect myself; I didn’t know what it was. Padre Pio pulled down my hand and said in Italian, “Joey, don’t be afraid.” He then touched me on the bridge of my nose and my sense of smell was restored to me after being without it from the day of my accident in June 1947, which was 16 years.

TODAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY: OCTOBER 7,1962 FEAST OF OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY AT GARABANDAL The young visionaries, in ecstasy, cried out in unison: "Viva Santo Domingo que lo (i.e. el "Rosario") ha fundado!" ("Long live St. Dominic who 'founded' the Rosary") as they were reciting the rosary. This feast of our Lady of the Holy Rosary was highlighted by the magnificent ecstasy of Conchita who ran through the village, while singing the rosary for more than an hour. According to the visionary “ the rosary is a very important part of the Message of Our Lady at Garabandal”. * On that day as well, the Blessed Virgin kissed Loli’s Missal , page by page.
