I thought this thread was about "dark nights of the soul" when I saw it first, but it is literally about dark nights:D maybe we should start a thread about the dark nights of the soul too:)

In Ireland it has been unusually dull by even our standards for months. It is subjective but the light is just not the same (or maybe my eyesight is fading).

I have noticed this very much when I have painted this year even in the summer months how poor the natural light was by my perceived normal standards.

It was so bad at the end of July I booked a holiday I could hardly afford to Tenerife to get a bit of sun.

We have discussed in the past but never bad to discuss them again. Dark nights of the soul come in many forms. We read about many of the mystics experiencing horrifying dark nights of the soul where they are greatly tested. We too have these tests come and go and feel them greatly in our spiritual lives and battles. There are times when my soul and passion is on fire for the Lord and in almost a moments notice it all changes and I feel in a great funk. I have had many bad ones that lasted almost 2 months and in private, called out to many of my wonderful friends on this forum for help. And help they did and always seem to do. That is where we are family who can really help one another if asked.

Feel free Sanctus as Padraig is very knowledgeable as he went through a long spell of it himself. He helped me through a tough time when my poor old senses were getting purified and I thought I was going nuts! I cannot say it was an enjoyable experience, it is rather difficult to explain in words. The saints are as tough as old boots going through the purification required to become a saint. They all have my admiration!!

I can relate to your experience Garabandal, having gone through numerous trials and tests along the way aswell. I think they make us more compassionate and grateful and closer to God having gone through them.

the link below is where it was discussed in great detail. I remember at the time I wanted to participate but I barely kept up reading because I was going through such a hard time and my cross was very heavy. But it was by this thread that I realized what was happening to me...a dark night, probably of the sences, but not soul. I had never heard of either before!!

As we die with Christ so we shall live with Christ.

    Romans 6:8

Dead to Sin, Alive to God
7for he who has died is freed from sin. 8Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.…

I watched a documentary on how the earth shifted after the Japan earthquake

The massive earthquake that struck northeast Japan Friday (March 11) has shortened the length Earth's day by a fraction and shifted how the planet's mass is distributed.
